Please Stop Whining!

“Please stop whining!” I exclaimed to my handicapped ministry dog Gracie.

The Holy Spirit used her whining to bring something to my attention – and to give me this message for those reading it.

Gracie rarely whines, but there is someone who has whined far too much through the years and who can easily fall into it if she is not careful. Me.

I have been prone to negativity, complaining, self-pity, a bad attitude, being critical, and whining since I was a kid. And this is all SIN against God.

Frien...

Don’t Be a Coward!

Know what I bet the devil loves? Cowards! People who cower! People he can intimidate! People he can convince that they can’t serve God, shouldn’t serve God, that they’ll fail in serving God, etc.! People who crawl under the covers of their beds and hide from the life God has planned for them! People who cower when facing obstacles and become paralyzed with fear instead of trusting in God and finding victory in Him! People who fall for the devil’s lies and get stuck in fear and worry and can’t fi...

Serving God on God’s Terms

You and I are commanded to love and serve the Lord with all our hearts, and doing so is to be on HIS TERMS not on ours.

Serving the Lord is to come from a heart filled with love and devotion to Him and is to be in obedience to HIS WILL for HIS GLORY.

We are not to serve God out of obligation with a bad attitude and a desire to simply check something off a list and get our service to Him over and done with. We are to “serve the Lord with gladness (Psalm 100:2)” and to serve Him with passion and f...

Are You Really Saved?

Periodically people tell me they are afraid they are not really saved. In other words, they question whether God has forgiven their sins, they are saved from God’s wrath, death, hell, and the lake of fire forever apart from Him, and promised everlasting life with Him. I have seen three main reasons people question their salvation, and there is only one answer to it all.

First, some people call themselves Christians but are not truly saved.

Second, some people are saved but are listening to the d...

You Can’t Earn Eternity

Everlasting life is real. It really exists. But one day this world will not. It will be gone. We will have a new heavens and a new earth, and we will not live on this earth any longer. We will live forever, however. We will not merely be buried in the earth or tossed as ashes into the sea, on a mountaintop, or wherever we desire our bodily remains to go. We will live forever with the Lord in His new heavens and earth, what we ordinarily call heaven, or we will live in forever torment in hell and...

I Stopped Planning My Life

I Stopped Planning My Life

Are you a planner? Have your life planned out? A 5-year plan? 10-year plan? Retirement plan? Career plan for the next decade? Planned what the next 6 months will look like? Planned your vacations for the next few years? Written your plans down on paper? On your computer? Tucked it away in your mind? Mulled it over and again and have it all straight now? Figured it all out? What your future will look like? What you will do with your life from now forward?

Friend, I stop...

God’s Pruning Shears

I am not a gardener and never will be. I don’t have the desire, definitely not the patience, don’t have the time what with my life being devoted 24-7 to the Lord and ministry, and am the polar opposite of some of my friends who would give just about anything to be digging their hands in the dirt, pulling up weeds, planting, oh, yes, back to the weeding, no more weeds, now over to those bushes, too thick, need pruning, over to the shears, recently sharpened, back to the bushes, prune, prune, prun...

A Warning About Giving

Long ago, well before the Lord called me to start a ministry, when I was just beginning to learn about loving and serving the Lord and others, I was excited to have the opportunity to pay for a one-night motel stay for a homeless man. The next night, the man wanted another night! What would I do? I went to my beloved pastor who had a great deal of experience ministering to those in extreme need. His advice was simple.

“Use wisdom.”

I came over time to see God’s followers are to love, to give, to...

This is NOT the Truth!

The devil’s lies are NOT truth. They are LIES! The devil in his three-fold mission to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10) deceives (Revelation 12:9), lies (John 8:44), and accuses (Revelation 12:10) among numerous other horrific, heinous, and wicked antics. Trouble is if we’re not careful, we listen to his lies, believe his lies, and base our thoughts, feelings, words, and actions on his lies rather than on God’s truth as He teaches us in His Word and as He speaks to our hearts by His Spirit w...
