Read Everly Right Now! 😘

Defending Everly is LIVE!

You've waited what seems like forever, and you finally get to see how Ball digs himself out of the hole he made for himself by bungling his first meeting with Everly!

This story could be labeled an enemies-to-lovers romance, but honestly, that trope isn't my favorite. So...you KNOW that Ball figures his crap out very quickly and see how amazing Everly really is. Besides, they're kinda busy looking for Everly's missing sister to do too much sniping at each other (and wait until you meet Everly's grandparents! They're hysterical!)

Anyway, yes, this book is only on Amazon because it's being published by my Amazon-owned publisher. The good news about that is that the story (and the entire series!) is in Kindle Unlimited. The bad news is that my B&N, Kobo, GP, and Apple Books readers will have to go outside their normal reading app to get it. I know you all know this, but the Kindle app is free. And while I know it's annoying to have books on more than one app, at least THIS series would all be in one place.

Anyway, I hope you all will download this one and check it out. I love this story and Ball is quite amazing! :)

Happy reading and happy December!

The first chapter of Everly is here! 😘

I'M HOME! Australia was amazing and wonderful and exhausting! lol I hope you were able to see some of my pictures that I posted on Facebook and Instagram. I saw a ton of CUTE Australia animals (and none tried to kill me, bonus!)

BUT, for this week I want to share the first chapter from Defending Everly with you! You'll learn more about Elise, Everly's missing sister, and why Ball and Everly got off on the wrong foot. Hopefully it'll make you even more excited to read the entire book on Dec 3rd when it comes out!

I've missed being able to chat with everyone anytime I wanted while I was on vacation, and I'm happy to be home. Perhaps more importantly, Annie and Callie, my dogs, are super excited that their "sit on the couch with them" person is back!

For my American readers, if you're going to be traveling next week for Thanksgiving, please be safe and careful!

~Susan

PS: Don't miss the first chapter of Defending Everly here!

Happy November! <3

Happy November! I can't believe how fast the year has gone by!

What's up next for me? Well, I'm still cruising around Australia at the moment, but I'm looking forward to December when Defending Everly comes out. I KNOW you all have been waiting for the next book in my Mountain Mercenaries series with bated breath.

Enemies-to-lovers generally isn't my favorite trope, and I wouldn't exactly categorize this book that way. However, Ball and Everly definitely didn't get off on the right foot for sure. But it doesn't take long for Ball to realize that he'd been a jerk and Everly is the kind of woman who can forgive fairly easily...especially when she's more concerned about finding her missing sister than holding a grudge.

I'm sharing with you guys the first teaser graphic from Defending Everly, and I hope you're as excited to read this one as I am to share it with you!

Remember that words have power...use yours carefully!

Penelope is here!

It's LIVE!

Shelter for Penelope is finally live! It's available on ALL the platforms, and in audio as well!

I know many of you are sad to know this is the last book in the Badge of Honor series, and I am too. I love these characters. I love portraying both law enforcement and firefighters in the best light possible. Truth is, these jobs are hard. especially in today's world of entitlement. The next time you see a FF, or police officer, tell them thank you.

I sincerely hope you enjoy Penelope and Moose's story. I'm happy to have finally given her a happy ever after because out of all my characters...she truly deserves it. (And if you want to read about her experience when she was kidnapped in Turkey, and haven't already, you can pick up Protecting the Future. It's where her story truly starts).

Enjoy!

Listen to Penelope Now!

Shelter for Penelope AUDIO is live! That's right, you can listen to Shelter for Penelope now!

I know, I know, all you e-book readers have to wait another week, BUT to help you with that wait, I'm sharing the first chapter from the book on my website today. So you can get your fix and be ready to download the entire book next week.

By the time you read this, I'll be in Australia, hanging with my author friends TL Swan, and Fiona Cole. Then later this week Mr Stoker and I are getting on a ship to sail all the way around the continent! I'll still be around, we've got Internet access, but I'll be a day ahead of you...biting my fingernails waiting to hear what you all think of Moose and Pen's story!

Stay safe out there. And be kind!

~Susan

PS: Every year I offer to send my readers a holiday card. It's completely optional, but if you're interested in getting a super cheesy "Happy Holiday" card from the Stoker family, the sign up form is HERE.

