Cat-tain’s Log: Episode 035

Cat-tainAll Work & No Play Makes One a Dull Person

All three of our boys have me well trained, which is to say that when I’m working, they know that if they really want attention, all it takes is one bellyflop or upside-down head turn and work is pushed aside for some scritches or snuggles. I’m not the only writer this happens to. One only has to crawl through authors’ Twitter accounts to see posts about their kitties laying across the keyboard and distracting them from whatever work-in-progress should ...

Cat-tain’s Log: Episode 034

Cat-tain

All three of our cats love bags. It doesn’t matter if they’re paper or cloth. Honestly, they’d play with plastic bags too, but they tend to eat those so they don’t get to play with them. Do your cats enjoy bags? I know most cats love boxes but bags are a special acquirement.

The...

Cat-tain’s Log: Episode 033

Cat-tainSounds of Night

In the same way that a new parent is attuned to every sound their new child makes, pet parents are the same. It can be three in the morning when that familiar hurking noise reaches our sleep-addled minds, and we’re up, enzyme and towel in hand to clean up the cat puke. Hopefully before we step in it!

Malley has certain yowls he uses to differentiate between looking for us and announcing he took a good poop. Riley alternates between his baby-mimicking “I’m hungry!” cry, bird chirp...

Cat-Tain’s Log: Episode 032

Cat-tainIt’s a Gas!

Riley is the weirdest cat we’ve ever had. All of our kitties sleep on the bed and in the winter, all three burrow under the covers with us, but Riley is different. Riley likes gas. He likes flatulence.

Malley, if he farts, will startle himself and run away from the smell. DiNozzo will just give you this proud look as if he’s given you a gift. But Riley? Riley loves the smell of farts, especially during the middle of the night. Everyone farts at night. Because of this, Riley’s favorit...

Cat-tain’s Log: Episode 030

Cat-tainDr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog.

Look at these people – amazing how sheep’ll

Show up for the slaughter

No one condemning you – lined up like lemmings

You led to the water

Why can’t they see what I see?  Why can’t they hear the lies?

Maybe the fee’s too pricey for them to realize

Your disguise is slipping

I think you’re slipping…

Unlike Dr. Horrible, Riley really shouldn’t worry. He’s firmly in control of this household...

Cat-tain’s Log: Episode 029

Cat-tainNOT YET

No one in my family has caught Covid-19…yet. I hope it remains that way, but it’s unlikely. I’ve had a dozen or so friends get it. All of them are still recovering.

I worry when I see the number of cases shoot up while states decide to send kids back to school. As a former teacher and one who’s at high risk, I can’t imagine having to make the kids of choices my former colleagues are currently making. Many have filled out their wills. Some of them have outright quit. It’s not safe for the...
