Growth Chart and Instagram posts!
Happy Friday, Write Edge readers! It’s a blustery one here today in Central Illinois, but I have a brand new Growth Chart and new Instagram posts to cheer you up. First, this month’s Growth Chart. Here’s a quick excerpt:
“MY PHONE ARRIVED AT 10:23 THIS MORNING. I AM COMING HOME SOON TO CLAIM IT.”
“Why are you shouting at me?”
“LET ME SPIT INTO A TUBE REAL FAST AND I WILL COME HOME AND EXPLAIN,” she wrote back.

Also, new Instagram posts show you what I’m reading and a fun exhibit here in town. Check those out with my handle, @EktaRGarg, or on my Facebook author page (you can see the previews of them here on the home page too.)
Have a great weekend, and take care of each other and yourselves, readers!

Book review for you!
Hello, Write Edge readers! I hope you’re having a good week so far. My apologies for not posting last Friday and on Monday. In truth, I was looking for a book to review. I had to make my way through three books before I could find one to share with you. Today I offer my thoughts on Remember Me by Estelle Laure. Here’s the opening to my post:
A teen in the near future wakes up to discover that her life seems off kilter. As she tries to retrace her steps to the moment everything changed, she finds herself confronting hard truths. Author Estelle Laure’s latest YA novel features a plot that’s slightly out of breath but contains writing that sparkles in Remember Me.

Keep an eye out on Friday for this month’s Growth Chart, and if I can I’ll try to sneak some Instagram pictures on my feed for you too.

Book review now up!
Hello, Write Edge readers! I hope you’re having a wonderful day and week so far. I’ve posted my latest book review for you. Today I share my thoughts on The Heights by Louise Candlish. Here’s the opening to my review:
A woman sets out for revenge when she learns that the person responsible for her son’s death is roaming free. As she fights with loved ones about what to do, she revisits the memories of the circumstances around the tragedy and must decide how far she’ll go to get the justice she believes she deserves. Author Louise Candlish plumbs the depths of a mother’s grief with a plot that sometimes gets a little lost in her newest book The Heights.

Pi(e)s and ides and lots of green
Hello, Write Edge readers! This is something of an unusual week indeed. It’s Pi Day today, which really should be about math but gives people an excuse to chow down on their favorite pastry-filled item (most of us here in the States eat sweet pies; other countries often serve savory ones too.) Then we have tomorrow, the Ides of March. Do be careful, friends. Later this week, we also celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Lots to keep us busy this week!
I also have some fun content. First this week’s short story. I know I started the year by saying I would focus on micro fiction, but this one encouraged me to keep going just a little longer. Here’s the excerpt:
One of the men closest to her guffawed with laughter. “You think you’re going to convince Harvey to do it?”

Next is the book review for this week. In case you missed the #bookreviewpreview on Instagram on Friday, this Wednesday I’ll share my thoughts on The Heights by Louise Candlish. Find out what I thought of this thriller in the middle of the week on The Write Edge Bookshelf!
Finally (speaking of Instagram,) we’ll go back to pictures on Friday. Find out what I’m reading for next week’s book review by looking for #bookreviewpreview and see what else I’m up to in my reading/writing life (as well as the other things I do when I’m not in the studio pounding away on my keyboard. :D)
Take care of each other and yourselves, readers!

Book review now up!
Hello, Write Edge readers! A happy sunshine-y Wednesday to you from Central Illinois. I have my latest book review for you. Today I share my thoughts on The Unsinkable Greta James by Jennifer E. Smith. Here’s the opening to my post:
A singer on the cusp of the next big step in her career is forced to reset after an embarrassing incident on stage. In her week off, she must learn to connect with an emotionally distant parent and discover her love for music again if she wants to keep moving forward. Author Jennifer E. Smith’s latest book contains refreshing moments of clarity, but some scenes feel a little less developed in The Unsinkable Greta James.

Welcome to the first full week of March!
Hello, Write Edge readers! It’s a chilly, blustery day here in Central Illinois today. I had to run outside for a minute this morning to speak to someone and had only grabbed a thin jacket. Brrr!
That’s okay; I have plenty of good content to keep you warm. :>
First, this week’s short story. I had no idea, when I picked this prompt, what would come of it. I wish I knew more about this protagonist and the choice he made, but sometimes writing is like that. Maybe you can share your theories with me! Here’s the one-sentence excerpt:
[T]hose who ran away had to keep running until life kicked them in the butt and forced them to stop.

Next, it’s this week’s book for my review. On Wednesday I’ll share my thoughts on the recently released novel The Unsinkable Greta James by Jennifer E. Smith. If you want to know whether you should pick it up too, come back in the middle of the week for my review on The Write Edge Bookshelf.
Finally, at the end of the week, we’ll go back to Instagram and new posts there. You’ll find out what I’m reading for next week’s book review (just look for the #bookreviewpreview with the post) among other bits and pieces of my writing and non-writing life. Find older posts with my handle, @EktaRGarg, or visit my Facebook author page.
In the meantime, take care of each other and then yourselves, readers!

Book review now up!
Hello, Write Edge readers! I’ve posted my latest book review for you. Here’s the opening to my thoughts on The Night Shift by Alex Finlay:
Two crimes committed more than a decade apart bear a striking resemblance to one another. As the FBI and local law enforcement try to solve the case, those who survived will have to decide whether they can live with their secrets or share them to spare the next possible victim. Author Alex Finlay sets up a mostly believable scenario that leaves loose ends in his second book The Night Shift.

Doubling down for the last day of February
Happy last day of February, Write Edge readers! It’s hard to believe we’re going to turn the page on the calendar tomorrow morning. Before that happens, though, I wanted to make sure I fit in everything I promised for these last few days of the month.
First, this week’s content. Today is the last Monday of the month, which means our monthly writers’ showcase. Check out what pieces made me sit up straight in my chair during February, including what I think is a lovely homage to Shirley Jackson and a short story that gives you all the feels. Find those pieces on The Write Edge Writing Workshop!
In the middle of the week, I’ll share a brand new book review with you. If you check out my Instagram today (yes, on a Monday!) you’ll see the #bookreviewpreview for this week’s novel. For those of you who don’t have Instagram, I’ll be reviewing The Night Shift by Alex Finlay. You’ll see that on Wednesday on The Write Edge Bookshelf!
At the end of the week I’ll go back to Instagram with new posts, but I’ve also posted some pictures today for all the things I should have posted on Friday. Also, a bonus: I’ve posted last week’s Growth Chart too. Here’s an excerpt of that:
Thirteen and Ms. P. have a standing appointment for every Thursday afternoon, and, funny enough, this makes me feel more like Thirteen is growing up than the thought of graduation does.
