Justice by Pie: the Devious Doings of Daisy

Looking for some way to enjoy the new year? Love reading books? (Why else are you on this site?) Check out some Bookish Ways to Celebrate the New Year for some ideas to make 2023 extra special.
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme. Read the rules and more teasers at The Purple Booker. Anyone can play along.
If you are a big ready of cozy mysteries, this book may completely turn your expectations on their heads. Magic, Lies, and Deadly Pies, Misha Popp’s debut book, will shock readers.
What’s so different about protagonist Daisy Ellery? How about the fact that she makes murder pies? She creates deadly pies with a sinister purpose—to do away with men who abuse women. Her Pie Girl brand is a cover for her underground business, Pies Before Guys, her own little Murder, Inc., where she creates and distributes murder pies to take out the abusers.
In this first book in the series, Daisy’s organization has been infiltrated by someone with his own plans of revenge. He wants to send murder pies to three women under threat of revealing Daisy’s dastardly doings. It is up to Daisy to figure out who is blackmailing her and how to ensure the safety of the women.
I am enjoying this book quite a big, but can’t figure out why Daisy keeps locking up her pit bull to keep him away from the action while she goes out to investigate intruders in the dark by herself, armed with only a rolling pin.
“That looks amazing,” he says.
Misha Popp, Magic, Lies, and Deadly Pies
“It’s to die for.”

Daisy Ellery’s pies have a secret ingredient: The magical ability to avenge women done wrong by men. But Daisy finds herself on the receiving end in Misha Popp’s cozy series debut, a sweet-as-buttercream treat for fans of Ellery Adams and Mary Maxwell.
The first time Daisy Ellery killed a man with a pie, it was an accident. Now, it’s her calling. Daisy bakes sweet vengeance into her pastries, which she and her dog Zoe deliver to the men who’ve done dirty deeds to the town’s women. But if she can’t solve the one crime that’s not of her own baking, she’ll be out of the pie pan and into the oven.
Parking her Pies Before Guys mobile bakery van outside the local diner, Daisy is informed by Frank, the crusty diner owner, that someone’s been prowling around the van—and not just to inhale the delectable aroma. Already on thin icing with Frank, she finds a letter on her door, threatening to reveal her unsavory secret sideline of pie a la murder.
Blackmail? But who whipped up this half-baked plot to cut a slice out of Daisy’s business? Purple-haired campus do-gooder Melly? Noel, the tender—if flaky—farm boy? Or one of the abusive men who prefer their pie without a deadly scoop of payback?
The upcoming statewide pie contest could be Daisy’s big chance to help wronged women everywhere…if she doesn’t meet a sticky end first. Because Daisy knows the blackmailer won’t stop until her business is in crumbles.

