What's Gordon Working On?

Toughbook 12/20/2017

Back in December, I outlined my writing and project docket for this first quarter of 2018. Even though we're less than a month into the New Year, I thought I would post an update into what I've accomplished...as well as some additional projects and to-do stuff because, let's face it, I have to stay accountable.
First, my panel proposals for C2E2, Oak Lawn Public Library Fan Fest, and DePaul Pop Culture Celebration have all been submitted, so now comes the waiting game....I set up a Ko-Fi page...

2017 in Review

gordon.dymowski_full
It's a little something I do every year: review the blog, pull random posts, and insert quotes. It's a great way to build SEO, as well as have fun...and yes, I've done it for One Cause At A Time as well.

And now, here we go...

January
- (Think of it as the 24 of the 1930s, only in written form and much less Kiefer Sutherland)

February - First, here's the deal - you don't own the franchise you love.

March - Because being a caregiver can be terribly isolating, and I just need to connect with anothe...

Finding Gratitude For Christmas

I hate to admit this in a public forum....but my Christmas spirit died years ago.

To put it bluntly, there were too many traumatic life events that color my perception of Christmas. Maybe it started with the Eugene-OR-to-St-Louis move that was prompted by a failed relationship...or losing an unrequited love to a fiance...or one aunt visiting the emergency room, leading to her death by ovarian cancer six months later...or losing another aunt in a car accident two years ago...

Let's just say that...

Net Neutrality and Donna Noble - In the Same Week

Here are two - count them, two - opportunities to catch me live and in person. (Actually, one's in person - one is on terrestrial radio).

First, you've already read about this in Chicago Now's One Cause At A Time, but this Monday from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm I will be making an appearance on Radio Islam on WCEV (1450 AM). We'll be discussing Net Neutrality - obviously, that's a topic near and dear to my heart (if you're following me on Twitter and Facebook), and I'm always happy to advocate fo...

My 2018 Writing & Project Docket

I think I can say, with some confidence...that my non-blog non-freelance writing for 2018 is over. Much of it has been the sheer number of words I wrote (two novellas plus a short novel and two academic papers equal over 90,000 words, and that's not including a six-page comic story for a benefit book that's yet to be published), but much of it is that the muse seems to have left me...

...or more to the point, I'm just plain tired. (And yes, there are people I consider my "muses". They can cont...

Sharpening My Online Profile

Now that Thanksgiving is over and we're on our way towards Christmas (and other holidays), I thought it would be a great opportunity to highlight some of my other online appearances. (Plus, it would allow me to build my search presence, since Blogger auto-posts to Google Plus, enhancing search optimization).

Yes, I can throw around online marketing buzzwords, why do you ask?

First, pre-Chicago TARDIS I had a hot streak writing for Chicago Now's One Cause At a Time , ending with a piece on "thoug...

Emotions Are Tricky, Aren't They?

Beverly Library
It's been over six months since the move, and quite honestly...feeling OK with the status quo feels like a pipe dream. Granted, living in the dumpster fire/train wreck mashup that we call "the Trump Presidency" can be challenging...but for me, everything has felt like bad fan fiction. I've been trying my best to keep relatively sane in the midst of everything.  Especially since the past few months have meant dealing with some tricky emotions...and backing away from certain commitments

On...

Happy Thanksgiving and Doctor Who Day!

First, I wanted to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving...and while you're at it, watch Doctor Who.

Especially since this weekend, I'll be working the Chicago TARDIS Charity Auction. If you want to donate, head to http://bit.ly/ChiTARDISAuction (be sure to note "Chicago TARDIS 2017" in the comments section)

Where Stories Come From: COVER OF NIGHT (AKA THE SINNER)

Sometimes, writing can be therapeutic. And AKA The Sinner: Cover Of Night, which serves as the debut of Nathaniel Brigand in Pro Se Productions' Thriller of the Week series, is a great example.

Events and themes were percolating in my head: recent arguments in "support" of white supremacy groups in Charlottesville, a hashtag reacting to a news item about casting Asian actors, and some nostalgia for my "good old days..."

...and then Tommy had proposed a new series of novellas: a "Thriller o...
