Put Some Yeast Into Your New Year's Eve Resolution
Why, oh why, didn't anyone ever tell me about this little secret when I was drinking beer? You want to know how to drink beer all night on New Year's Eve and still be the designated driver? First a little background. What?
You can't wait to hear it? If I told you everything right away, I wouldn't be able to babble as much as I do. And what would the fun in that be, for me? Our Sober Guru, Doctor Joe, as he was fondly called, was - Educated at Harvard with a troika of degrees, a BA, a JD, and an MBA. The late-Joseph Owades was a flat-out genius. With a PhD in biochemistry from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute and an early job in the fermentation sciences department at Fleischmann's, (Fleischmann's Yeast) Owades probably knew more about fermentation and alcohol metabolism than perhaps any man who has ever lived. In fact, he has been called "The best brewer who's ever lived." He used that immense knowledge to eventually become a consultant for most of the progenitors of America's early craft brewing movement such as Anchor Brewing in San Francisco, New Amsterdam Brewing in New York, and the Boston Beer Company in, you guessed it, Boston. There he became good friends with Jim Koch, helped perfect Boston Lager, and passed on to Jim his little yeast secret. "One teaspoon of yeast per beer, right before you start drinking." You see, what Owades knew was that active dry yeast has an enzyme in it called alcohol dehydrogenases (ADH). Roughly put, ADH is able to break alcohol molecules down into their constituent parts of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. Which is the same thing that happens when your body metabolizes alcohol in its liver. Owades realized if you also have that enzyme in your stomach when the alcohol first hits it, the ADH will begin breaking it down before it gets into your bloodstream and, thus, your brain. "And it will mitigate – not eliminate – but mitigate the effects of alcohol!" By Aaron Goldfarb for EsquireThere you have it. Jim Koch, the guy you see on Television all the time selling his wares, Samuel Adams, has been drinking this way for years, so too can you. Put some yeast into some yogurt right before you drink and maybe, just maybe, we will have one less drunk driver on the road for New Year's Eve.

And,
“I have absolutely no pleasure in the stimulants in which I sometimes so madly indulge. It has not been in the pursuit of pleasure that I have periled life and reputation and reason. It has been the desperate attempt to escape from torturing memories, from a sense of insupportable loneliness and a dread of some strange impending doom.” - Edgar Allan Poe -

Are You Ready For Some Football? - I Mean American Football.
Sunday. A day of rest in the Western Civilization. In some Muslim countries and Israel, Sunday is the first day of the week, just like the Hebrew and Christian calendars have stated for thousands of years. Unlike, those traditional calendars, Israel and those Muslim countries, Sunday is the first day to go to work. Go to work? How the heck are they going to be able to watch football? I used to worry about how they could have possibly seen the Formula 1 Races on Sunday, but that Season is over until the end of March of 2016. But, not to be able to watch American Pro Football? This is, what is wrong with this World. More concern for working then leisure. Well, I'm starting a movement. Well, actually I'm starting a couch movement. I'm not moving from my couch at all,
all day. In protest of everyone working today, be they in a Muslim country, Israel, or a service type job in the Western Civilization, in your Honor, I will sit on my couch all day and watch American Pro Football. Not Soccer, Football. Join me, one and all. Put down your tools of your trade today and sit on a couch, eat some junk food, get fat, and watch American Football!

Hitch-Hicking to Wolf 1061c
Have you heard?"A team of astronomers has spotted three exoplanets orbiting around the same star – Wolf 1061 – one of which is in the habitable zone." by Natali Anderson for Sci-News.com. "Wolf 1061 is a red dwarf star located in the constellation Ophiuchus, only 14 light-years from Earth."Only 14 light-years away! Do you know what that means? Here, let me get my Abacus out. OK, so, if light travels 300,000 kilometers or 186,000 miles per second, and there are 60 seconds in a minute.....OK, let me get my Slide Rule out. Sixty seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour, and there are 24 hours in a day.....I never did learn how to use this thing! OK, I need a Number Two Pencil and some Scrap Paper. Now, if light travels three hundred thousand kilometers or one hundred eighty six thousand miles per second, we have 60 seconds per minute, 60 minutes per hour, and 24 hours in a day........This is why they put Calculators on Cell Phones. I'm going to use Miles instead of Kilometers in my calculations because I was born in a country, which decided a long time ago, to go against the grain of the rest of the World. Again, we have 186,000 miles per second, and we have 60 seconds in a minute, that will give me 11,160,000 miles so far. Since we have 60 minutes in an hour, and if we times that by 11,160,000, it will give us 669,600,000 miles. With that said, we do have 24 hours in a day and if we times that by 669,600,000 we will have 16,070,400,000 miles! Since 2016 is a Leap Year, we will have 366 days in this coming year and I'll just times that by 16,070,400,00 and we'll get 5,881,766,400,000 miles! Now we're getting somewhere.Take 5,881,766,400,000 and times that by 14, (as in 14 light years away) and we'll end up with82,344,729,600,000 miles! Only? If I write it out, it looks like eighty-two trillion, three hundred forty-four billion, seven hundred twenty-nine million, six hundred thousand miles from Earth!!!!!!!!! OK, I can live with that. Now my Vespa Scooter tops out at a whopping 70 miles an hour. It will take me....carry the one....... Hell, I don't know! It will take me a long time dammit! Wait, I know! If I buy a Harley.........

