When Grant and Sophie meet at their parole officer’s office they are none the wiser to their connection. They fall in love and it couldn’t get more complicated when they find out Grant’s brother is the reason they both went to prison.
In an Oyster Shell – It was slow going at first but it got compelling by the end.
The Pearls – Having two convicts who come together in a relationship is interesting. It just so happens that they are both law abiding citizens they just got involved in the wrong crime family. That they meet by chance but their lives are interwoven with their connection to the same crime family is riveting.
The characters are diverse and well-developed. I like the main characters they are distinctive in the things that define them. Grant is a previous naval officer and Sophie is a therapist. Though they lost their professions because they are convicts it still very much defines who they are. The supporting characters like the boat captain that gives them a job and the parole officer, they give sophistication to the story.
The romance is sweet. It’s a little quick but heartwarming all the same. Sophie and Grant hit it off immediately. It’s like them against the world. They relate to each other really well-being convicts seeking to do better. It’s a really sweet romance with a side of steam.
The Sand – The pacing was slow making it hard to engage with the book for a good portion of it. It gets better towards the end and made me want to continue with the whole series.

The Pearls – I like the epic conflict between fairies and hunters. The main character is caught in the middle. This makes for all sorts of exciting circumstances. Its almost like the conflict you find in the Twilight series except you’re dealing with fairies and hunters rather than the vampires and werewolves.
The idea of fairies is a concept that draws me in. I like the story that is told about these fairies. It’s interesting the hunters are there to keep them in line. The history between hunters and fairies is interesting.
There is a little bit of a love triangle which adds to the before mentioned conflict. The end result is unexpected and thrilling. I like the two love interests. Though one is more interested in the main character than she is in him.
The characters are distinctive and add a lot of depth to the narrative. The main character is strong enough to stand up to the trails the author throws at her. The supporting characters add an interesting perspective to the story. It’s intriguing that the main character has to balance her life between normal and the paranormal. It makes the book worth reading.
The Sand – It was a good book.

About Olivia Wildenstein
Olivia Wildenstein grew up in New York City, the daughter of a French father with a great sense of humor, and a Swedish mother whom she speaks to at least three times a day. She chose Brown University to complete her undergraduate studies and earned a bachelor’s in comparative literature. After designing jewelry for a few years, Wildenstein traded in her tools for a laptop computer and a very comfortable chair. This line of work made more sense, considering her college degree.
When she’s not writing, she’s psychoanalyzing everyone she meets (Yes. The Pearls –
I liked the first book, so I was eager to read the second book. The second book does not disappoint! The idea of a dream world that the characters can influence is a good one. The concept was well conceived and well executed.
The characters developed nicely. They pressed forward despite the constant conflict they encountered. Gabriel was an underdog character that rises to the occasion.
The romance was a surprising subplot through the story. It was surprising because it concluded in an unexpected way. I liked that the author put a twist in the amor side of things. It was very refreshing.
The Sand – It was a good book.

In an Oyster Shell – A steamy story with a solid, intriguing story.
The Pearls – The concept was interesting. I liked that there was a single Presidential candidate in need of a wife. I like stories where couples pose in relationships and have the potential to become something more.
Georgie was a strong character. Her capacity to love was moving. I liked that the author gave her quirks like a palate of a toddler as Jameson said about her. Jameson was a stoic character that had a lot of internal conflicts that made the story enjoyable.
The book had a lot of external conflicts that ensued in a lot of action. It made for a page turning read. The conflicts that came up were imaginative and exciting. The storyline was rock solid with all the right elements.
The romance was steamy with a side of sweet. It took most of the book for the romance to develop. It was paced nicely.
The Sand – It wasn’t a clean novel.

Interpretation is a dystopian fiction that explores hope and happiness in the bleakest of conditions and what happens when it’s torn away.
Inspiration for Interpretation
As a media arts teacher, every year in March I supervise a group of high school students that compete in a skills competition in southern Ontario, Canada. Last year, while sitting on a bus, a few of them started to discuss their favorite scenes from science fiction movies. Some of them were surprising – scenes from Soylent Green, the original Planet of the Apes, Total Recall, and the Matrix. To name a few.
And that’s where my mind began to wander. I was a pretty big fan of the Matrix. Originally, I enjoyed the movie for its fresh cinematics (which have been re-hashed to death at this point), but its lasting power, in my mind, is because of the Cartesian philosophy that drove the story. The complex question of what is illusion versus what is real. I’ve always been someone who comes back to this question. And their conversation brought me back to ask it again.
I started thinking about different scenarios where we wouldn’t be able to decipher the difference between what’s real and what’s illusion, which led me to write a short descriptive piece while on the bus. You can read the original chapter on Cosmic Teapot here. I liked what I wrote, so I outlined the rest of the book. I had the entire story mapped out (I later made a number of alterations, but that’s to be expected) within two days. Considering that it took me nearly a year just to decide on the story for my previous novel, Operation Cosmic Teapot, I felt accomplished. I finished the first draft of Interpretation in under a year.
A number of dystopian classics also inspired me. I wanted, in some ways, to write an homage to Nineteen Eighty-Four. I wanted to include little easter eggs from Brave New World. And the barren wasteland that the protagonist, Carl Winston, enters is inspired by The Road.
But the biggest source of inspiration came when I happened to come across a man named Dr. Jose Delgado. Dr. Delgado was a neurobiologist who researched physical mind control devices. He even implanted some of these devices in animals’ heads, the most significant being a bull. This man went as far as to say, “The individual may think that the most important reality is his own existence, but this is only his personal point of view. This lacks historical perspective. Man does not have the right to develop his own mind. This kind of liberal orientation has great appeal. We must electronically control the brain. Someday armies and generals will be controlled by electric stimulation of the brain.”
I started to wonder what logical ends this kind of thinking could produce, which is where the story really took off. Not only with the ‘what if’ of having a civilization with mind control devices implanted in them, but also ‘what if’ other psychological experiments were brought to their extreme ends.
But back to the beginning. I wish I knew who those students on the bus were. They were from a different school and I had never met them before. I wasn’t a part of their conversation but it was the moment that sparked this book. I’d definitely like to thank them for that.

