“Christmas, my child, is love in action. Every time we love, every time we give, it’s Christmas.” — Dale Evans

A week before Christmas, Jeseca Reed sets off for Blue River, Oregon—her childhood home and a vault of tender memories. However, fate takes an unexpected turn when she’s left stranded in the mountains’ vast, untamed wilderness. Desperate and alone, she seeks shelter at a cottage and finds herself in the arms of a mysterious stranger.

Dr. David Drake was once a renowned cardiovascular surgeon. But a devastating tragedy has left him scarred both inside and out, unable to use his hands to operate again. For the past five years, his Blue River cottage has been his sole escape—a safe haven where he can shut out the world, bury himself in his grief, and reunite with his son’s memory.

Together they are summer and winter. Fire and ice. And yet a poignant connection forms between them. Jeseca awakens David and thaws his heart with a romance hot enough to melt snow. But before David and Jeseca can fully embrace each other, they must wade through darkness and confront the ghosts of their pasts …

Equal parts steamy and heartfelt, A Kindled Winter brings the spirit of the holidays to life with a passionate story of second chances and healing love.

Excerpt

David’s enchanting voice swelled the darkness, surrounding Jeseca, gripping onto her senses with a thousand beckoning fingers. They held her captive—and she readily surrendered her freedom.

“We’re like day and night. Summer and winter. Fire and ice. And yet something about you whispers my name and echoes inside me …” His mouth found her pulse point. Damp, hot lips nibbled on her skin and sent her wits reeling. “You should have never come in here. It was a mistake.”

“Then tell me to leave and I’ll go,” she replied through a breathy whisper. Her voice sounded thick with desire, hoarse … she hardly recognized it as her own. “And I don’t believe we’re complete opposites,” she said, her words husky and guttural. “I think the real you is hiding.”

Impenetrable silence took hold. Only the howling wind and David’s heavy breathing breached the quiet.

“Should I leave?”

More silence. “No. I need you … I need you to stay with me.” The words emerged from the darkness and wrapped around Jeseca’s heart with the force of a lasso.

He plunged a hand beneath the bathrobe, which had fallen halfway open, and a jarring whoosh of air slammed against her skin. His tongue swirled along her collarbone, branding her flesh with slick, wet shapes. Her heart hammered, and she clutched at the bedsheet as his mouth ventured lower … lower … skirting across the V-line of her plush pajama top. Then his fingers were working the buttons, quickly undoing them and sweeping the soft material aside. Cold air tightened her naked breasts, causing gooseflesh to prickle her skin.

“Stop me if I’m going too fast,” he breathed against her.

Yes, she should stop him. This was wrong. Totally wrong. Instead, all rational thought melted away and she found herself arching against his mouth and tongue. She wanted more—not less. And she wanted him to go faster—not slower …

Kellynch: Sequel To Jane Austen’s Persuasion by Kwen Griffith book review

26183631

Jane Austen completed “Persuasion” in August 1816. It was to be her last book. She left us with the story of Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth and she left them approaching “happily ever after.” What happens the day following “happily ever after?”

The story of Kellynch picks up three years after the couple married and were able to secure the Kellynch estate from Sir Walter and Cousin William Elliot agreed to waive the entailment.

It would seem all is well with the young couple, but all is not as it seems.

Kellynch is a story of deceit and treachery as well as courage and overcoming the odds. It is a story in which those who were assumed to be friends are not and where support comes from unexpected places. Love again, will, be tested in a story set against the backdrop of historical events.

Throughout the book, I have tried to remain true to the characters as Miss Austen created them. I sought to develop and introduce new characters that would meet with her approval.

My thoughts:

There are several books out there that try to be like Pride & Prejudice.  I was surprised when I was contacted by the author to read Kellynch based off Persusaion.  I jumped right into the read.
All seems well for Anne and Wentworth until he has to go see Elliot about the estate.  Anne has her own problems with feeling unloved at the moment with no child and Wentworth leaving.
Wentworth has to go back to sea to try and save Kellynch as Elliot was not a great cousin as we thought.
While he is gone rumors start around that he has left Anne of course her rather and sister show up to support her.  Thankfully Anne knows best and tries to carry on.
Can Wentworth save Kellynch and his marriage?

