A Mongrel’s Curse

I’ve mentioned several times I’m in the writing group/class called Phoenix Prime. It’s a group dedicated to improving the quality of my stories. In both the actual writing and the stories. I’ve been slowly reading several of the other member’s books.

I wanted to give a quick review for one of them. A Mongrel’s Curse by Paul Middleton. It’s the first book in a series. It’s a unique take on many of the traditional takes on shifters, angels, fairies, etc. I enjoyed the fresh approach to the world and story. The main character, Mongrel, is a flawed man who does his best to help those he cares about. Paul created many believable characters in this story. My favorite Fidelma. She balanced the Mongrel perfectly. With the story centered around her and the curse, it was fun to see her interact with the Mongrel. While at times dark, the story still had the ending you hoped it would.

A Mongrel’s Curse is well worth reading. Check it out on Amazon.

My brother and I have been working on Mason. Recently, we realized it needed a significant change. We love the story and want it to be the best it can be.  The changes are slowing us down, and we still have several stories coming out soon.

In the meantime, I’ve been reading some of my fellow Phoenix Prime members stories. If you haven’t checked out my friend Paul Middleton before I hight recommend him, his Cursed Mongrel book is well worth reading.

Recent Releases

I haven’t been staying up to date on posting. I’ve been super busy writing. Also, my mentorship has been consuming a lot of my energy. I figured a little update on the stories I’m working on and what has been published.

So far this year I have released three short stories and helped with another. My venture into urban fantasy, The Shattered Viel was co-written with Sue Ronson. You can get that on Amazon. The follow up to Djinn Park is out,  The Butcher of Djinn Park. That is part of my Ardent Saga, superheroes. My most recent release, Philip, went out just yesterday. It’s part of my Cretun Chronicles.

Currently, I have several novels and short stories nearing completion and being ready for publication. The second book in the Cretun Chronicles is getting some massive changes, and I hope to have it available soon. The goal is the beginning of April. After that, I have another short story in the series.

I’ve been working on another YA series. The Elementalist Saga. The first few stories will be part of anthologies that include several other members of Pheonix Prime. The Prophecy and Scheme of the Wind are the first two. I’m working on the another.  The first story is almost ready. I’ll have more on that soon.

Here is my cover for the second Novel, Mason.

Logan Movie review

Yesterday, I went to see Logan. The last movie that Hugh Jackman is playing Wolverine. It’s a sad moment. I’ve loved him throughout the movies as he helped develop the character. Who in my youth had been my second favorite X-men in the comics and cartoons, Gambit was my favorite. Going in I had high hopes for Logan, and it delivered. It made me laugh, cry, and happy. The wave of emotions this movie put me through was amazing. The introduction of X-23, Laura, was done perfectly. She helped offset the rough nature of Logan. At times it was painful to see Wolverine as this old beat up version, same goes for Professor X. Laura provided a balance to that. Seeing this ruthless young girl kicking ass. The moment at the end between Logan and Laura was heart-wrenching. It really pulls at all the strings. This movie was so great that I will be seeing it again.

The Step Up Movies

In what has become a yearly tradition for me this time of year I have finished watching the Step Up series. This is the fourth year in a row I’ve watched the films. It is a guilty pleasure of mine. I love the series. From the first movie to the fifth one. Picking a favorite one is difficult. Following the few characters that appear in multiple films is fun. Moose is so much fun. The music and the dancing in each movie are great. Each film progressively tries to do that last out, and that makes for some epic dance scenes to end the films. If you like dance movies and haven’t seen these, you are missing out.

Phoenix Prime Mentorship

I’ve mentioned a few times I’ve been accepted into a mentorship. I figured I’d elaborate on it. So far it has been fun and challenging. It has tested me in so many ways that I hadn’t thought possible. I can’t wait to see what is next.

“Phoenix Prime is a Ph.D. level workshop that spans approximately four months. It uses applied industrial psychology to address components of writing, marketing, branding, business and contract issues, productivity, etc. that combine Creative Writing and business perspectives.

The participants will create a portfolio to showcase their work alongside students in doctoral programs at several major universities. The objective, in addition to expanding the professional growth of all the participants, is to study the impact of the independent author-publisher on the commercial fiction industry.”

TL;DR – if your friend is in this program, they will be planting roots in their office chair. Be kind. Bring snacks. They’ll come up for air sometime in April.

Busting my Butt with my mentorship

I’ve been working hard recently with my writing. The mentorship is busting my butt. Worth it. I’ve been learning a lot. Stuff will be released soon for your reading enjoyment. It’s some of my best yet. I can’t wait. In the meantime, I received my Legend of Korra poster today. Hung it up next to my writing desk. Have these on both sides as I write.

Numb3rs Review one of my all time favorites

Slowly rewatching one of my favorite TV shows of all time. Numb3rs is a fun show that is centered around two brothers, one a math genius and one an FBI agent. They work together to solve crime. Because you know nothing says crime fighter like a math genius. As odd as it sounds it works. Charlie and Don have such great chemistry. David Krumholtz and Rob Morrow play the leads and do it perfectly. The tension between them is turse at first, but over time they develop th

e two characters into well-oiled machines. The stories throughout the show are deep. Many taking a deep look at different aspect of our culture. It lasted a short six season. You can currently watch it on Amazon Prime. Don’t miss out if you haven’t seen it and enjoy crime dramas.
