Over 240 people walked with us, over two Sundays, retracing the sites referenced in Rizal's novels including some relevant to Andres Bonifacio and Antonio Luna. A report by Jerome Gomez of Spot.ph will hopefully generate enough interest to nudge me to do this again sometime.

My Inquirer today plots out the sites in Rizal's novels that you will be surprised to learn are actually outside Intramuros. Rizal's Manila was the suburbs: Binondo, San Nicolas, Santa Cruz, and Quiapo. Use the map and my column and follow Ibarra in the opening of the Noli: the yellow route from Kapitan Tiago's house he did on foot, the red route to the Fonda de Lala was traversed in a horse-drawn taxi.

We must look beyond the debated details of the outbreak of the Philippine-American War to see the bigger picture. Rather than focusing on where exactly the first shot was fired, let's look into what was the effect of that shot. Fly a drone and see the forest instead of the trees.

Last weekend was tiring but fulfilling. Saturday began with a lecture on the Philippine-American War at Rockwell Cinemas for the Lopez Museum and Library [Top}, then graduate class on Literature and Historiography for DLSU Literature Department.
Sunday had walking tours of Rizal's Manila hosted by Old Manila Walks in the morning [Middle] and afternoon [Bottom]. That's reaching out to over 200 readers face to face in one weekend not to mention the thousands wh...

This is a corner of Photo-oleo exhibit at the National Museum where you can meet my mother face-to-face, not once but twice. The one on the left is the one that has gone viral.
It seems the display has been rearranged since this photo was taken in 2021 as my mother's photo-oleos are now side by side.
My Inquirer column today narrates the stories behind the two images:

ANTONIO LUNA (1866-1899) had Ilocano ancestry but he was born in Binondo. Impressions, a collection of his essays, was published in Madrid in 1891 under his pseudonym Taga-ilog, the root of the word "Tagalog." While he is best remembered as a general of the Philippine American War, it is not well-known that he was a man of science, trained at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, and was one of the best swordsmen and guitar players of his generation.
