Last night we rented The Vampire's Assistant, and really enjoyed it. It made me want to go find the books.

Our internet is working now, but Verizon called and said their test of the line shows something wrong, so they're sending a technician out. He'll arrive sometime between 8 and 5. This is why we got rid of the cable. That's fine, Verizon, I have to go to the grocery store and the pharmacy, but I'll just sit here waiting on your convenience. Maybe this time a miracle will happen and you'll fix the thing that's caused our intermittent connection problems for well over a year.

Stephen Hawking at A&M
I've been offline most of the time since Sunday, when our internet connection died. We've had an intermittent problem for about the past year, mostly due to the lines in this area being old and crappy. The Verizon tech came yesterday, when it took him fifteen minutes to figure out the problem was our modem, and more than an hour on the phone with Verizon Online trying to order a new modem. It hasn't arrived yet, so as of now, I still have only intermittent access on a neighbor's unsecured ...

We've had real Spring weather here lately, and I'd really love to go to the Antique Rose Emporium this weekend to walk through the gardens, but on this weekend, so does everybody else in the state. Maybe next week. Tonight we're treating ourselves to Sherlock Holmes on DVD.
And Monday, we're going to see Stephen Hawking speak on campus. This will actually be the second time we've seen him give a presentation here.

Lulu Sale
I got an email this morning from Lulu.com that they are having a 10% off sale. Use coupon code APRILFOOLS at checkout and receive 10% off your Lulu order. Maximum savings: $25.00.
(Hopefully it's not a joke. Because that would be really stupid.)
Anyway, if you want to take advantage of it, my Lulu reprints of The Element of Fire and City of Bones are here.
You could also check out Charles Saunders' fabulous sword and sorcery fantasies here. He has Dossouye and two new Imaro books available.

Congrats to

Last week, I watched a documentary called Eleven Minutes, about Jay McCarroll, the first winner of Project Runway, putting on his first fashion collection. The title comes from working for seven months to do something that basically lasts eleven minutes. It's funny and a little sad, and a good example of working in a creative field that is also an extremely brutal and cutthroat business. He had to refuse the $100,000 prize ...

complete post of First Novel Survey Results In February of 2010, I began collecting information from professionally published novelists. My goal was to learn how writers broke in and made that first big novel deal, and to use actual data to confirm or bust some of the myths about making it as a novelist.
