LCFC Journal #1: “Life Comes From Concrete…”

DSC_0043editMy new poetry collection/memoir, Life Comes From Concrete has been four years in the making. Not originally planned, the book’s concept first came to mind back in the summer of July 2012.

At the time, I had started writing poetry and wasted no time in fully immersing myself into the art form. Prior to writing poems, I had only written stories based solely in fiction (detective-fiction more favorably).

Moreover, as I continued to build my poetry writing and honed my craft, I realized that I became adept to writing potent pieces that were not only introspective but filled with substance as well.

DSC_0129By the time 2013 came into view, I realized how much I had developed and grown as a writer/poet. Not only did my poetry speak upon the world around me and myself, but it eventually grew to become a point of perspective and representation for those whose lives had impacted mine or who I had come across at one point or another in time.

It wasn’t until the spring of that same year that the idea of the poetry book became very real. I figured that it would be a literature based representation of myself and what I had endured within my life up until that point.

Furthermore, by 2013’s end, I had fully concocted a selection of poems starting from 2012 that would speak upon my time as a teenager coming-of-age who found himself as a young man at the age of twenty-two.DSC_0062edit

To finalize the process, I then took the entire month of January in 2014 to provide back-stories for each piece and how they were created through various moments of inspiration. And it wasn’t until after the month ended when the book’s title came about while thinking of what to name it.

Overall, the point that I am making is that everyone who lives on earth has a path en route towards their destiny and in order for one to do so, they must walk their individual paths on concrete.

Thus, metaphorically speaking, Life Comes From Concrete is a very poetic way of saying, “journey”. And through this poetry collection, I want you all to accompany me on mine.

Yours Truly,

Kev Elev

“Life Comes From Concrete”: A Poetry Collection/Memoir

[Queens, NY – 5/2/16]

Author, actor, and poet, Kevin Anglade is releasing his debut poetry collection this summer. The book is called, Life Comes From Concrete and focuses on a transitional period he experienced from late adolescence to young adulthood. Throughout the work, Anglade undergoes a microscopic lens to evaluate himself, his surroundings and the society he lives in. The book is scheduled for publication this July.DSC_0049edit

Anglade is a poet and storyteller who paints lucid pictures as a result of experience and interaction with others. The collection Life Comes From Concrete touches upon a range of themes from love, poverty, social injustice, mass consumption, self-identity, and death.  The book aims to represent the lives of young black males that have experienced similar growing pains within crucial moments of becoming a young adult in American society.

Over the last few years or so, I have been working really hard on a big multi-media project. With that being said, I’d like to announce the revealing of Life Comes From Photography, Life Comes From “Destiny”: a docu-series/film and Life Comes From Concrete: A Poetry Collection/Memoir.

The idea behind this ambitious venture is to tell a unique and cohesive story about my personal experiences from adolescence through young adulthood using these mediums.

Please follow along over the next few months (if interested) as I take you down the path every step of the way.

More Coming Soon…

Dear Flowered Concrete Followers,

One year ago today, Flowered Concrete’s Kevin Anglade (CEO/Founder) embarked upon a three week poetry workshop at Cambria Heights Library that combined both poetry and performance.

This year, the company has been fortunate enough to sustain the partnership from the Queens Library as we have built relationships with many of the library branches throughout the calendar year.

Our programs consist of teens/pre-teens as we lead them in workshops that will enhance and strengthen their creative writing and illustration chops through poetry, creative writing and drawing.

For each library that we worked with, we focused on the specific talents of the adolescents in attendance in order to cater to their needs when creating.

Below, is a list of the libraries that we worked at this year and a summary of the program itself:

Dear Flowered Concrete Followers,

We’d like to announce that we here at Flowered Concrete have paid the registration fee and will be OFFICIALLY exhibiting at the inaugural Queens Book Festival in June 2016! Although a date hasn’t been set as of yet, this is still something to be quite happy and excited about as this will be Flowered Concrete’s first participation in a book festival or literary convention of any kind.

Moreover, we would once again like to thank all of those that donated this past spring to aid our mission to not only paying the registration fees but understanding our vision which is to educate and entertain the masses through vibrant literature.

In addition to that, we’d also to express our gratitude to those same people and also those that have been supportive of us due to the postponement of the festival as it was supposed to happen a…
