Lost Vegas

The human keeps talking about some Lost Vegas. At first, I was confused. What is lost? I could help find it. Then he started to pack up a big box of clothes. The pieces started to fall together. I think he is going to search for this Lost Vegas without me. I need to find a way for him to take me along, or keep him here. For now, I’ll try to cover his clothes with my fur. He likes that.

A rough week

It’s been a rough week. Been struggling with a cold and then vomited. The human waited on me hand and paw. He let me rest and relax this week. I’m better now, but I can tell the human was worried.

I’m in a story.

The human informed me that a friend of his wrote a character named Luna. And it is a cat-like creature. This has made me giddy. I can’t wait to read this story. It is purrfect. When I do, I’ll be sure to let you all know about it.

Releases

It’s been a crazy week. We’ve released Breath of Disaster. Get it now on Amazon. And until the 15th An Absent Gale is on sale for .99. Don’t miss out. There isn’t much time left on that.

Also, my writing group has published a few more anthologies. First the Snapshots of Life, a release of our first journal. As well as Prime Peeks  I. I’m in both of those. And last but not least Hearts in the Sky.

Each and every one is worth a read. Check them out.

There will be more soon from both Phoenix Prime and Derek and me. Happy reading.

Snippet #2 for Breath of Disaster

Snippet #2 for Breath of Disaster

Alexi lounged in one of the gathering rooms that were spread out in the school. Next to him Vitaly and Zoya sat. Besides the first part of the holiday, the rest was uneventful. The day after the attack Alexi went to spend the remaining days with his family. His mother made sure she had the last three days off as well.

It was the longest that Alexi could remember spending time with her. He didn’t see much of his father since he had to work a few more hours to make up for the lost income of his mother taking the days off. Alexi wasn’t happy about that. He hoped one day to help ease the burden they had. It was better now, but still not great for them.

Back at school, the first day was back to the typical grind. It drained Alexi. Much like the first week did. Having time off made it difficult to get back into a flow. “I’m exhausted,” Alexi said.

Vitaly yawned. “Me too.”

“You two are so bad,” Zoya said. “We were off for one week, and you act like it was all summer.”

It felt like the whole summer to Alexi. Coming back was rough. He was slightly jealous of Zoya and her ability to get right back into it. “I know.”

Zoya glanced around the room. Her face held a worried look. “We didn’t get to talk about it before we left, but what happened in the woods?”

Alexi had hoped to avoid this topic. It wasn’t good for many reasons, most of all if they put two and two together and learned he could manipulate the Earth. It was his biggest fear. Alexi was sure they were already suspicious of it all. The last thing he wanted was for them to know and withdraw from him. Leaving him alone.

“I have no idea,” Alexi said. He hoped he sounded convincing.

“I’ll tell you what happened,” Vitaly said. “Alexi here fell behind and was attacked by a rabid beast. He got lucky it didn’t shred him to pieces.”

Cuddling with the human

The human was better this week in his training. So much so that I decided to reward him. I noticed one day that he was a little tired and taking a nap. For some reason, he likes it when I sleep on him or next to him and purr. So I did this for him. He cheered up. Note to self, cuddle with the human to make him happy. He is better in his duties and training when happy.

More Anthologies

This past week my writing group has started to release a few more anthologies. I’m in a few of them. All of them are worth reading. From the Imp Prince to the Goblin and the Grocer. The second CyberWar is one that Derek and I have two stories in. And don’t forget Phoenix Imagining.

Breath of Disaster snippet

A little snippet of Breath of Disaster, book two in the Elementalist.

Alexi turned to Vitaly and Zoya, they nodded. Dorosh led Alexi back down the steps to the side of the building. He peered around making sure they weren’t being watched. In the distance, Petrov stood with the headmaster greeting new students. As did Kutuzov.

“It’s happening faster than I expected,” Dorosh said.

Alexi looked at him dumbfounded. “What is?” he asked.

“The rise of False Wardens.”

Alexi didn’t like the sound of that. “What do you mean? False Wardens?”

That was a new idea to Alexi. Not that he had done much research into the Warden outside of the two books and dreams he had. But none of them mentioned anything about a False Warden. They talked about Nalda and her followers. Alexi hoped to learn more about them.

“Twice touched people who go insane. They hear the Prophecy and think they are the Warden.”

Alexi’s heart raced. Insanity was a constant fear he had ever since he learned of the possibility. He hated the thought that he might lose his mind. That some spirit touching him after a first one did would slowly lead to his death.

As if reading Alexi’s mind Dorosh patted him on the shoulder. “You aren’t going insane. Trust me. It happens fast. And quick. Most that go mad learn their second elements right away.”

“Okay,” Alexi said. He still wasn’t convinced.

“Have you figured it out yet?”

Alexi shook his head. “Nope.” He wanted to, but he feared it. Part of him thought that is what will make him crazy. Using the second element.

“In time. The Warden will need you.”

Alexi sighed. “I know.”

“Don’t worry. I will help you. I promise. But I had to deal with a twice touched this summer. He went crazy. Tried to kill lots of people. It wasn’t pretty.”

“Why didn’t I hear of it?”

“I did my best to keep it out of the papers. Some of it spread. The acceptance of the Warden is growing in the country. Many believe.”

That was good news. Alexi worried it wouldn’t be that way. That he’d have to be in hiding his whole life. In constant fear of being outed as a twice touched who can use two elements. Many already knew that he was twice touched. But not the other part.

With that they separated, Alexi went in search of his friends. Now both petrified and nervous about the coming year. This idea of false wardens going around attacking people thinking they were real wasn’t pleasant. Alexi hoped Dorosh would be able to handle the situation. They appear to be something well above his current abilities. Alexi hoped not to worry much about the Warden unit he finished school. It was clear now that wasn’t the case, he needed to start investigating it deeper and further.

Maybe it was time to listen to Vitaly and continued the formation of what they talked about after discovering the Prophecy. Perhaps it is time to the form the Green Iris.

The annoying human

The human has been a pain this week. Constantly picking me up and giving me hugs and kisses. Don’t get me wrong, I like the attention and all. But a kitty needs her me time. I’ll need to readjust the human’s training to fix this reoccurring issue. In the meantime, I think I’ll interrupt his writing.

Upcoming stories

In the coming month, I expect that both Mason and Breath of Disaster should be released. Both of these are second books in their series, The Cretun Chronicles for Mason, and the Elementalist for Breath of Disaster.

These stories are in the final stages of editing. I fully expect it to not be too much longer. I love both these stories, and they extend the series into fun and exciting places. If you haven’t already check out Aiden the first book in the Cretun Chronicles before Mason is released. The same goes for An Absent Gale the first book in the Elementalist. And all the short stories that I’m in with the Elementalist, Flight of the Phoenix, Prime Fantasy, Goblin and a Grocer, and Prime Fiction II. And don’t forget about Whirlwind of a Summer.

In the meantime, in the works, I have several anthologies in process. Both with my brother and another co-author. These will be in several Phoenix Prime collections. And I am in the process of writing the third story in both the Elementalist and the Cretun along with Emerge. I am also periodically working on a new series that follows my Shattered Veil short story.
