#8Sunday and Snippet Sunday 1-11-15 Blog Hop Post from SHIFTER, PA/RO
Thank you, everyone, for stopping by my fifteenth Weekend Writing Warriors’ #8Sunday and my seventh Snippet Sunday post. To read posts by other authors or to join in the fun, click one the above links and peruse the authors listed.
Today’s excerpt comes from chapter fifteen of my supernatural romance, Shifter. In this scene, Dimitri has shifted into his human form for the first time since Mave cursed him.
Of its own accord, one of my hands reaches out and lightly grazes her skin. She is so soft. So creamy. My body grows hard at the feel of her. This is the first time I have touched her in my human form. Letting my hormones override my commonsense, I flatten my hand on her side and slowly slide it over all the exposed skin I can. After a few seconds, I bend and place a kiss on her hip.
Abby stirs at this and, without thinking, I shift from the bedroom to the bathroom.
Want to know what Dimitri does next, download your copy of Shifter today at Amazon, Smashwords, or Barnes and Noble. To find out more about this novel or me, peruse this cite or visit me on Facebook, Goodreads, Pinterest, and Twitter.
*****SHIFTER is starting out the New Year with an altered cover, new flyer, and a reduced price. If you love witches, curses, werewolves, shapeshifters, and angels, SHIFTER has them all along with a few burly alpha males, one timid, overweight heroine, some steamy sex scenes, and a happily ever after ending. Stop by your favorite online retailer and download your copy today. This 374-page, stand-alone eBook is only $3.99. SHIFTER has a 4.55 rating on Goodreads, a 4.6 rating on Amazon, and a 4.75 rating on Smashwords.*****

WIP IT UP WEDNESDAY - 1-7-15 - Excerpt from Resistant, a SYFY Romance
Welcome back to WIP IT UP WEDNESDAY. I hope everyone had a great holiday. Sorry for being MIA for so long. I come from a large family, so we have month long celebrations. I still have to have Christmas with my older sister—she’s had the flu—my best friend—her family was also sick—and my husband’s Aunt. I’m back for the foreseeable future.
If you are new to this or just deciding that joining this hop would be a great idea, visit the WIP IT IP WEDNESDAY blog home page at: http://wipitupwednesday.blogspot.co.uk/ to read the sign up instructions. Also on that page, you will find links to other wonderful authors and their WIPS.
This is my sixth week on this blog hop. This week I’m going back to my current romance WIP, Resistant. Resistant is a romance set in the middle of the zombie apocalypse. I’m talking to a photographer right now about photo options for this cover, so stay tuned for that an the synopsis. I hate writing those, so I’ll probably wait until the last moment to write, as usual, but it will come. So on to the excerpt. I’m skipping to just after the scene where Daniel sees Maggie naked.
---
I scanned my area and saw that Maggie had shut her curtains, Lucia, a lady we found in the first months we arrived, and her kids had shut the door to their section, a section we’ve named the nursery, and pretty much everyone else had settled down for the night in some form or fashion. Satisfied that all was well, I scanned the area for Daniel. He had made it to his sleeping area, right next to mine, and had stripped down to his black boxer briefs, which I’d never seen him do for more than one reason. For one, he knew that there was usually someone up here at night who could easily see him, considering both of our sleeping areas are nearly right under the look out and that neither one of us had a cover over our area. Two, he knew that wee could be an outbreak or an attack at any moment and he needed to be prepared. I knew this because I slept the same way. The closest I ever came to being naked was when I was bathing, and even then, I usually wore a sports bra and spandex shorts. We’ve tried to stress this precaution to others, and a great deal of people sleep the same way, but like Maggie, others didn’t seem to feel the need.
Confused as to why he would expose himself like that, I, quietly as possible, moved from one beam to the next until I was as close to him as I dared get. I didn’t want him catching me spying on him. I crouched and pulled my binoculars back over my eyes. He appeared to be asleep. He had his left arm tucked behind his head while his right hand rested on his stomach just above the hem of his briefs. The second I saw that I also saw the considerable bulge jutting up from his briefs.
My body had always reacted to Daniel, a fact I’d denied until then, but the sight of that bulge made both my heart beat hard in my chest and tears come to my eyes. I was not stupid. I immediately knew why he was so bare. The sight of Maggie had turned him on, and he was going to rectify the problem. Despite the sadness numbing my body and emotions, I couldn’t look away. I’m perverted, I know. Let’s move on.
I looked back down in his direction to see him looking around his sleeping area, I guess to make sure no one had peaked their head in and was watching him. Not once did he think to look up. I didn’t know if he could see me from where he lay, but I shifted as far back into the darkness as I could and still see him.
Satisfied that he was alone, he laid his head back, turned it to face the direction of my sleeping area, and slid his right hand down to his briefs. He didn’t slide it under them, but slowly rubbed the bulge through the briefs. A little disappointed by the fact that he wasn’t going to pull himself out, I sighed but continued to watch. I refused to let myself think about what he was thinking about, or to be more accurate, who he was thinking about.
After a few minutes, his left hand reached over to his duffel, rummaged around for a second, then pulled out a small rectangle. At first, I didn’t have a clue what it was until he laid it on his chest, opened it, and pulled out two white, folded squares. It was one of those little packs of tissues that the old women in my church used to carry around with them. I blushed. So all right, maybe I was in for more of a show then I thought I was going to get.
He confirmed my suspicion by tossing the pack of tissues back into this bag with his left hand while at the same time fumbling with the hem of briefs with his right. My entire body trembled at the sight of his naked body. My mouth went dry. The center of my body throbbed painfully. My breathing was loud and quick, but I couldn’t stop watching his hand move up and down on his now exposed penis as he pleasured himself.
For the briefest moment, I wanted to drop from my perch and join him, but then I remembered why he was in this state. I understood that in his current position he wouldn’t turn me away, but it wouldn’t be me he wanted, and once we were done, he’d apologize for everything and hope we could go back to just being friends. That fact grounded me and cooled my blood. Whereas the sight of him finding his release was wonderful, I turned away and went back to my post. I had a job to do.

