Spun

image

Cotton candy spun and dizzy as the day

Every empty word I might say

Haunted carnival treats and twisty rides

Signify my inside and how I hide

I don’t need the reasons, please

It all looks the same to me

Afraid to hate you, worse to be

Better to dig in deep

Leave the laughter to you

Run away from the tripping clowns

Hold my breathe ’til I’m blue

If I give it my best

Spelling out simple fuck yous

A circus might be perfect

The right place to land

Trapeze, no nets

A lion with no coach

Flaming hoops and a zebra’s...

Now

What was is for not

All that is belongs to a future I cannot see

I would close my eyes if you showed me

The sting of now can only fester

Yesterday is my solace

A chance to know where I went

The day I left it all

A past encompassed by the nothing I know

Life lived as a show

Music Theme – Then And Now, Covers

Marvelous Maddie chose our theme for this week. Covering the greats is a favorite past time for many musicians. I learned to play the guitar by emulating my favorite bands. The awe of making my guitars sound like David Gilmour, or The Edge never wore off. Of course, learning these songs was a springboard into writing my own music.

I have recorded a few cover songs over the years, but I lost them ALL in the 2015 Hard Drive Crash, along with all of my unpublished writing and the entirety of my...

The Red Ribbon

image

Come over Saturday and bring your red ribbon

I will show every knot I can tie

Even suspend you as if flying high

Match it with your wardrobe

I am sure to be smitten

I promise not to touch until you say so

But don’t wait too long

There may be no tomorrow

My chance might be gone

So bring your red ribbon over to play

I only wish to be

Tangled in you all day

A Season

image

When my eyes fail to make me believe

And every word I speak is on mute

As your voice begs to break in

And still I cannot hear

Remind that I am still in human form

And the illusion will soon crumble down

Touch my face with burning hands

Shake me when I can’t understand

Scream that this season will end

That I’m not the only one

Pull me into a moment of peace

Your embrace piercing the hopeless

Use my tears to create an oasis

A paradise that lures the demons

Away from my sandpaper heart

Banish them to a world I...

Cherry Picking ~ A Duet

image

I was strolling through the forest

I had to have some cherries out of that tree

I kicked off my shoes and pulled stockings off each leg

I climbed branch after branch and slit my dress

You were ascending as I approached

You needed a spotter underneath -safe

You certainly need a few cherries to eat

You have no idea what climbing does to me

I began to swing my feet back and forth

Sitting high upon that branch so sweet

I wickedly smiled that mischievous grin

And dropped my dress in a heap at your feet

Lucky...

Reflect

image

No stranger to violence, may she find peace

Under the chaos of faux-benevolent sheriffs

Tempted again to let the thieves take her in

When safety once came only in great numbers

To find comfort in the embrace of a stranger

Only one she kept from her fitful yesterdays

It seems danger wanes in his gaze of anger

She is tossed and turning in shallow graves

Shades her eyes in purple and reds like fire

To temper her too vacant grief laiden stares

Reflected obtuse, little hope lights her way

An endless lonely l...

Preservation

Until my mouth opens…

Not one of death, but of inevitability, imminent

Our eyes glint as we scratch the ground deeper

Outer beauty, bounty missed, dictation began

It flows under our feet waiting to be sapped

If we could just dig a hole here, or drain there

Delete a forest to get there much faster

Uplifting Authors – Interview with Annette Rochelle Aben

I have had the pleasure of getting to know Annette over the past year, here on WordPress and beyond. She seems to work tirelessly to promote and encourage others every day, so I thought my readers might enjoy some insight as to who she is in her words.

But first…

Annette is a best-selling, award winning -and hilarious- author. Her success dates

??????????back to the late 80’s, with the publication of a children’s activity book that she designed. The first printing was 250,000. I may not have even touched...