The D-Wave
That last song was by the hottest new solo act, Hartmut Neven, and his new song, D-Wave Quantum Computing! And you have heard it here first on WARP in Cincinnati. Let's here what the Critics have to say, Critics:"Researchers from Google’s AI Lab say a controversial quantum machine that it and NASA have been testing since 2013 resoundingly beat a conventional computer in a series of tests."
This is DJ Two Buck Howie at WARP asking, Google, are you working with the NASA to send robots in outer space or developing an unique controlling Police force?"Governments and leading computing companies such as Microsoft, IBM, and Google are trying to develop what are called quantum computers because using the weirdness of quantum mechanics to represent data should unlock immense data-crunching powers. Computing giants believe quantum computers could make their artificial-intelligence software much more powerful and unlock scientific leaps in areas like materials science. NASA hopes quantum computers could help schedule rocket launches and simulate future missions and spacecraft. “It is a truly disruptive technology that could change how we do everything,” said Rupak Biswas, director of exploration technology at NASA’s Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California."
DJ Two Buck here. So, you are saying, Robots are not going to take over the World?"Biswas (I) spoke at a media briefing at the research center about the agency’s work with Google on a machine the search giant bought in 2013 from Canadian startup D-Wave systems, which is marketed as “the world’s first commercial quantum computer.” The computer is installed at NASA’s Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California, and operates on data using a superconducting chip called a quantum annealer. A quantum annealer is hard-coded with an algorithm suited to what are called “optimization problems,” which are common in machine-learning and artificial-intelligence software."
DJ Two Buck again. Mister Rupak Biswas. You seem to be avoiding the crucial question here. So I ask you Mister Hartmut Neven. Are Androids taking over the World!(Yes, I am) "Hartmut Neven, leader of Google’s Quantum AI Lab in Los Angeles, (I) said today that his (Are we talking about Rupak here?)) researchers have delivered some firm proof of that. They set up a series of races between the D-Wave computer installed at NASA against a conventional computer with a single processor. “For a specific, carefully crafted proof-of-concept problem we achieve a 100-million-fold speed-up,”
DJ Two Buck. So, then where's the beef?"However, D-Wave’s chips are controversial among quantum physicists. Researchers inside and outside the company have been unable to conclusively prove that the devices can tap into quantum physics to beat out conventional computers."
DJ Two Buck asking, This isn't like that Hadron Collider thing, where people thought those guys were going to create a Black Hole in our backyard. Is it?"Google posted a research paper describing its results online last night, but it has not been formally peer-reviewed. Neven said that journal publications would be forthcoming."
Well, there you have it folks. Between the Chinese creating a Clone Factory, recently Posted in my story, Clone Your Dog At Sooam.com, and these guys ultimately creating a super brain for Androids, I see nothing wrong with the coming New Year! This is DJ Two Buck Howie signing off and you've been listening to WARP in Cincinnati!

Looking Forward
Even though I'm not feeling up to par, I have this urge inside my brain to write a Post tonight because of what has befallen my eldest daughter. Monday of this week, her husband was informed that the shop that he works at is closing up, January 1st. There were signs that this was a possibility, but there is always hope until the final word is announced by the Company. In my Post, My Grandfather, I wrote how "Change is inevitable. Change is exciting. Change is good. Embrace change, then you will never be left behind in life!" Change is good, and I should have also added another line, which is, "Look forward to change." Everyone has heard the saying, "When one door closes, another door opens." You have to be prepared for change in your life or you will become bitter, wishing everything to remain the same. But nothing ever remains the same. You may plan out your future, but nobody can control their future. You can only tweak it here and there. Hoping your tweaks lead you to the type of future that you were planning for. If it doesn't come the way you thought it would, you must embrace the future that does comes to you or you will feel regret, disappointment, sorry, and remorse for a future which never came. Instead of marveling at all the different aspect of your life that the once future, now your past, has given you. Sure, its OK to be scared of the unknown. That is why it is so exhilarating once you have overcome all the unknowns and set a new course in your life for a new future.

