FASHION STYLE: I’m getting Kaftan ready for Summer!
My pursuit of kaftans is still on from when I started at the beginning of the year, and even though we’re a very freezing cold August, I still have pieces to buy, especially Camilla’s, but more on that in future weeks.
Here are three ankle length kaftans I found in the first few months of 2015. I have so many now it’s ridiculous. As you can see I love going for tropical themes, big birds, palm tress, and flamingos are coming, believe me.
I also love big, bright, bold colours and anything that’s on the blue and pink side of things. I need to stick to colours that are already in my wardrobe that I can mix and match with other pieces, and definitely need to buy kaftans that I have jewellery, shoes, bags, hats etc to match to. And that blog post is definitely coming as well.
Mind you, even though I have been on this fetish for most of the year, I’m not even sure I’ll be wearing them around the house, or even out. With kaftans, you need to be careful how you wash and dry them. No spinning, no sun, hand wash in cold water, very carefully drain the water out of it and then drip dry in the bathroom or laundry. I had one kaftan early this year that I spun in a twin tub (washer one side, spinner the other) and it shrunk. I don’t know if I’m supposed to iron it out or not, but I’m very disappointed in it. So I am warned for this summer.
Since the other half of the world is still in summer mode, have you guys been wearing kaftans? For the rest of us Aussies, have you guys bought any or thinking of buying any for this summer holidays?

HEALTH & BEAUTY STYLE: Welcome to the family, Paco Rabanne’s Black XS
I’ve gone through quite a few perfumes in the last few years as I don’t like revisiting a scent twice due to the changes in batches and my skin. So the next perfume to be welcomed into the family is Paco Rabanne’s Black XS for women.
I found it stronger and better than the men’s versions, which is usually the other way around, so the strength really pulled me in.
I love spicy and fruity so there are very few scents in my local chemists to pick from, and I don’t want to keep making celebrities rich, so I try to go for other people and good looking bottles.
If I’m going to collect bottles, better make them good looking ones.
What’s the best scent you guys have used, or use, and the best bottle?

The RSL Art Union has another draw open for ticket sales. This time it’s a choice, either a Gold Coast home PLUS $450,000 in gold OR a Sunshine Coast apartment they had in a draw from last year. With that one, it was 1.5 million or the SC apartment, clearly the winner picked the money.
Head to the RSL Art Union for your tickets today.

