System Update: 1.5
Life Comes From Concrete has been an amazing experience thus far. The book has allowed me to share my thoughts, words, wisdom and knowledge. However, looking ahead, there is still more work to be done as I am ready to share some of the more personal moments that I have rarely expressed within the last six years. Moreover, as a man, I’ve often found it to be hard in sharing the things that I’ve witnessed and endured within my lifetime. Who knows. Maybe it’s a pride thing. And to be completely honest, I don’t have the answers to this human flaw. The only thing I’m certain of is that my only solace when it comes to professing my truth takes shape in the form of writing. And with that being said, I would like to share this truth with you all.

LCFC Journal #2: “To Rise & Fall in July”
For some reason, I happen to love the month of July. If you were to ask me, “why so?” I honestly wouldn’t be able to provide you with an exact answer. However, there are many reasons as to why I love it. Growing up as a kid, July meant the official start of summer and that school was no longer a lingering concern.
July was when you really got a chance to have fun without a care in the world. The warm weather attached to it is a plus depending on what region or geographic location you come from.
But there is something about the month in an existential way that resonates with me. Maybe it’s because I find it to be calm, soothing, mysterious and unique. Every time I experience it, I really feel at peace.
The photographs displayed within this post were taken in July 2014. I was twenty-three at the time and my goal behind the shoot was to have some great visuals to display my connection to the month as well as my youth at large. This is exactly why I am publishing the book at this very moment. Because every time I experience it, I’m instantly transported to a place of familiarity and comfort.
With July, I feel as if I can always go back to being that kid who had a blast going to amusement parks, barbecues and parties.
Lastly, during this month the sun is immense and active as it is visibly present within the atmosphere and hovers above throughout the day just before descending into its shell.
For these reasons I will always adore and have love for July, also known as my favorite month of the year.

From new kicks,
To new friends,
First kiss and fist fights,
Early mornings and late nights,
This is what shapes a boy to stand straight.
From listening to Pops speak,
To hearing pops down the streets,
Learning gang signs and handshakes,
Shaking the hand of your first boss,
This is what shapes a boy to be well rounded.
From Music videos,
To Surreal vision,
Amateur hour and all star weekend,
Being full without homies eatin
This is what shapes a boy to keep moving.
From OutKast
To Wu-Tang
Roasting sessions and lunch cyphers
Hidden talents and talent shows
This is what shapes a boy to stand out.
From Funerals
To Graduation
Becoming “My brother’s keeper” and losing a friend
Getting left alone and finding yourself
This is the shaping of a boy.
