Instagram posts now up!

Happy Friday, Write Edge readers! I feel like I need a kayak to get out of the house — so much rain this week! Thankfully this weekend is supposed to be dry and sunny, which means Mother’s Day will be nice and bright. :>

I’ve posted my latest Instagram posts for you. Check out what I’m reading for next week with my #bookreviewpreview, see what I brought home from the store today, and more! If you’re on Instagram, find me with my handle, @EktaRGarg. You can see previews of the posts here on the home page, of course, or, if you’re on Facebook (and want to check out other fun stuff exclusive to that platform,) go now to my Facebook author page.

Take care of each other and yourselves, readers!

Two bookish posts in one!

Hello, Write Edge readers! Today you get two bookish posts in one, and they’re both about the same book. First, I’ve reviewed Chris Hauty’s newest political thriller, Storm Rising, for you. Here’s the opening to my post:

A deep state operative is on the hunt for information about her late father and stumbles upon a white supremacy plot that will tear the nation apart. As the operative chases down clues about her dad, she discovers his connection to the plot may be more direct than she’s prepared to accept. Author Chris Hauty brings back his whip-smart, self-sufficient protagonist Hayley Chill in the most thoughtful, introspective book in the series, Storm Rising.

Read the whole review now on The Write Edge Bookshelf!

Also on the Bookshelf today is the first installment of Thursday R.E.A.D.s, and this month’s focus is — what else? — Storm Rising. Today I share my (extended) thoughts on the book as a Reviewer. Check out the post now on the Thursday R.E.A.D.s page on the Bookshelf!

Take care of each other and yourselves, readers!

Welcome, May!

Good evening, Write Edge readers! We’ve sprung into the month of May, and I don’t know about your house, but ours gets busy at this time of year. We’re gearing up for an 8th grade graduation at the end of this month, and plans are in full swing for a Sweet 16 this summer. Also, when it comes to writing, I’m working hard every day to complete a good draft of my latest work to send to my publisher, Atmosphere Press. Life is a little on high speed right now, but it’s good too.

We have a full week this week! First up, this week’s short story. Here’s the excerpt for you:

Yes, she wrote. It’s time for me to let go and for you to earn what is rightfully yours.

Read the whole thing now on The Write Edge Writing Workshop!

Next, in the middle of the week, I’ll share with you my review of Chris Hauty’s newest political thriller, Storm Rising, due out tomorrow. It’s the third installment in the Hayley Chill series, and I’ll let you know on Wednesday whether it measures up to the first two. Look for that review on The Write Edge Bookshelf!

This week I’ll also jump into the second Thursday R.E.A.D.s of the year. Want to know what book I’ll be diving deeper into? Find out on Thursday also on the Bookshelf.

Then on Friday, we go back to Instagram and a few snapshots — literally — of my life. Check out older photos with my handle, @EktaRGarg, on Instagram, or go to my Facebook author page (where you’ll also find other cool stuff exclusive to FB.)

Have a lovely week, readers! Take care of each other and then yourselves!

“Gentlemen, [s]he’s on a hat trick!”

Happy Friday, readers! If any of you are a Bollywood fan and saw the movie Lagaan more than once, you might recognize the line of dialogue in the title there. Today I’m sharing not one, not two, but three pieces of regular Write Edge content.

I’m still a little giddy myself that I’ve been able to do this, especially after missing posts for two weeks. :>

First, Instagram. Find out what I’m reading this week, what I’m getting up to next week, and more. You can see the thumbnail preview posts here on the home, go straight to Instagram and find me with my handle, @EktaRGarg, or check out the posts on my Facebook author page. However you find them, take a look and give me a shout-out!

Next, Growth Chart. I’m sharing some thoughts on what it means when one of the kids travel without us. Here’s a quick excerpt:

I tried not to focus too much on those really bad things. Instead, as I wrote out a list of phone numbers to tuck into her wallet, I let myself concede that the list was probably a symptom of my over-cautious parenting self.