Read it and weep!

It's time for your first sneak peek from Shelter for Penelope! Below is a short excerpt from the book. It's the first time Moose sees Penelope (and Smokey!) after she returns after being away. Moose has loved her forever, but isn't sure how to help her.

I think many of us have felt this way about a loved one. We want to help them with whatever is bothering them (sickness, addiction, mental health, whatever), but am not sure how.

I'm super excited for everyone to read this one. I hope I did both Penelope and Moose justice, but also everyone else in the Badge of Honor family.

The wait's not long now!
~Susan

*****************
Shelter for Penelope Sneak Peek
Penelope’s gaze met his, and Moose sighed in relief at what he saw there.

She still had demons, that was easy to see, but she seemed more settled than when he’d last seen her. Less frantic. Less haunted. Her impromptu trip had ripped his heart out of his chest, but he couldn’t deny it seemed to have done her good.

He wanted to run to her. To take her in his arms and order her never to leave him again, but his feet felt as if they were glued to the boards beneath them. Maybe she regretted coming back. Maybe she’d just stopped by his house to tell him she needed more time and space.

That she couldn’t ever love him…

Before either of them could say anything, Smokey had exited the car and seen him. He made a noise somewhere between a bray and a yell and came barreling toward Moose as fast as his little legs could carry him.

Moose heard Penelope laugh before he knelt to catch Smokey as he ran full tilt into him. Moose fell back on his butt and laughed as the miniature donkey did his best to let him know exactly how much he’d been missed. Smokey brayed and rubbed his head all over Moose’s chest in excitement. It was all he could do to stay upright under the exuberant donkey’s affection.

“It looks like he missed you,” Penelope said softly.

As thrilled as he was that Smokey hadn’t forgotten about him, Moose was more eager to greet the animal’s mistress than continue to get slobbered on by the beast. Extricating himself from the donkey’s overly enthusiastic greeting, Moose climbed off the floor and stared down at Penelope.

She was standing on the ground at the bottom of the three stairs that led up to the porch, which made her seem even smaller than she was. Moose knew they were an odd sight together. His six-three height to her five-two made him look even more like a giant. His muscular biceps were three times as big as hers. He was as big all over as she was small. Most of the time when he was around Penelope, he felt even more ungainly and hulking than usual, though she never made fun of his size and brawn. And normally around someone as small as she was, he’d be scared of hurting her. Not Penelope. Her personality and strength made her seem bigger than she was.

But at that moment, for the first time, Moose was scared to death to touch her. He’d loved her forever, but not knowing how she felt about him made him cautious. He didn’t want to say or do the wrong thing that might make her put him in the friend zone once and for all. He felt stupid, like a gangly teenager all over again. And he stood frozen at the top of the stairs. He didn’t know what to say or what to do.

But Penelope, being Penelope, didn’t give him much time to fret. In a blink, she came at him almost as fast as her donkey had. One second he was standing on his porch staring down at her, and the next, she was in his arms.

Sighing with a relief so profound it literally took him to his knees, Moose wrapped his arms around her waist and buried his face into her stomach. She clung to him just as desperately. No words passed between them for the longest time. They just held on to each other as if their lives depended on it.

Moose felt her hands in his hair, and he knew he’d never known anything better in his life. He could hardly believe she was there. It was almost as good a feeling as it had been the first time he’d hugged her after she’d returned from Turkey, after her captivity.

Finally, he tilted his head back and looked up at her. “Welcome back, sweetheart.”

“Thanks. It’s good to be back.”

He slowly stood, not breaking eye contact. He had a thousand things he wanted to say but couldn’t get even one out of his mouth.

But again, he needn’t have worried. Penelope took the reins. “You should know, I’m not sorry I left. I needed the time away to think. But I realized while I was traveling around, and watching others with their families and friends, that I’d done you and our friends a disservice. I need you guys. Even though I’m scared that I’m never going to find my way back to the person I used to be.”

“But that’s the thing, Pen, you don’t have to. We love the person you are today.”

“I don’t even know who that is.”

“Then we’ll help show you.”

While we wait...