I hoped you enjoyed that. Just a little update on HIM, a novel that some of you are following. My editor sent the novel back to me yesterday. I’ve started my last read-through today, and am hoping to have it to my beta readers by next week. HIM is not a romance, but a suspense thriller, but if any of you would like me to add you to my list of beta readers, email me at: jennifer.powell.reynolds@gmail.com. Because of the holiday, we are a little behind on this novel, so it won’t be out until the end of February. I do have the first two chapters on Goodreads, and plan to add a few more over the next few weeks.

One last note. My only other romance novel, SHIFTER, has a slightly altered cover, a pretty new flyer, and a new lowered price of $3.99 if anyone is interested. If you love Witches, curses, werewolves, shapeshifters, and angels, SHIFTER has them all along with a few burly alpha males, one timid, slightly overweight heroine, some steamy sex scenes, and a happily ever after ending. Stop by your favorite online retailer and download your copy today. This 374-page, stand-alone eBook is only $3.99. Snippet Sunday and #8Sunday 12-14-14 From Shifter (RO/PA)
Thank you, everyone, for stopping by my fourteenth Weekend Writing Warriors’ #8Sunday and my sixth Snippet Sunday post.
Today’s excerpt comes from chapter fourteen of my supernatural romance, Shifter.
“What the hell?” I grunt, forgetting that no one can hear me. The movie had gone on for three whole hours. Some of it was interesting, but most of it I couldn’t watch and toward the end I had fallen asleep; I’m awake now. I jerk up from my place on the floor even though I can’t see because something is covering my eyes. I shake my head lightly and the object slips to the floor. My eyes go wide at the sight of the yellow piece of silk lying before me.
Her panties. How had her panties gotten on my head?
Want to know how Dimitri ended up with Abby’s panties on his head, download your copy of Shifter today at Amazon, Smashwords, Barnes and Noble, or Google Play. To find out more about this novel or me, peruse this cite or visit me on Facebook, Goodreads, Pinterest, and Twitter.
****From now until December 26th, all ecopies of this novel are half off. Download SHIFTER today for only $2.49.****
Stop by next weekend to read another snippet from this novel or stop by Weekend Writing Warriors to read excerpts from others or join in the fun. To check out Snippet Sunday posts and/or join that blog hop as well, see their Facebook page.