The author does a good job trying to stay true to JA.  The book was fun to read and was read in one sitting.

I was given this book by the author for an honest review.

Chapter

One

“Edie! Get yer ass in

here!” The gravelly voice rang out in the small house.
Huyana froze and held

her breath. The knife she’d been using to chop carrots slipped from her grasp

and clattered onto the tabletop. She hugged her slim waist and listened

carefully for sounds of movement.
Nothing.
Yet.
Had William Montgomery

gone back to sleep? She hoped so. If he was asking for his wife then he was

going to have one of his bad days and therefore the longer he rested, the

better. At least if he woke later, she would have company to help her deal with

him. Even with all her experience of people, the old man’s sudden fluctuations

from joy to anger to confusion still unsettled her and she’d prefer to have

someone else nearby.
Someone like Matthew

Duggan?
She shrugged away the

thought. In the short space of time in which she’d known the handsome cowboy,

she’d seen only good in him. He’d been kind, helpful and attentive, even coming

to find her in Virginia City, where she’d been employed as a maid, to offer her

the post as carer to William Montgomery. Not that other folks were hammering down

the Duggans’ door to get the position, of course. But Matthew knew that her

employer was leaving town and Huyana would soon be without an income. Matthew

had suggested that his older brother, Kenan, offer Huyana the job. And mighty

glad she was about it too. At first. But now she knew how hard it was caring

for William Montgomery alone, she wondered if she’d made the right decision.
But of course she had.

What other choice did she have? With her circumstances and her questionable

background, what else could she expect to do? Whore? Beg? Steal? The choices

for a mixed-race woman were limited indeed. Besides, it meant that she got to

see Matthew Duggan regularly, even if she did clam up like a sixteen-year-old

maiden every time he stepped over the threshold.
“Edie!”
Huyana jumped. She’d

have to go check on William. He was clearly distressed. His wife had been in

the ground just over a month. Sometimes he remembered this clearly, but at

other times, he still thought she was alive and well. A wave of sympathy washed

over Huyana. She knew what it was to love and lose someone and William deserved

her compassion. The poor man was dealing with his raw grief in his moments of

lucidity. Healing would likely take him longer than the average person because

he wasn’t experiencing the heartache constantly with its full ferocity.

Instead, it came in agonizing bursts, then, as if his mind was protecting him,

he regressed to his confused state and forgot all about Edie’s death until the

next lucid period. It was like a slow form of torture, and Huyana wished on a

daily basis that she could do something to alleviate William’s pain and

anguish.
Huyana scooped up the

carrots from the flat wooden chopping board and dropped them into a bowl then

wiped her hands on her apron. She crossed the room and stood outside the door

of William’s bedroom then rapped her knuckles against the wood.
“You all right in

there, Mr. Montgomery?”
“Who in the hell is

that?”
Huyana shivered as she

heard the confusion in William’s tone.
“It’s me, Mr. Montgomery.

Huyana. Your help.”
“Say what?” His voice

was closer now, as if he muttered with his lips pressed against the wooden

boards of the door. Huyana slowly unlocked the door and took a step back. The

lock was a precautionary measure that the Duggans had insisted upon to prevent

William from wandering off during the night when Huyana slept or when she was

outside in the yard. “Who’s ya say yer?”
“Huyana.” Her own name

tripped off her lips as it had done thousands of times before, but this time it

filled her with dread because she feared his reaction.
“What in the hell kind

of a name is that?”
The door swung inward

and Huyana braced herself as William Montgomery staggered out into the main

room of the house. He reminded her of an acorn calf, all unsteady on his legs

and wary of his surroundings. Huyana winced as his stale smell reached her

nostrils. She had only washed him last evening with Catherine Duggan’s help but

it seemed that the old man had pissed his bed again. She’d left the pot right

next to his bed in plain view, but unfortunately he didn’t always think to use

it. At times, the floor and his undergarments seemed to serve him just as well.
Like an animal.
No.
Like a child. A poor

helpless infant who sometimes doesn’t know right from wrong.
William stared around

the room as if seeing it for the first time. He squinted against the September

morning light that seeped through the small windows and warmed the floorboards.