This week I want to do a sort of throw-back newsletter.

As you (hopefully) know, Shelter for Penelope comes out in less than a month. You guys have been waiting for her story ever since you read Protecting the Future. That's the book that introduced you to Pen (i.e. Tiger) and where she was kidnapped by terrorists in Turkey. She was rescued by the SEALs and the Delta Force guys.

Since then she's been struggling with dealing with what happened to her. In some books that struggle was more obvious, and in others it was more of a background thing (as people who suffer from PTSD go through in real life).

When I started the Badge of Honor series it was only supposed to be six books about law enforcement. But I realized that the firefighters would work closely with the police and it made sense to make it one longer series.

I want to highlight Justice for Erin (which is book 9 of the series). This book is mostly about Erin (of course). I've always loved this book because of how strong Erin is and her journey to loving who she is. BUT, in that book you also meet Smokey. Smokey is the miniature donkey who Penelope and her fellow firefighters save from a wildfire and becomes her emotional support animal. They needed each other and I love that bond they formed.

I know a lot of people haven't started the BOH series yet, and that's okay because I know I've written a lot of books, but there is so much I love about these characters and I hope I've done all of them justice in Penelope's book.

As with all my stories, you can read my books as stand-alones, and I encourage you to pick up Justice for Erin if you haven't read it yet! Then pre-order Shelter for Penelope and see the toughest firefighter/veteran get her happily ever after!

~Susan

Justice for Erin - Meet Smokey the Donkey
“It’s tiny,” Moose observed. “I mean, I’ve seen small donkeys, but this one is really small.”

“Hmmm,” Penelope responded, obviously not truly listening.

The donkey really was in pathetic shape. His mane had burned off, leaving nothing but black stubs of hair along the back of his neck. Any hair he’d had on his sides had been burned as well, and there were patches of red, burnt skin in their place. Conor couldn’t tell what color he’d been originally.

Penelope rubbed the animal’s nose gently. “I’m so sorry. You’ll be okay now. Go on home and your owner will take care of you.”

The donkey didn’t move, except to nuzzle Penelope’s waist, making her take a step back. Moose was there to keep her upright. He wrapped one arm around her waist to steady her, and the other reached out to lightly stroke the donkey’s neck.

“I estimate him to be around thirty inches tall. Normally these guys are around thirty-six, although I’ve seen some as small as twenty-five,” Moose said.

“Do you think he’ll be able to find his way home?” Penelope asked, looking up at the man who had his arm around her.

“Yeah, Tiger. I’m sure he will.”

“We need to move,” Pops said. “We’re right in the line of that fire and it’s looking uglier than it was five minutes ago.”

And he was right. The crackling and popping of wood as it burned was louder now than it was even a few minutes ago.

Everyone picked up their tools and started digging again.

They continued for several minutes, and Conor looked behind him when he heard something. It was the donkey. He was following them.

“Go on. Go home,” Conor said, trying to shoo the animal away. He didn’t budge, simply kept his eyes on Penelope…the human who had saved him.

Conor shook his head and gave up. “If he’s too stupid to run to safety, there’s not much I can do.”

“I don’t blame him,” Penelope said as she dug. “If I was in pain and came across people who helped me, I wouldn’t want to leave them either.”

Conor shrugged. He didn’t really care if the donkey stuck close to them. He just wanted to find Erin. He wanted to be out of the middle of this fire and wanted his girlfriend to be safe.

Sarah is here!💕

Sarah and Cole are finally here!

This book has an interesting background. As you might know, the Ace Security series is published by Montlake, an Amazon owned publisher. Originally, the series was only supposed to be three books long. But then I got the idea for Ryder and Felicity's story (and to tie it to the Mountain Mercenaries series). But all along, Cole...Felicity's best friend was knocking on my brain...wanting his story.

BUT...this book wasn't contracted by my publisher. So I batted my eyes, gave them a pouty look, and they agreed to let me write it! Thus, Claiming Sarah was born!

This is a stand alone, but you'll see the characters from the Ace Security series make an appearance. This one also has a villain who is a bit different from my other bad guys. I hope you'll enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Read on!
~Susan

PS. Also out this week are eleven new books written in my Fan Fiction world. These are all in Kindle Unlimited and I encourage you to check them out. There's a story by a brand new author (her first book!) as well as books by authors you already know and love.

