Kickstarter: Comics Uniting Nations
I have the great privilege to write an ocean-related story for a comics project that the United Nations is putting together. It's ambitious, and I'm very excited about it! There's a Kickstarter campaign to help with the overall funding of the project. And they are offering some sweet awards, like I've never seen before. Please check it and consider supporting it. Thanks!

Back on the air
…and radio silence ends!
Sorry for the lack of posts. I will do better.
March is super busy. Thanks to the PEN/Faulkner Foundation, I’m doing several chats and workshops at D.C. high schools. It’s a fantastic and rewarding experience.
Now, on March 14, we’re gonna blow the roof of the D.C. area with the 2015 Smudge Comics Arts Expo at Artisphere in Arlington, Va. It a full day of comics exhibitors, workshops, presentations, panel talks, cartoons, documentaries and freebies. And it’s FREE to get in. And it’s easy to get to (one block from Rosslyn Metro and validated garage parking). Seriously, you can’t go wrong!
Finally, on March 20 I’ll be on a panel at the Book Festival of Virginia discussing the loss of natural resources. If you’re in Charlottesville, stop by. I’ll give you a hug.

Sept. 27: Baltimore Book Fest
Going to the Baltimore Book Fest this Saturday, Sept. 27?
At noon, I'll be at the National Aquarium's Ocean Exploration Stage (Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, Area 10, between the National Aquarium and World Trade Center). talking about Wild Ocean and using comics to spread the word about conservation.
At 3 p.m. I'll be at the Charm City Comics Book Pavilion (Baltimore's Inner Harbor, Rash Field) with fellow comic booker Jason Rodriguez (editor of the upcoming Colonial Comics anthology), where we're gonna give examples of how schools and libraries are using comics in the classroom, from teaching English to bringing history to life.
Hope to see you there!

Aug. 23: 'Wild Ocean' discussion at Telegraph
Signing & Discussion with Matt Dembicki and Michael Cowgill
Telegraph in Charlottesville, Va., 5:00-8:00pm, Aug. 23
From the Facebook event page: "The world's oceans represent the last wild frontier on Earth. While our understanding of life in the ocean is relatively basic, our actions are putting hundreds of species in danger. In this new graphic anthology, Matt Dembicki, editor and artist of the award-winning Trickster and District Comics, explores the adventures of twelve iconic endangered sea animals: hawksbill turtle, bluefin tuna, hammerhead shark, giant clam, manatee, blue whale, coral, albatross, whale shark, monk seal, manta ray, and seahorse. Produced in cooperation with the non-profit PangeaSeed, these gripping stories instill a passion to conserve our magnificent sea creatures."
I'll be joined by contributing Wild Ocean writer Michael Cowgill and hopefully the University of Virginia professor who he interviewed for his story. Also, I'll have some original art from the anthology for view and purchase! (see below)

Art Enables article in Washington Post
The Washington Post has a wonderful article on Art Enables, a fantastic arts center in D.C. 'Wild Ocean' is lucky enough to have an exhibit there right now, so the original art featured in the gallery also got a plug.
