In today’s guest blog post which happens to be the final one of this blog tour, readers will be able to delve into the character that the Tales of the 23rd Trilogy revolves around. Behind The Character:
And last but not LEAST, detective Frank Lucas Matthews!!! Man, this guy was a hell of a character and a joy to create. I don’t want to sound like an extreme fan boy, but this guy was without question my favorite character that I’ve ever written and probably will be for the rest of my writing career.
There are many things about Matthews that jumps out at me in terms of his uniqueness. For one, he’s cold. Included within the Frank Matthews package are: insensitivity, mystique, humor, aggression, anger, hate, intolerance, and despair.
More importantly, when writing and developing his characteristics over time, I wanted him to have relatability, I wanted him to be a man of many internal and external conflicts. I wanted him to be flawed. I wanted him to be someone that the average reader could possibly relate to. If not personally, then extensively through average people that they encounter throughout their daily lives.
For Matthews and all of my other characters, that’s all I’ve ever wanted. Better yet, that’s all I really want. Therefore, as time presses forward and the third and final book within the series is all that remains, I feel very sad to know that the character won’t be physically present for the final installation of the series. However, will he be spiritually present? You can definitely count on it.

Dear Flowered Concrete Subscribers,
Our very own Kevin Eleven made his second consecutive appearance at the Brooklyn Book Festival this past weekend.
The author sold three copies of his latest works as both Tales of the 23rd Precinct as well as frankly TWISTED were available for purchase.
On hand for the event to aid the author in distributing and marketing his titles was Mia Hill, director of Public Relations & Marketing.
In addition, many festival goers seemed intrigued and impressed by the artwork of both novels even though they may not have purchased, many walked away with business cards and in great spirits after conversing with the author.
Going forward, the author was very appreciative in even being able to sell three of his novels and hopes that the people who took the time to speak to him will look into his literature and possibly spread the word about them…

Behind The Character:
Ron Mercer…man, I just don’t know where to start. Okay, so first and foremost, meet one of two men that tie a common thread into the entire series. This character was a lot of fun to write. Everything about him was not only intentional but purposeful. From the way he talked, to the way he went about handling business, and also the way he carried himself in each and every scene that he happened to appear in.
If there is anything I can say about Ron, it’s that he was probably the first character I thought of when I started writing the series. He was first mentioned in Misguided Justice as a foe and then again in Crossfires at 59th & Columbus, however, he didn’t physically appear until FRANKLY TWISTED, the final chapter in Tales of the 23RD Precinct. His role in frankly TWISTED: the lost files expanded, as I wanted him to be one of the orchestrators leading the plot and I feel as if he accomplished for the most part exactly what it was that he set out to do.
Although he won’t physically be able to appear in the final book of the series, I am sure that many or certain points within the next book’s plot will have strong ties to the man, Ron Mercer himself.

Behind The Character:
I wanted to provide balance to the 23rd precinct with some new blood or should we say old blood? Anyway…ENTER: Travis Williams. The detective has been in great standing within the 23rd Precinct for a very long time (so says the second book). However, I honestly didn’t get any idea of the character or even his inclusion within the series until frankly TWISTED.
As I expanded and developed my thoughts overtime for the second novel, I knew that I wanted to plug in another detective in there, however, I just didn’t know when and where I’d do it. Moreover, due to the enormous amount of youth within the department, I knew that I needed a detective that was polished, thorough, and seasoned in assisting of seeing all tasks through.
That was when I jotted down Travis Williams’ first appearance in Episode 2, A Lane on My Own. From there, I knew that I would organically work him in so that he would fit into the major scope of things and by the time I got to writing Episode 3, he most certainly did. Travis Williams was a joy to write, if not for anything, more so because of his sarcastic one-off responses and his old school charismatic flair.

Behind The Character:
For some reason, detective Alvin Alvin is still a mystery to me. For one, despite him being a really good cop and highly fashionable in style and appearance, there seems to be more beneath the surface that has yet to be uncovered. Many folks are probably wondering what on earth possessed me to name him Alvin Alvin.
For one, I thought it would be really funny to give him the same first and last name. Another reason as to why I named him this way is because I wanted to slightly trick readers into thinking that I had made a typo with his name.
However, when reading both Tales of the 23RD Precinct and as well as frankly TWISTED, readers can see that that is certainly not the case. Going forward, it will be interesting to see where exactly I take him as a character. For one thing, he will definitely have big shoes to fill due to the fact that he will be taking over as Captain of the 23rd precinct. Hopefully by then, we will get a better chance to see not only how he works and interacts with others, but also, go a bit in-depth within his personal life.

frankly TWISTED: the blog tour Week 5! (Meet Jake Fisher)
In today’s guest blog post, readers will be able to delve into someone that is considered a heel, however, at the same time this character is someone that is constantly fighting for his freedom as well as hoping for redemption and for a chance to be forgiven. This person happens to be none other than Jacob Fisher, the estranged brother of detective Luke Fisher of the 23rd Precinct. To learn more about him as well as his strong involvement within the plot of frankly TWISTED, be sure to check out my post below.

Behind The Character:
Jake Fisher was a character that was never supposed to exist as a living, breathing entity. When I first wrote Misguided Justice (Strangers, Brothers, Detectives) as a short-story before having it appear in Tales of the 23RD Precinct as part of the novel, Jake Fisher was certainly dead as he was the hot topic of the story as the plot revolved around finding his killer.
However, overtime, as I wanted to backtrack and give life and purpose to his brother’s (Jake Fisher) backstory, I knew that I needed to expand upon his existence while also displaying his relationship with his older brother.
Jake is without question an interesting character, he is also one that shows perseverance, as he overcame many of his obstacles to become a better person. Unfortunately, sometimes having such strong mischievous connections and links to the past can indubitably destroy any chances in having a future.

frankly TWISTED: the blog tour Week 4! (Meet Detective Luke Fisher)
In today’s guest blog post, readers will be able to delve into a very interesting character, one that provides balance within the entire realm of the BKPD, who happens to be none other than Detective Lucas “Luke” Fisher of the 23rd Precinct. To learn more about him as well as his strong involvement within the plot of frankly TWISTED, be sure to check out my post below.

Behind The Character
Lucas Fisher is one of those comedic relief characters. I mean his entire presence just brings forth a loose energy. His purpose is to lighten the mood within every scene that he finds himself in. As I was writing Tales of the 23rd Precinct, I knew that I needed a character that would provide some kind of balance to detective Lane’s relentless go-getter attitude and I figured someone like Luke who could not only provide that balance but also provide a great deal of chemistry would be ideal to the novel. And there you have it; just like that Luke Fisher rose from the ashes…
