Thanks very much to everybody for their comments on my posts about Harry. :) It really did make me feel better.

I feel kind of sick today (probably allergy-related), so I suspect I won't get much done.

Progress on the third The Cloud Roads book, which still needs a title:

32337 / 120000 words. 27% done!

I put an ETA on the previous post, but I wanted to talk about it a little more. We had to have Harry put to sleep. The bad spot we thought was a tooth abscess was actually a tumor. He must have had it for a while, as it had gone up all through his jaw, though he didn't show any sign of it. He ate yesterday, and was bugging me to feed him this morning before I took him to the vet. It was pretty impossible to remove, and the kidney disease, arthritis, his age (19 years and ten months) made ...

ETA: Well, it turned out not to be a tooth abscess, it was a tumor. We had to have Harry put to sleep. He was 19 years and ten months old.

My weekend with cats: in short, Harry had to go to the vet with a tooth abscess and Tasha got out of the house for a while. On Saturday we noticed that one side of Harry's mouth was swollen. I got him to open his mouth long enough to see yeah, it didn't look good on that side, but this was after the vet was closed for the day. I could have taken him to t...

Brief update on my life: Got the car back, which is a big relief. Still cranking away on the new book. It's really hot here.

This is pretty awesome: Rare Star Wars Photos production shots, rare stills, unused publicity photos, goofing around on the set photos. It's a whole new glimpse into the world that was so important to my childhood.

Thanks to everyone who filled out the poll yesterday. B was a clear winner, but I still kind of like D better. We'll see. It's hard for me to look at and pick out pictures of myself, because in my head I look pretty much like Nanny McPhee, but without the Emma Thompson part.

I took the Prius in this morning to get its inspection and oil change and everything, so I'm driving the elderly Ford F150 truck we inherited from [info:] morfin 's father years and years ago. I feel like I need a ladder to get...

Thought I'd start posting a word count meter every so often. The one below is for the third book in The Cloud Roads series.

The books aren't really a trilogy -- they're set in the same world, same characters, and The Serpent Sea is a sequel to The Cloud Roads, but I think each one stands on its own pretty well. (No cliffhanger endings.)

27379 / 120000 words. 23% done!

Well, no tropical storm, no rain of any kind. And it's really hot and dry here. We did go see the Sorcerer's Apprentice Saturday and enjoyed it a bunch. Very funny, very inventive magic, great sorcery battles.

Got new author photos taken yesterday, yay! We'll see how they all turn out and then pick which one to use.

It's look like we're expecting Tropical Storm Bonnie on or about Monday. We could use the rain; I just hope it doesn't rain oil.

I'm hoping to meet up with a friend who's going to be in town Sunday night and get a new author photo taken. Wish me luck! I'm really bad at getting pictures taken, since for some reason I freeze up when the camera comes out. The only time I'm good at getting pictures taken is at Disney with Mickey (the people in those outfits are really good at making you smile ...

I keep wanting to thank everybody individually for all the wonderful comments, but I'm afraid my hands will fall off. (My tendinitis/hand pain issues are a lot better than they used to be a couple of years ago, but I try not to push it.) Anyway, thanks again to everybody. :)

A Star Shall Fall by Marie Brennan. This will be out next month, but I got to read an Arc of it and really enjoyed it. It's set in 1759 London, where the Onyx Court, a fairy court hidden b...