Celebrate the New Year with Books and Reading

Well, the clock has chimed midnight, the bell has rung, the ball has dropped, and we have been launched into 2023. So let’s talk about some bookish ways to celebrate the new year. Forget about wild parties and loud music and think about a get together where you swap books or settling into a comfy nook to read the evening away.
What are some of the ways that you might make books part of your new year or the new year part of your reading?
Reading resolutionsGoodreads hosts a reading challenge every year. If you want to set a goal for the number of books you would like to read, Goodreads will keep track of them and let you know when you have met your reading goal.
As of the day of writing this post, 2.408.157 people have joined the Goodreads reading challenge, with an average of 44 books pledged. Maybe you would aim for more than that number, maybe fewer. Setting and writing down your goal is a good incentive to complete it. And if you’re reading my blog, chances are, you love to read. (Why else are you here?)
You can also set up a Goodreads shelf of books to be read in 2023, with the top 12 (or more) books you plan to read.
Books about making resolutionsI have written before about some of my favourite books about goal setting or planning for a new year. It’s not too late to start now!
And if you are looking for a calendar or planner, check out my Calgary park themed offerings:
Invite friends, family, or coworkers to join you in reading and discussing a specific book or set of books. This can be a great way to connect with others and explore new ideas.
Donate booksConsider donating books to a local library, school, or community center. This is a great way to give back and share the joy of reading with others. Or maybe there is a Little Free Library in your neighbourhood. Some of them are registered through the Little Free Library website. Give some and get some!
Throw a literary-themed partyHost a book swap: Invite guests to bring a book they love and are willing to trade with others. Set up a table for the books and let guests choose a new one to take home.Plan a book club party: Invite guests to come prepared to discuss a specific book or set of books. You could also provide snacks and drinks that are mentioned in the book to add to the theme.Set up a reading room: Create a cozy and comfortable space for guests to relax and read. You could also provide blankets, pillows, and other cozy touches to make it feel like a literary retreat.Play literary trivia: Create a list of trivia questions about classic literature and divide guests into teams to see who knows the most about books.Have a book character costume party: Encourage guests to dress up as their favorite book characters. This can be a fun and creative way to celebrate literature.Host a poetry night: Invite guests to bring their favorite poems to share, or have a poetry open mic night where anyone can read their own work.Read a Book Centered Around New Year’s Eve/DayI couldn’t think of a lot of New Year’s themed mystery books, but I have managed to dig a few up for you.
The first book in my Zachary Goldman Mysteries private investigator series has a timeline that runs from December through January, with a major event taking place on New Year’s Eve.
@media screen and (min-width:768px){.stk-8fd7e47{flex:1 1 calc(66.7% - var(--stk-column-gap,0px) * 1 / 2 ) !important}}She Wore Mourning
A dead child.
A mother deep in mourning.
Private Investigator Zachary Goldman’s life isn’t all roses, but he tries to put his own shattered life behind him to investigate the death of five-year-old Declan Bond.
Declan’s death has been ruled an accident, but his grandmother thinks there is more to it. She fears Declan’s mother will not be able to find peace until Zachary can give them an answer once and for all. But as Zachary digs into the circumstances surrounding Declan’s death, he finds that all is not as it seems, and somebody doesn’t want him to find the truth.
Psychologically complex and gripping … Zachary must deal with his own psychological issues as well as those of the child’s parents along with attempts on his life. I’m binge reading this series.
Zachary Goldman, Private Investigator, is flawed with a capital F. Shattered by the tragedies of his own life, he will somehow still manage to pick himself up and dig just a little bit deeper than anyone else to find the vital clues.
Maybe being broken makes it easier for others who have faced tragedy to trust him. Walk with Zachary as he solves cases that will stretch his abilities to the limit.
Even with his own life in shambles, Zachary Goldman is still the one you want on the case.
Investigate this P.I. mystery now!

Elizabeth has won mother/daughter winter makeovers in Manhattan from Jolie magazine! But the all-expenses-paid trip is bound to have some hidden costs–and one of them is murder. . .
After finally arriving at the offices of Jolie, meeting their fellow makeover candidates, and being treated to a fashion show, Elizabeth is enamored of the extreme outfits and stick-thin models–while Lucy’s having some misgivings. The pampering is nice and the glitz and glamour of haute couture is bizarrely fascinating, but bitterness and aggression lurk behind Jolie’s hipper-than-thou façade. And things turn downright ugly when self-absorbed fashion editor Nadine Nelson falls mysteriously ill and then dies. . .
Lucy saw first-hand some of the backstabbing going on at Jolie. And the red-hot rumor mill soon reveals that the cliquish connection among the magazine’s cabal of high-style executives has stirred up plenty of bad blood over the years. But this Manhattan murder mystery hits too close to home when Elizabeth gets rushed to the hospital with symptoms that are disturbingly similar to Nadine’s. Now, it’s up to Lucy to dress down a killer before the ball drops in Times Square. . .

Capt. M. L. Heimrich of the New York State Police may not have the flash of hard-boiled city detectives, but there’s no lead the intrepid investigator won’t follow until his every hunch is satisfied . . .
A New Year’s Eve party should be filled with champagne, laughter, and the good company of others. And the Halley’s celebration at their country house is exactly that. But the next day has barely dawned when a shocking discovery begins the new year with a dreadful bang.
Psychologist Margaret Halley is convinced her depressed husband drowned himself in the lake. But why would a man intent on suicide walk through a hundred yards of deep snow to jump into a freezing lake when there was a bottle of sleeping pills next to his bed?
As Captain Heimrich investigates the Halleys—and their guests—he has a sinking feeling that someone must have sent John Halley to his watery grave.

A dozen murders and counting—and any one of them could lead a Chicago attorney to a hotheaded female tycoon.
It’s 11:59 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and criminal lawyer John J. Malone is nursing his blues in a Chicago dive bar. He’s been two-timed by his inamorata and abandoned by his favorite gumshoe partners, crime reporter Jake Justus and socialite Helene Brand, for their Bermuda honeymoon. But Malone’s not lonely for long. Suddenly, a stranger staggers into the bar, calls out the attorney’s name, and drops dead—stabbed in the back. In his possession is a key that could unlock the cold heart of Mona McClane, a wealthy and beautiful thrill-seeker who once challenged Jake in a high-stakes gamble: She’d bet him she could get away with murder.
Is this dead man a pawn in Mona’s game? If so, thank goodness Jake and Helene’s honeymoon turned as a sour as a margarita. They’re already back in town, at odds, yet ready to play. With a crazy wager like Mona’s, Malone fears they’ll be ringing in the New Year with a countdown of corpses.