WIP IT UP WEDNESDAY - 12-10-14 - Excerpt from Resistant
Welcome back to WIP IT UP WEDNESDAY. If you would like to know more about this blog home, want to read more WIP, or to join the hop, visit: http://wipitupwednesday.blogspot.co.uk/
This is my fourth week on this blog hop. I’m going to continue this week with another short little scene from Resistant, my current romance in progress that is set in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. This novel is still in the editing stages, so many things, including the title may be different once this novel is ready to go to print.
In the following scene, Sahara and her group have set up camp in an abandoned Walmart. Because not all of their group is immune to the zombie virus, Sahara, Daniel, and another of other people have to patrol the store night and day watching for anyone who might have turned. Sahara is currently sitting in the rafters of the store watching Daniel.
---
I also preferred it[watching from the rafters] because I could watch Daniel from up there without him or anyone else seeing me. Yes, I realize I was like a schoolgirl with a crush around him, but I couldn’t help it. No one was more surprised than me when I realized that even though he babied the crap out of me, which kept me constantly pissed at him, I liked him. Well, I more than liked him. I was growing to love him.
His feeling weren’t mutual, of course. He saw me as an annoying baby sister that he had to protect. I understand that fact, and I’d tried ignoring my feelings for him, tired thinking about some of the other men in our group, but none of them appealed to me the way Daniel did.
Right then, he was headed toward the front of the store on his last sweep before his shift was over. I watched him instead of watching everyone else, and cringed when I saw him pass in front of Maggie’s sleeping area.
Maggie is a nice enough girl…woman, but she was always looking for attention. I wouldn’t necessarily call her a whore, but she did tend to go through partners rather quickly. At that moment, she was using an old, for her, but effective trick. She had left the curtains to her sleeping quarters open just enough for someone passing by to see her putting lotion all over her naked body. My heart sank at the sight of her perfect form exposed the way it was with Daniel quickly approaching her line of sight.
But as with most horrible sights, I couldn’t take my eyes off them. I didn’t want to watch him touch her, to bed her, but I knew it was about to happen, and I couldn’t look away. With ease, he passed her open door and did a double take, then turned around quickly with his back to her. He backed up slowly, his hand out, searching for the fabric she used for a door. Before he can pull her curtains to, she stood up straight in faux surprise, but I saw the “caught cha look” she gave him.
----
For those of you who want to know more about HIM, here is the next hundred words or so of that novel. This section picks up where the last one left off.
“You said he wasn’t going to be here,” I snapped, realizing, not for the first time, that this might be a trap.
“And he isn’t going to be, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make trouble by spreading your lies. Your uncle has had a lot on his plate lately with Mathew robbing that bank last year and going to jail and all. Things haven’t been easy for him since Caroline divorced him. I had really hoped Jacqueline was his second chance. Poor man. So, don’t you go making any more trouble for him.”
I didn’t plan on telling anyone anything. She promised the bastard wouldn’t be here, and as long as he wasn’t, I could get through this week.

Snippet Sunday and #8sunday - 12-7-14 from SHIFTER (RO/PA)
Thank you, everyone, for stopping by my thirteenth Weekend Writing Warriors’ #8Sunday and my fifth Snippet Sunday post.
Today’s excerpt comes from chapter thirteen of my supernatural romance, Shifter. In this scene, the police have come to Abby’s house with a search warrant to search her house because Devan thinks he has found evidence that she is holding Dimitri hostage. (I have slightly altered this scene to meet the guidelines of this blog hop.)
“Abby, I’m sorry about all of this,” Devan cuts in, attempting to step closer to me.
“Save it. I can’t believe I fell for your bullshit. Why would you go out of your way to take me out just so that you could check out my house?”
“That’s not why I asked you out. The witness came forward the day we went out. I didn’t know anything about it until the next day.”
“You know what, I don’t care. Get out of my house.”
Want to know what happened after their date to warrant the cops showing up at Abby’s house? Download your copy of Shifter today at Amazon, Smashwords, Barnes and Noble, or Google Play. To find out more about this novel or me, peruse this cite or visit me on Facebook, Goodreads, Pinterest, and Twitter.

WIP IT UP Wednesday - 12-3-14 Exceprt from Resistant
I’m back. Sorry that I missed last week, but things were just so hectic. This week my WIP post is from my upcoming romance novel set in the middle of the zombie apocalypse. This excerpt comes from chapter 4, and the very next morning after she and Daniel meet.
---
A loud commanding voice woke me at sunrise a few hours later. A pounding on my bedroom door followed the voice seconds later. “Son-of-a…” I mumbled, jumping at the noise. I rose, looked out my bedroom window, and saw the soft light of the sun slowly breaking through the curtains. “Really.” I plopped back on the pillow, pulled the cover over my head, and started to doze back off. I wasn’t part of their military, and I didn’t want them there. If they insisted on being there, they could take care of themselves.
Seconds later, another pounding came at the door. I threw the blankets off me, rolled out of bed, stomped to the door, and jerked it open. “What?” I demanded.
Daniel stood outside my door, mouth open in a silent remark. I looked down at myself and realized that for the second time in two days, I stood in front this man in almost nothing. This time was worse because now all I wore were a pair of panties and a long shirt.
For a second, I wanted to be embarrassed, but then I decided that by the look on his face and his cautious look up and down the hall for others, my appearance offended him. Good. He deserved to be offended. This was my house. I would wear what I wanted in my own damned bedroom.
“You should probably…” he started to say.
“I should probably what? Get dressed? Why should I. This is my house. If you don’t want to see my fat ass half-naked, you should have picked somewhere else to stay.” I propped my hands on my hips, causing my shift to lift even further.
His eyes widened, then he looked away. Yep, get a good disgusting look at the fat girl’s thighs. Maybe you’ll think twice about banging on my door, I thought and grinned smugly at him
-----
Okay, for those of you who want to know more about HIM, here is the next hundred words or so of HIM.
“Don’t be so dramatic,” my mother replied in a caustic voice, thankfully, oddly enough, interrupting my train of thought. That was just like my mother. She would have her say, no matter how I tried to avoid her retorts. I shouldn’t have said anything, but sometimes things come out without my control.
“I’m not being dramatic, Mother,” I spat in a low voice. We were more than a mile from the mainland, with another mile or so to go before we reached my grandparent’s resort.
“Don’t start this again,” Mom warned me. “You leave your uncle alone.”
Oh, I planned to stay as far away from that man as humanly possible. The problem was that he never left me alone. He seemed determined to find me wherever I hid.

