Writing Tips and Tricks: How To Think Like a Reader, Not an Author

When I first started writing, I had a note card propped up against my keyboard that said, "Kill the author." It was a reference to something I'd heard at a conference about how sometimes as writers, we get in our own ways when trying to craft a story.
But I am an author. How am I supposed to step away from my story and see it the way a reader sees it?

Behind the Scenes: My Writing Schedule

I am not an organized person. Clutter follows me like a little lost puppy, and though I try, I have always struggled to keep piles from conglomerating on surfaces. I often lose things as a result or forget I already set something aside and end up doing it twice!

Writing Tips and Tricks: Strong Verbs

As a homeschool family. we're part of a private school that meets weekly. The moms all teach the classes, and it's a screaming awesome opportunity for all of us. I get to chat and socialize and learn from the other moms; my kids get to be around their peers and take classes from someone other than me; we all build each other and it's a stellar environment!
In that group, I teach the eight to ten year olds' writing class. These young kids are learning things I didn't learn until I got into...

Who I Am

Happy 2020! This year, one of the goals I've set is to be more involved in my social media posts. I'm going to pick up blogging again, as well as posting more frequently in general.
So this post is my kick-off! I want to remind you who I am!

My name is Cortney Pearson. I'm a USA Today bestselling author of young adult fantasy. I have nine books published, with about twenty more stored away in my head.
I homeschool my four littles--though my oldest is twelve and not so little anymore!...