Two Buck Howie
All my life I have had a nickname, in one form or another. When I was first went to school at Saint Mary's Grade School, because of my last name, Hauenstein, I was known as Howie. That name has stuck with me all my life. There have been other names, but each year Howie always won out. When I started playing music live in bars and clubs, I was still called Howie. It wasn't until I decided to start the last rock band I played in, before moving to California, did the full moniker come about. I was sitting at a bar with my best friend at the time, Scott, trying to figure out a name for the new band I was starting, when, off the top of his head, Scott blurts out, Two Buck Howie With The Exact Change. I loved it. After I moved to California I thought, if friends, distant family members, or old girlfriends ever wanted to find me I would still use Two Buck Howie as my nickname, in my email addresses, and on my Blog. When I had a job though, I asked everyone, just to call me Howie. To make this extremely long story shorter, after twenty-five years, Kelly Conley, one of the fine musicians I played with during the 1980s, found me by doing a Google Search of Two Buck Howie. Today, he is the Director of Sales at the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center Kenosha, in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. He still plays guitar and sent me one of his original songs. As soon as I find the time during these hectic Holidays, I'll put it on Youtube and we'll all be able to enjoy it.

Charitable
I wrote yesterday how I try, in my own small way, to be charitable, especially around the Holiday Season. I wrote how doing these little acts of kindness makes me feel all warmand fuzzy inside. I told you, that I'm charitable, because of my daughter. Who taught me how good it is to be charitable. That is only partly true. The other part of this story, is how I felt, when I received much needed help during the
Holiday Season
when that daughter was six years old. A couple of weeks before Christmas day, I received a call on my work cellphone from my boss, Jack. I was working at Cox Communication Inc. in Orange County, California at the time. Actually, I retired from that great company. They were there for me on many occasions,
when I became ill, or when I was having personal problems at home. They were very patient with me through all my ups and downs I was going through in life. When my boss called me he told me there was going to be an impromptu Christmas Party and I had to attend. It was on my day off. Well, I was upset, telling him how I had a large family, and I was going through some tough times right then about money. He told me I had to come anyways. Unbeknownst to me, he quickly organized a collection for me. When I arrived the day of the party, I was given a Christmas Tree, presents for all my kids, and some cash for gas for my truck. I was forty eight years old and I cried. I will always be grateful to Cox Communication and the wonderful people who worked there when I did. I will also always be grateful to Jack Robinson for organizing the collection, which made me realize how good it feels when people reach out and help someone like me, who was in need of help. I'm not the riches man in the world, but I'm never going to forget what they did for me and the person who organized it. Those are the riches I cherish most about my time there and how now, I'm a more charitable person because of it!

I'm Back!
In my last Post, Leave Of Absence, I talked about how I had to call 911 for my daughter. I'm happy to say everything is A-Okay. Thank the Gods or God, depending on you religious preference. In that Post I also said, because of the
Holiday Season, I was going to stay away from writing anything on "Politics, ISIS, the Racist Donald Trump, Ex-Jared Fogle associate getting 27 years for child pornography, the E.coli outbreak, and all the other fun stuff I could berate so easily." To stay with that idea, I would like to talk about my other daughter, the one who's heart is always in the right place when it come to giving to the unfortunate. So far this year, I've tried to at least give a dollar to every Salvation Army Bucket I come across, give a dollar to every Homeless Person holding a sign, and have given food to Two People who have stopped by my house, saying they haven't had a good meal in awhile. To say that I am marked as a Charitable Person, is an understatement. And it is all because of my daughter who told me, "There will always be people less fortunate then us, but we must do what we can for them." She was about eight years old when she told me that. She will be turning eighteen soon so I have been giving every Holiday Season for over ten years. I give toys and clothes to the church at least twice a year. I help a handicap man recycle twice a month so he can have a little extra spending money. And, of course, the dollar bills I give each year to the different charities and homeless people. I'm not trying to make it look like I am some kind of heroic figure by doing these things, but the feeling of helping sure gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside. If you haven't done anything charitable yet this year, you should to do at least one thing this Holiday Season, and then you'll find that, one act of kindness goes a long way in how you feel and the person you helped feel. Plus you can always ask them to Pay It Forward.
