Cat-tain’s Log: Episode 008

Cat-tain

There’s a story behind Malley’s fascination with plumbing. We noticed early on that he would open cabinets to crawl underneath and get up against the pipes. If you turned on the water, he would listen and could follow the sound along in the walls. He also understood there was liquid in toilets and that it, too, traveled in the walls.

When we first moved into the house we’re in now, we had to replace the refrigerator and chose to do so with one that had a water and ice maker. The first time my hu...

The State of the Union

Allowables by Nikki Giovanni

Allowables by Nikki Giovanni

Look at those last lines in this poem by Nikki Giovanni.

I don’t think / I’m allowed / to kill something / because I am / frightened.”

Powerful.

I’ve started, stopped, erased, rewritten, and pondered on this post many times over the last week, including at 3 AM when images painted my dreams red. At least for me, they were only dreams—something I could wake up from with ease—but for so many in this country, violence and racism is a part of life that must be faced dai...

Cat-tain’s Log: Episode 007

Cat-tain

There is a fine balance between Riley and Malley’s relationship. As brothers, they are very loving towards each other, but their love always results in bath-time turning into a good-natured battle. It almost resembles the squirmy toddler trying to escape their parent’s grasp when the parent is trying to wipe away some evidence of a snack. Malley will bathe Riley, who sits still for ten minutes or so before he wiggles and squirms away. Then Riley attacks Malley, holding him down while he furiousl...

Cat-tain’s Log: Episode 003

Cat-tain's Log Episode 003

If youre a cat owner, you know that cats carry an air of superiority around with them. After all, they were worshiped by many cultures, including the Egyptians. Many religious mythologies point to cats playing a role in both the gods and humans lives, so I guess theyve earned the right to be smug.

However smug they might be, theres always time to be goofy, as Riley has long demonstrated for us.

Cat-tain’s Log: Episode 002

Cat-tain's Log Episode 002

Riley never ceases to amaze me with his ability to look smug. Especially when Ive said something stupid.

If Im afraid of something, hes a mighty hunter who will swoop in and save the day, but cthulhu forbid I say something stupid or silly. Then I get this expression. I feel like a child being scolded by a parent.

Cat-tain’s Log

Ive been playing with the idea of creating a webcomic for a while, but one holdback I had was the amount of time it takes to draw one. I love doing art, dont get me wrong, but drawing and inking take time.

In a class Im in for creatives looking for new ways to connect to readers/listeners, I heard about an author who paired his landscaping photography with one line poems. As I love photography, especially taking pictures of my cats, I thought on this topic for a few weeks until the opening...