Read the whole post of parenting adventures now on Growth Chart!

Lastly, I’ve posted my latest episode of Biblio Breakdown. In this semi-regular podcast, I take a book, examine it based on a particular theme, then share analysis and writing exercises for you to implement in your own writing. The newest episode just dropped today. Check it out now on my author website!

And now I’m off to enjoy the rest of the evening with another book. Take care of each other and yourselves, readers!

New book review now up!

Hello, Write Edge readers! As promised, I’ve posted my latest book review for you. Today I share my thoughts on debut author Lis Angus’s book Not Your Child. Here’s the opening to my post:

A single mother finds herself in the middle of every parent’s nightmare when her child disappears. As she works with local police to find her daughter, she discovers troubling truths about herself and tries to reconcile them with memory. Debut author Lis Angus offers readers a strong plot with only a few minor hitches in her first book Not Your Child.

Apologies for being MIA!

Hello, Write Edge readers! My deepest, deepest apologies for being MIA recently. I’ve been knee-deep in deadlines — some work related, some self-imposed — and there are, unfortunately, only so many hours in the day. I guess I could give up sleeping, but I don’t think anyone wants to see the loopy version of me on here. Writing is hard enough as it is! 😀

I am back, however, and fully intend to keep to the regular schedule. Of course, that doesn’t mean the deadlines have gone away, but it’s important to me to stay in touch here with all of you. So for the moment, I’m ignoring the deadlines (only for a few minutes, don’t worry) and talking to you again.

It’s the last Monday of the month, which means time for our writers’ showcase. I’m always blown away by the writing that I share here. So much talent out there! It’s encouraging and a little intimidating — but mostly encouraging — all at the same time. Find out what pieces really touched my heart by going now to The Write Edge Writing Workshop!

In the middle of the week, I’ll share a brand new book review with you. Last week saw the release of Not Your Child by Lis Angus. Come back on Wednesday to find out what I thought about this new thriller. You’ll get that review on The Write Edge Bookshelf!

And the end of this week is going to be a busy one. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that I’ll be able to post new Instagram posts, a new Growth Chart, and a new Biblio Breakdown on Friday. I’ll keep you posted on all of it.

Thanks for your patience and understanding, readers! Remember to take care of each other and then yourselves.

Have a wonderful day and week!

Book review now up!

Hello, Write Edge readers! I’ve posted my book review for you. Today I share my thoughts on The Younger Wife by Sally Hepworth. Here’s the opening to my post:

Two sisters suspect foul play when their father falls in love with a much younger woman and announces their engagement. As the sisters get to know the woman, they grapple with the lurking sense that their father may be someone they don’t recognize. Author Sally Hepworth returns with family secrets and dynamic relationships in her best novel yet, The Younger Wife.

April showers bring…

Good morning, Write Edge readers! We’ve had quite the wet start to this month of April. They say April showers bring May flowers, but right now all they’re bringing is a lot of mud. 😀

In any case, mud or not, you know you can always come to The Write Edge for our regular content! First up, this week’s short story. I’ve been revising my fairy tale novel, prepping it to send to my publisher, so I decided to write a little something from the point of view of one of the characters. Here’s an excerpt from this week’s short story:

I couldn’t bear to watch as my father hanged for a crime he did not commit, but I was forced to collect his personal effects later.

Read the whole thing now on The Write Edge Writing Workshop!

Next is this week’s book review. Australian author Sally Hepworth is back with her latest novel, The Younger Wife, that releases tomorrow. Find out what I thought about it on Wednesday on The Write Edge Bookshelf!

Lastly, we’re back to Instagram. I’ll share some photos of my recent travels to Washington, DC, as well as what I’m reading for next week’s book review, and more. Check out older posts with my handle on Insta, @EktaRGarg, or on my Facebook author page.

Take care of each other and then yourselves, readers!

When his son is implicated in the disappearance of a classmate, the man knows he must get to the bottom of the situation before his son’s life changes forever. Author T.M.