Stay safe out there...

We are sooooo close to Claiming Sarah popping up on your devices! It goes live in audio and ebook on Tuesday the 10th and I can't WAIT for you to read Cole and Sarah's story.

For your reading pleasure (and my teasing pleasure), I've put the my link text up on my website. In less than a week you can immerse yourself in their story and find out more about the threat facing Sarah and what Cole's going to do about it!

And on another note, in case you didn't see it, Shielding Kinley is now up for preorder on all the platforms. This is the second book in my new Delta Team Two series (The first, Shielding Gillian is also up for preorder). You met Trigger and his team in other books of mine (Protecting the Future, Rescuing Mary, Rescuing Macie) and starting next year you'll finally get to start reading about them.

If you're in the path of Hurricane Dorian, stay safe! I hope your devices are all charged up and you and your family and pets are safe!

Claiming Sarah snippet...

Thank you all for your great reviews and comments about Securing Piper which released last week! I know the tease at the end of that one was pretty intense, but you know i'll make it right in the end. :)

This week I'm turning our focus to the next book to come out... Claiming Sarah. This book is a part of the Ace Security series. This was originally only a 4 book series, but I really really wanted to give Cole, the co-owner of the local gym, his story, so I convinced my publisher to add one more book. I loved re-visiting all the couples from Castle Rock and I really think Sarah and Cole deserve their HEA (happily ever after).

I've got a small snippet for you this week, to try to pique your interest! This book is only on Amazon because it's published by an Amazon owned company. I know that stinks for my Kobo, B&N, Apple Books, and Google Play readers, and I'm sorry. The kindle app is free, but I know it's a pain to have your books on more than one device. But at least all the books in the Ace Security series would be in one place.

Enjoy the snippet, and for everyone with kids going back to school... enjoy the quiet of the house during the day!

~Susan

Claiming Sarah Snippet For You!

“Sarah, I’m not sure if you understand what’s going on here. I’m not just some guy you’re working with. Or, I was until that first lesson at the gym. Then I became more.”

“More, huh?” She liked that. A lot.

“Yeah. This was our second date,” he reminded her. “Date, angel. The thing that two people do when they’re interested in each other. When they want to get to know each other better. And I want to know more. I’m not stupid either. I know a good thing when I see it . . . and you could possibly be the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I’m not going to let you slip through my fingers simply because you happen to live in the next city over.

“The question is—are you feeling even a tenth of what I am? Can you feel the chemistry between us? I think you can, but I could be misreading everything. You might just be thankful for my help with the situation with Owen. If that’s the case, speak up now. The last thing I want to do is make you uncomfortable with my attention. That’s what’s happening with jerkhead, and I definitely won’t be that guy. Just say the word, and I’ll back off. I’ll be your self-defense coach, be the liaison between you and Ace Security, help you get that apartment, and that’ll be it.”

“No!” Sarah exclaimed.

Cole breathed out a sigh of relief at her vehement response.

“I couldn’t believe you bothered to chase me down. I mean, I know you did it because you didn’t want to lose a potential customer, and you were doing Logan a favor, but you were so apologetic . . . and I have to admit that I thought you were good looking, even if you hadbeen kind of a jerk.”

He smiled. “So you’ll let me know when you get home?”

She nodded.

“And you’ll let me take you out on another date?”

She nodded again.

He smiled gently. “And you’ll let me kiss you at the end of our third date?”

She blushed, but nodded yet again. “You can kiss me now if you want,” she said shyly.

God. Cole’s dick immediately got hard. Oh, how he wanted to. He wanted to lick her plump lips and hold her against him as he learned her taste. But he was enjoying the buildup. The anticipation. He’d only known her for a week. He could wait. Maybe.

He leaned in and loved how her eyes slowly closed and she tilted her chin up to take whatever he wanted to give her. His lips brushed against her forehead gently, and then he kissed each closed eyelid before pulling back.

“Far be it from me to break your no-kisses-until-the-third-date rule,” he said with a smile when her eyes popped open and she stared at him incredulously.
