The weather was unexpectedly cool this weekend (cloudy and in the low 80s as opposed to the low 90s), so it was great for going out and doing stuff. A friend came in from out of town and we watched Sherlock Holmes on DVD, since she had never seen it. (It's my fourth time to see it and it's still awesome.) On Saturday morning we went up to campus so she could see the One Hundred Years Hence: SF and Fantasy at Texas A&M University exhibit.

So I could show her this:

Because that's never going...

Hey, thank you to [info:] lwdagreat and anonymous for the milk and cookie virtual gifts on my profile!

I went to the police station this morning to get a copy of the police report from my accident (Unit #1 failed to control its speed and struck Unit #2 in the rear bumper with enough force to cause Unit #2 to strike Unit #3, Unit #3 then struck Unit #4, Unit #4 then struck Unit #5. I was Unit #4.) to tie things up with the insurance company. The police station has a duck pond next to it, and when I w...

Got the car back, which is a big relief.

* Hair For Oil Spills Something I did not know and you probably didn't either: human hair and shed animal fur can be used to clean up oil spills, and this site tells how to collect it and where to send it. Quick, start brushing your cats! Seriously, the Gulf needs this now.

* Do the Write Thing For Nashville This is a writing-related auction for flood relief for the Nashville area. From the descriptions, critiques from editors and agents will be up for...

My car is finally getting repaired after the accident last month, and this is the third day it's been in the body shop. Yes, I am stir-crazy, why do you ask?

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Most of the fun stuff in Austin was held this past weekend, it looks like. It sucks when holidays requiring outdoor cooking are on weekdays.

I also missed the Austin Zombie Walk, which was May 1. Here's a link to a video on Facebook, hopefully this works.

Couple of links:

Storm fronts coming through on Friday and Saturday made my sinuses feel all explody. I got some recommendations for the neti pot on Facebook, and may end up trying that. It made me remember how my mother always hauled out the humidifier whenever I got sick (we lived up in Fort Worth, where it's a lot dryer during the winter). The humidifier she had was probably from the 50s and looked like an old Doctor Who prop and made a bizarre series of noises. One time when I had strep throat, my dog...

Since about the time Spike died, our cat Bella became the-cat-who-lives-upstairs and refuses to come downstairs for any reason. We tried carrying her down there, feeding her down there, moving the litterbox down there (that really, really didn't work). It got worse when we got Tasha, who was kind of an angry kitten and immediately started to push Bella around, and took the opportunity to seize control of the downstairs. (Except for Harry. Harry's territory has no bounds. But he doesn't ...

Last night turned out to be very strange. At around 2:30 am, I was woken up by a pounding noise. Our bedroom is on the second story and our house is in a cul-de-sac, so the acoustics are odd. Sounds that are across the street will sound like they're close enough to be in our yard, and so on. But we had two windows open, one at the front of the room, looking down on our front yard, and one in the master bathroom, facing the side yard and our neighbors' house. But this was definitely pound...