Snippet Sunday and #8sunday - 11-30-14 from SHIFTER (RO/PA)
Thank you, everyone, for stopping by my twelfth Weekend Writing Warriors’ #8Sunday and my fourth Snippet Sunday post.
Today’s excerpt comes from chapter twelve of my supernatural romance, Shifter. In this scene, Abby and Devan have returned from their date, and Dimitri is listening to the conversation they are having on Abby’s front porch. (I have slightly altered this scene to meet the guidelines of this blog hop.)
“I’m going to invite you in, but you should know before you enter that we won’t be having sex.”
“We’ll see.”
“No, seriously, no sex.”
“I won’t say I’m not disappointed, but if you say no sex, then I won’t do anything more than this.”
I can’t stop myself. When I hear her intake of breath, I pull a Sebastian and begin scratching at the door to distract them. At the noise, I hear a growl escape Devan’s lips and a soft chuckle come from Abby. With a satisfied meow, I step away from the door.
Want to know if their date ends here? Download your copy of Shifter today at Amazon, Smashwords, Barnes and Noble, or Google Play. To find out more about this novel or me, peruse this cite or visit me on Facebook, Goodreads, Pinterest, and Twitter.

Meet My Character Monday Blog Tour #MMCMBH: Meet the Avery from HIM
Good Monday morning folks. Welcome back to the Meet My Character Monday Blog Hop. Today I want to introduce you to Avery, another character from my upcoming suspense/thriller HIM. Avery is one of the main characters in HIM. He is sixteen years old and is Amy’s little brother.
Avery is your typical teenage boy, playing sports, hanging with his friends, and grossing out his sister. In the very first scene in the novel, we see him acting out and trying to aggravate his mother, sister, and cousin.
“I can swim this,” Avery, my little brother, said in a defiant tone to our cousin Jake. The two boys were leaning against the railing of the ferry, pretending to calculate the distance between Little Paw, our grandfather’s island, which lay in front of us, and Yellow Head, a town on the mainland of South Carolina’s southern coast just north of Tybee National Wildlife Refuge, which lay behind us.
“No, you couldn’t,” Jake countered. “It’s nearly two miles from dock to dock. You’d never make it.”
“I bet I could. You couldn’t though,” Avery bated him, then hawked up a wad of spit and let it slowly drip from his mouth to the water.
The most important thing to know about Avery is that when push comes to shove, he has his sister’s back. The following scene shows that he willingly puts himself between Amy and her abuser, and takes Amy’s side over his mother’s, the person who should believe Amy, but doesn’t.
I moved my chair out a little more. As I started to rise, my brother stood up in front of me. Even though Avery was two years younger than I was, he was taller and bigger. He moved in front of me, blocking me from his view if he happened to look our way.
“Avery?” Mom asked, watching him. His protective action baffled her.
“We’re leaving, mother,” he said through gritted teeth.
By protecting his sister though, he does put himself in harm’s way a number of times. At the end of the novel, he takes a few blows to the head while trying to keep his uncle away from his sister.
I heard Avery call Shane’s name, then mine, then I jerked my head in his direction in time to see my little brother hit the ground. Shocked, I lunged for my brother, turned him around, and saw a massive gash leaking blood across his forehead.
“He’ll live,” he said from behind me where Shane lay. I turned to see him kneeling over Shane, gun pointed at his head. “Get up, and go inside.”
To find out more about what happens to Amy and Shane, check out the novel’s Facebook page or read the first chapter on Goodreads. This novel has a tentative release date of January 2015.
