A-Z Musicals: Q

I have to say, I'm drawing a blank on this one. The trusty internet did list two Q musicals, neither of which I've heard of, so let's learn about them!

Quilters is about early American pioneer women, and I guess it had a brief run on Broadway in 1984. It was also nominated for several Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical (aren't all the best things based on books?), and Best Original Score, but from what I can see, it didn't win any of the categories.
Here is the plot summ...

A-Z Musicals: P

I saw this one on Broadway in New York and fell instantly in love with the story and especially, what else, the music.

The coolest thing was that, before the show started I went up to the pit while the musicians were warming up. I kept trying to wave to the clarinetists, but they were busy. One of the violinsts saw me, though, and I asked him to tap the clarinetist for me.
The clarinetist was so nice! I waved and told him I played the clarinet too...and he invited me to come backstage after the...

A-Z Musicals: O

This one is just plain fun, all around, although I have to say, one of the world's cheesiest lines EVER WRITTEN is in this movie, when Laurie finally admits she loves Curly and agrees to marry him:
"Why, I'll marry you, Curly. If you want me to!"
Sorry--I think it's SO CHEESY!!! Still, they can sing, "People Will Say We're In Love" and I'll forgive the cheese-factor. ;)
And I would really love to see Hugh Jackman play the part of Curly...

NEWSIES!!!

This is another one I'd *love* to see on Broadway. But I'm good watching Christian Bale singing and dancing until then. ;)

A-Z Musicals: M

M!!!!
Way too many awesome ones to just list one, so here we go!
First off--

Oh my goodness, where do I begin? I've loved this movie since I was a kid. Soooooo many important, vital messages are taught in this movie while it's still fun and lighthearted. Sugar helping medicine go down, changing bread and water into tea and cakes with just a shift in your attitude and saying a silly word? LOVE IT. Especially Mr. Banks learning to love his family and put them first....aaah. I can't watch it...

A-Z Musicals: L

There are SO MANY movies I had no idea had been turned into L musicals. Like Lord of the Rings? Little Women? Legally Blonde? Crazy awesome.
At first I thought about featuring Les Miserables. I really like the music from Les Mis, but I can't watch it--especially the latest version with Hugh Jackman. While it was brilliantly done, the Anne Hathaway prostitute stuff is too real for me!
So I'm going to go with The Lion King, which I actually got to see on Broadway, and I have to say it was fabulou...

A-Z Musicals: K

Today's pick is...

I will admit--this is not a huge favorite of mine, just because it's really sad to watch! I love Anna's positivity and the reactions to her dress, lol, and especially the entrance of the Siamese children, but my heart breaks for Tuptim (sp?) every time! It's definitely worth watching, though. I love the friendship/almost feelings she eventually develops with/for the king.

A-Z Musicals: J

My favorite part of this musical is the variety of styles of music. There's jazz, country, blues, ragtime, 1960's disco, ELVIS-style rock n' roll...soooo fun!

This one I've had the chance to play in the pit for as well, which included the soprano sax, the only time I've ever played it!
Any J musicals?

A-Z Musicals: I

I couldn't find an "I" musical I've seen for today's post! So I'll go with one I'm DYING to see...

Have any of you seen this yet? What did you think?

A-Z Musicals: H

Hands down, H is:

I can't tell you how many times I watched this over and over because I COULDN'T GET ENOUGH of this music!!! Even now when I'm having a bummer day I'll turn it on and jam out.
And also, I must mention...

Again, for the music (why else do we watch these, lol?), and I especially love Cornelius and Barnaby's quest to go to New York, spend all their money, and not come home until they each kiss a girl. Le sigh.
