THE ORVILLE Review....on Twitter!

Last night, I caught the premiere of The Orville, Seth McFarlane's science fiction drama/comedy, on Fox. I also decided to live tweet with the intention of writing a full blog post. Having reconsidered, I am posting the Storify of the tweets because...well, it's funnier. Enjoy!

Poetry Corner: "Outrunning the Void"

New Bookshelves 04

And now, for a possible semi-regular feature on the blog....I've been writing a lot more poetry lately. Mostly, it's been to work through my feelings, whether literally or (mostly) in metaphor. I've also been submitting my work to various literary magazines...with little luck.

So anything that doesn't get published professionally, I'm posting to the blog. At the very least, it will have a home amongst the other things that I write. Of course, I'm not quite sure that poetry fits amongst the mo...

Happy 100th Birthday, Jack Kirby!

Jack Kirby Says it All
Once, long ago and far away, this used to be a comics blog. And we're returning to our roots, celebrating the 100th birthday of Jack "King" Kirby!

That's pretty much it...other than that, I have nothing.++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Life Behind the Keyboard: Writing My First Novel

After four months of work, I'm finishing up the final draft of my first novel - 60,000 words - for submission this weekend. And as much as I would like to say that it's been a joy....

...it hasn't. It's actually been a bit of a rollercoaster.

Writing this novel has been a challenge - not in terms of enthusiasm, but mostly in terms of balancing writing with various other challenges. Taking care of a sick parent, maintaining freelance work while trying to seek further work, and then a tricky emot...

THE SPIDER VS THE EMPIRE STATE: Reading Pulp in the Age of Trump

In short, The Spider VS. The Empire State...reads like a great, action oriented, heavy firepower version of It Can't Happen Here. And that's the greatest compliment I can give it.
Sometimes, context is everything...I'm writing this in the aftermath of what went down in Charlottesville, VA....

...and for some reason, The Spider VS. The Empire State: The Complete Black Police Trilogy[image error] feels a bit too raw, too real, for me to process.

After all, the premise - a criminal gets elected to become g...

Twitter Thread Re:Caregiving

Things are quiet...relatively speaking. But while I'm enjoying the quiet by catching up on freelance work (and seeking new work), here's a little Twitter thread about caregiving.
Because I don't want to write a whole blog post about it. Enjoy!

And now, a subject close to home - #caregiving for an adult parent. Background -

Twitter Threads: My Semi-Substitute for Blogging

One of the habits that I developed during my sojourn from blogging is mastering the art of the "Twitter thread".

That's right - I went back to my Twitter account after a long sojourn.

Thankfully, there was a nice change of pace - rather than 1,000s of tweets about social media marketing (which is part of my professional skill set), but now there were 1,000s of tweets about more politically and socially-minded issues...which is kind of why I joined Twitter.

(Well, that and there wasn't much...