He eyed the fire that burned in the grate suspiciously, as if wondering how it

had gotten there. His face held the look of a lost child as he scratched his

matted gray hair, and Huyana’s heart broke for him.

It was going to be a

bad day.

Molly Ann Wishlade has always been an avid reader

and writer of stories. Her lifetime of reading has taken her from the magical

worlds of The Faraway Tree and The Borrowers, to the Greek myths and legends,

to Sweet Valley High and Judy Blume’s Forever, to Asimov’s science fiction,

Jane Eyre’s torment and Stephen King’s masterpieces. More recently she has

wandered through the vivid historicals of Philippa Gregory; the bubbly, gritty

delights of Adele Parks and the fast paced thrillers of James Patterson. She

loves getting lost in a novel and often regrets finishing one as the characters

are usually missed like old friends. She regularly indulges her insatiable

hunger for romance and passion in the delicious worlds created by romantic

novelists and is working on several of her own!

What precious spare time she has is spent with her

family (one gorgeous husband and two bright and beautiful children), taking

long walks around the beautiful Welsh countryside (although she’s still waiting

for the rescue greyhound she wants to accompany her), cooking her own secret

recipe curries, drinking Earl Grey (in copious amounts) and discovering

delicious wines. Oh, and she also loves to ski and can’t wait to go again! And

buying shoes!
She wants to take readers on the rollercoaster that

is life through the creation of her own characters, relationships and worlds.

She appreciates feedback, recipes and wine

recommendations.

Zoe Hopkins – 2 Balance Bracelets Silicone Beaded Blue & White, with Elegant Blue Velvet Pouch

IMG_3705

It was a pleasure to review this product for Zoe.

I received two bracelets white and blue.  I kept the white one and gave my son the blue one.  It is a great reminder that we need balance in life.  We can’t handle all negativity or all good you have to have 50/50  in life.

When you feel low you have a reminder to keep hope in your heart and keep on with your dreams.  When things are going great it helps to remind yourself to stay humble and realize things can happen and to enjoy what you have.

We have been enjoying the bracelets since we received them a few days ago.  They are easy to find on Amazon and the price is great.  Be sure to get your bracelets.

More Than One Night (Heroes of the Night #1) by Nicole Leiren, Review

Right now on Amazon 99 cents…

25963852

The Few. The Strong. The Brave.

Melodie Alexander, a children’s librarian, prefers to live life between the pages of a book. But when the death of her best friend prompts her to step out of her comfort zone, she finds herself directly in the path of self-proclaimed bad boy, Daniel Bresland.

Daniel knew how to be a solider. Life after war? Not as easy. He served his country in Afghanistan, both in the military and as a private contractor, but fighting the war came at high personal cost. Now he’s determined to keep his relationships “casual” in order to protect his heart and prevent anyone from getting too close.

A chance encounter between Melodie and Daniel on a flight to Dallas proves that opposites really do attract. But when scars from the past threaten their new relationship almost before it starts, Daniel must decide if he can risk opening his heart again to convince Melodie he wants more than one night.

File Size: 1556 KB
Print Length: 231 pages
Simultaneous Device Usage: Unlimited
Publisher: Gemma Halliday Publishing (September 27, 2015)
Publication Date: September 27, 2015

My thoughts:

What a great book. If you want a gipping tell of love this is the book for you.  People can relate to both characters. Melodie loves books, and Daniel had issues opposites that they are come together.

They meet on a plane- poor Melodie getting away from her family and the loss of her finance.  Daniel has survivor guilt from the war. They are attracted to each other and they each pull away when things get a little hot or uncomfortable for them.  They start to realize they need each other and slowly start a relationship but can they trust each other to work out their issues?

The author does a wonderful job of not making this a jump into romance like some of the other books.  It wasn’t too slow going either it was just right.  You want to turn the pages faster and faster to see what happens between the two.

A great read looking forward to the next book.
