Rapid Bible Read Through

We had a guest speaker at church on January 1, 2017 who told me to do a rapid Bible read through. Actually, he just suggested it, and I decided to do it.

Keith Ferrin is the founder of That You May Know Ministries. He is a writer and speaker. And he has internalized the Bible. I always enjoy hearing him recite a book of the Bible from memory. It is like a show with the way he gives emotions to the voices. That might sound sacrilegious to some, but it is not. I...

Stupid Internet

The internet is stupid. Rather, getting to the internet is stupid. Or painful.

We have been wrestling with the internet for quite a while now. It seems that sometimes we get great internet and sometimes we do not. Sometimes we can stream on several devices. Sometimes we cannot even get one device to play a YouTube video. Sometimes we can surf the interweb and peek in on what other people are doing on Facebook. Sometimes we cannot even get to any social media site at all.

It is frustrating to...

#GreatBandNames [1]

I was on Twitter the other day and saw a great hashtag that I had to comment on. #GreatBandNames

Part of the reason I was looking at trending hashtags was because of a book called Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook by Gary Vaynerchuk. It is a book about using social media to get people to notice your company and get them to a place where they can buy what you are selling. It is a great book that got me...

Not a #TwitterBug

I know that in this day and age of social media, writers and other content providers need to be self-promoters, but I cannot find it in me to be a #TwitterBug. At least not yet.

I do not know if a TwitterBug is even a real thing, but you would surely know one if you saw one. Those people who are constantly typing stuff on their phones. Sometimes, even while you are talking to them. In person. (They wi...

Simple Christmas Pleasures

There was an old Van Camp’s pork and beans commercial that sang, “Simple pleasures are the best.” The corny old song was true and the product could lead to all sorts of great blog posts about Farts in Space or such nonsense, but it also lends itself to great introspection. Or at least a little blog post about a simple Christmas gift.

So what Christmas gift do you get for the woman who has everything? I mulled it over in my brain for many months this year and came up with nothing. My wife, Th...

Stay, Pray, Press Play

Christmas is on Sunday this year and our church congregation, Cascade Community Church, is doing something different. Cascade is not having a church service on Christmas day. I repeat, Cascade Community Church is not having a church service on Christmas day in 2016.

It seems strange not having a church service on any Sunday let alone on one of the holiest days of the year. But it makes sense. Instead of having everybody stop their Christmas morning ri...

Feeling Irrelevant

I am feeling irrelevant today.

I know I should not look at my numbers too much, but my Facebook reach is getting lower and lower each blog. It is not a true measure of how many people are reading my stuff, but I think it is indicative. I am just not as funny or relevant anymore. Not that I ever was, mind you. It is just that the numbers are confirming it.

I suppose the life of a blogger is limited anywa...

One of Those Days

Today is one of those days. You know, the ones that for some reason or another just start out in a way that you know things are not going to go your way.

Truth be told, I never have one of those days. Even today, I know I am going to have a great day. It is, after all, a choice. You make your day what you want it to be. (Sorry if that made any of you gag, but it is truly what I know to be true.) But writing is different. Sure, there is no such thing as writer’s block, but there is such a thi...

Mutual Admiration Society [1]

Peggy Filer is a friend and co-worker who said I should start my own mutual admiration society. Actually, she just said she was texting her siblings, nieces, nephews, and others just to tell them that she was grateful for them. And she said to try it to see if the results were as entertaining as hers were. Or something like that.

I have known Peggy for twenty-something years. She teaches health and teaches all the freshmen about being safe and healthy. She tells...