HEALTH & BEAUTY STYLE: It’s been five years since I started seeing my chiropractor
Five years ago I had finally had enough of the pain racking my body and wanted to do something about it. It had been a long build-up, I’ve had back pain and a curved spine since I was 18, had lower back pain from then. In 2004/05 I started experiencing sharp pain on my right side back, but it only happened when I bent over.
The pain escalated until it was crippling, and I was physically crippled if I bent over even for a few moments, and on top of that, the pain in my right front side had become unbearable. This pain I had always associated with my menstrual cycle, but after fluctuating in severity it had disappeared in 2008, only to re-emerge in 2009 resulting in me having a laparoscopy to find out if something was wrong.
It wasn’t, but that didn’t stop either pain. In July of 2010 a chiropractor set up shop in my local shopping centre which I live right behind, and a few weeks later I was a new patient.
After having x-rays done I was shown where my spine was and shown where it should be. I was so out of alignment it was ridiculous. My head was forward and bent left, so I had what’s known as a dowager’s hump. My back killed me from having a bend in it for 18 years and being told it was scoliosis. My lower back could barely help me stand for ten minutes before I needed to sit down. I had painful bones and sore skin, that if you grabbed me, even lightly, would hurt. I felt bent, buckled, squashed, and it was all because I was just that. Bent, buckled and squashed.
After one year my back was straight once again and the middle back pain had subsided. My neck and lower back no longer had freezing spots caused by sciatica. My migraines had dulled to a loud roar and I could stand longer than ten minutes without needing to sit down or feeling exhausted.
After five years, I’ve gone through painful hell. As one issue is dealt with it stirs up another, and when that’s fixed another arises. It’s like lining up dominoes and then knocking the first down, each one falls into the other until they are all done. That is what is happening with me.
After five years my back is still straight, I don’t have the back pain I used to have except occasionally, the left hip pain is pretty much gone, the migraines I still have. Do I still suffer sciatica, absolutely, but it’s not what it used to be and I still don’t sit cross-legged or bend over the way I used to because she told me not to.
After five years the only parts of my spine still stuffed are the very top and the very bottom. My fifth lumbar shifts against the sacrum and everything goes out of alignment and causes aches and pains. It sucks, but I can deal with it. I still get headaches, but unlike before when I used to suffer from all four versions of migraines, I only suffer from 1-2 versions, and they’re the same all the time, the pounding across the back of my head.
I also still suffer from my right front pain, an issue I bought up with her last time I went and after all this time even she was confused as to why it’s just the one side and what it could be related to in my back.
I thank God for my chiro, and detest critics of chiropracty, I also detest people who barely know me, barely know the breadth and width of my issues, yet tell me what I should do to stop my migraines.
My migraines were never caused by food, or the way I slept. They did seem to spring up when blinded by light, deafened by loud noises or after sitting in a hot stuffy room, but I also know they are the aftermath of the real issue. A head bent over the desk or computer.
We have a head the weight of a bowling ball!
For anyone making and creating, or writing which I also do, it is the same issue that anyone constantly looking down at their phone and tablet face. The weight of our head is more than a bowling ball and to put the strain on the neck causes the grief.
I will continue seeing my chiro, for how long I don’t know, but as she told me five years ago, “it took you 18 years to get like this it will take a while to fix”. Five years ago my mother had the same issue as me, but they were worse. I tried convincing her to become a patient but she flat out refused, and now, she’s a hundred times worse than she was. I don’ t want to be like that, so I will continue helping my back get better and hoping I can finally rid myself of these issues.

BUSINESS STYLE: Why I set up my businesses on Dropbox
Many years ago I set up the free 2gb Dropbox account, mainly for the style course I was doing as they shared folders amongst themselves, so I joined but didn’t use it for much else until recently when I had to start sharing folders with my book cover company as the files were too big to go through email.
Then last month, for some reason, I started coming across bloggers talking about their blog planners. I thought, sounds like a good idea with everything I run, so I started making a document to cover all the technical aspects of my websites, but more on that in another post when they’re done.
Then I got into online storage. I had been using Bitcasa, and have not yet deleted my accounts, but I found that when it was going it was wreaking havoc with the speed of my pcs, and i couldn’t sync my pcs together either.
So, I bit the bullet and upgraded my Dropbox account to the 1terrabyte monthly account for $12.99 AU a month. I may as well, right, since I sell online and have a tonne of pictures to save.
I also have an author business where there is a tonne of manuscripts to be saved as well as other pictures, files and documents.
I upgraded the account and started syncing both of my business computers up. It took about a week. I know, really slow, but each pc was syncing hundreds of megabytes and gigabytes worth of documents, videos, and pictures. I had both pcs on and syncing for about 18 hours a day.
Finally, they were done. Now each pc has a shared Dropbox on it where I can get into each one’s files regardless of which pc I’m on. I really don’t know why I didn’t do this years ago as I’ve been working on one pc at a time to keep the businesses separate. But when I needed something from the other I always got the second one going. No more. I’ve also synced my iPhone and iPad, just in case I need to get to the box on those.
It all came down to money. What I could afford to fork out every month for the sake of internet, domains, security and social media. But for safety’s sake and the safety of my business and backing up data that is constantly moving and changing (another reason I was only using flash and hard drives, but that’s ridiculously slow and horrible and I didn’t update everyday so I could have lost what I was currently doing which would have sucked absolute shit balls if I lost everything), I needed to do this, and I have a tonne of space left.
So if you have a need for an online storage facility I highly recommend getting a Dropbox Pro account. If my computers cark it, which it’s possible they will, then everything is there safe and sound for me to upload to a new pc.
Do you guys use Dropbox, or have considered it? Do you use another online company instead? Let me know.