Dylan Callens lands cleanly. That would be the headline of a newspaper built with an anagram generator. And although Dylan is a Welsh name meaning god or hero of the sea, he is not particularly fond of large bodies of water. His last name, Callens, might be Gaelic. If it is, his last name means rock. Rocks sink in the sea. Interestingly, he is neither Welsh nor Gaelic, but rather, French and German. The inherent contradictions and internal conflict in his life are obvious.

Raine Harper wants to get Wade Gates attention. She has been in love with him for a long time. The problem is he dates model thin women and Raine is a little bigger than that. Raine is trying to lose wait for Wade’s homecoming. She runs into Dirk Adams. He proposes that they pretend to date to make Wade jealous. Dirk thinks Raine is perfect as she is. Will Raine see that same thing in herself?
In an Oyster Shell – A steamy romance that had a great storyline.
The Pearls – The whole storyline was cute and well-done. I liked that Raine is going after one man and another even better man is interested in her. He’s right under her nose. She doesn’t get it. Dirk is relentless in showing Raine how beautiful she is. Just the way she is.
Dirk was my favorite character. He was an actor but was really down to earth. He was a great hero. Raine was a clueless heroine it could be frustrating at times but made for an interesting story.
The romance was cute. It was a full story even though it was a novella.
I like how in these books heroine’s make wishes. They get their wish but not how they expect. The endings are very clever.
The Sand – It wasn’t a clean romance.

In an Oyster Shell – It was a compelling read that was creative and intriguing.
The Pearls – The whole book is good. The writing was well done. The concept was well conceived and well executed. I liked the idea of a dream world.
The attraction between Gabriel and Christine was electric. It compelled Christine to join Gabriel in his world. The tension this caused among her friends was tangible. The conflict and tension made me turn the pages quickly.
The world building was well done. The work that went into building up the dream world was intense. It paid off in the end. I like how the author used Gabriel’s stories to describe his experiences.
The Sand – I didn’t like all the stories that Gabriel shared with Christine.

Marion MacAlister is looking to ace her audition. She has to make it there on time. First, she stops by the diner in her building that his own and run by her landlord. Mack Ryan sends mixed signals. Marion just can’t read them. When she gets stuck with him she might not make her audition. Instead, she might get Mack.
In an Oyster Shell – A cute and quick read.
The Pearls – I like how the books open with Marion wishing at a well. The action is fast-paced. The story goes quickly and is worth the read.
The characters were well developed. It was quite the feat to develop characters with such a short novella. The author did this well.
The romance was really cute. The two characters compliment each other well. I like how the romance ended it was clever.
The Sand – I feel the story could have been fleshed out just a tiny bit more.

The Pearls – I am starting to like these military romances. The characters come with interesting backgrounds. This usually makes for a suspenseful exciting read and this book was no exception. I liked the military background that set the tone for the whole book.
I talk about characters a lot but they really do make or break a book. The characters in this book were strong and well defined. I really like Louisa she was quirky and not your typical heroine. Her idiosyncrasies were what attracted Six to her and really made for an entertaining read.
The romance was steamy with a side of sweet. Six could look past Louisa’s awkwardness. It was one of the more intriguing romances I have read in a while. There were a lot of obstacles for the couple to overcome and that made for a great story.
The Sand – The transitions of POV’s were not distinctive and made for confusion at times.

The tattoo across my right hip says it all really. A Life Less Ordinary. Inked by the amazingly talented Luke Wessman at the Wooster Street Social Club (a.k.a. New York Ink). Why is it important? Well, it sums up my view on life. That we should all aspire to live a life that is less boring, less predictable. Be bold, and do something amazing. I’ve made some crazy choices. I’ve been a car maker, a consultant, and even a senior executive at a large retailer running strategy. Born in England, spent time in the U.S. and Japan, before ending up in Canada were I met my own, personal hero – all six and a half feet of him. Both of us are scorpios! Yeah, I know! Should have checked the astrological signs earlier, but somehow it works for us. We have two amazing kids, who I either could never part with or could easily be convinced to sell on e-bay.
I’ve wanted to be a writer for a really long time. Check through my office cupboards or my computer and you’ll find half written stories and character descriptions everywhere. Now I’m getting the chance to follow that dream.