When a British industrialist is murdered on New Year’s Eve, his wealthy family members are the prime suspects.
Though they share a manor house, the Paradines are not close, and their patriarch does nothing to discourage the petty jealousies that divide wealthy families. A cold figure, James Paradine prefers work to his relations, but on New Year’s Eve he convenes the household. Valuable plans have been stolen from his office, and only one person could be to blame. He knows the culprit’s name, and gives the thief until midnight to come forward. By midnight, James Paradine is dead. Was it the thief who killed him, or could it have been someone else, acting on different motives entirely? The local constables are baffled, and it is left to prim detective Maud Silver to out the murderer.

No. 6 in The Kate Lawrence Mysteries. It’s almost New Year’s Eve, and Kate finds herself at her 35th high school reunion, where she is confronted by The Mean Girls, circa 1978. Worse yet, she’s put on a little weight, and her high school steady is expected to show. Strutter’s teenage son faces a personal dilemma, and one of Margo’s clients is in big trouble. Indulge in the Christmas Spirit with Silent Bite

As the clock struck midnight Saturday night, we bid farewell to 2022 and welcomed 2023. Last week, I took some time to reflect on the past year and consider the year ahead. I’d love for you to join me on this journey by clicking over to my blog post to hear my published works of 2022, my upcoming plans for 2023, my favorite books of 2022, Parks Pat swag for 2023, and more! Let’s embark on this new year together!
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme. Read the rules and more teasers at The Purple Booker. Anyone can play along.
Silent Bite by David Rosenfelt is one of the Andy Carpenter series. I’ve read a few of the books in the series, and they are a lot of fun. They are a combination of legal thriller and cozy mystery peopled with engaging characters and furry friends. Andy Carpenter himself, a wealthy lawyer who would prefer not to have any clients but always gets talked into it, has a humorous, self-deprecating voice and intimate style that makes him feel like a close friend.
As Christmas looms on the horizon, Andy is once again roped into taking on a murder case. He just can’t say no to his loyal friend and business partner Willie. But neither of them has any idea of the sinister secrets that lurk beneath the surface.
Andy dives into the case and finds himself in a tangled web of lies and deceit. As he nears the end of his investigation, things are not going well Andy must put everything he has into solving the case and proving his client’s innocence before it is too late. Join him in this edge-of-your-seat legal thriller as he solves this complex case with wit and determination.
“He’s your friend, right?”
David Rosenfelt, Silent Bite
“Yes.”
“And he does favors for you, right?”

Andy Carpenter and his trusty golden retriever, Tara, are about to discover that the holiday season is not calm or bright in Silent Bite, the latest Christmas mystery in this heartwarming series from bestselling author David Rosenfelt.
Lawyer Andy Carpenter can finally take a breath; he’s back on dry land after a family Caribbean cruise forced on him by his wife, Laurie, to get into the Christmas spirit. Of course the family’s first stop is the Tara Foundation, the dog rescue organization that has always been Andy’s true passion.
But when Andy arrives, his partner, Willie Miller, meets him with an urgent plea for help. Tony Birch—Willie’s old cellmate—has been arrested for murder and Willie firmly believes in Tony’s innocence. Despite all odds, Andy decides to take on Tony’s case and fight for justice. With all the elements of a classic Christmas mystery, Silent Bite is sure to put readers in a festive spirit as they follow along on Andy and Tara’s journey to uncover the truth behind Tony Birch’s case.

—Another great work of art by Ms. Workman. I am amazed at the diversity of her writing and how much I really enjoy them all. She can write cozy mystery, YA books that should be read by all, medical thrillers, Zach Goldman series and now a paranormal series. I am so glad to have found this author. I am honored that I get to read them early also.
—This book has all my favourite things: heart, great writing, nearly-flawless editing, something unusual in the air, and a cat. I needed a light read, and this fit the bill perfectly. Recommended.
—This book actually surprised me. I knew that a psychic cat would be entertaining. I just didn’t expect it to be this good. You really do get wrapped up in the people and story. It sounds like a fairly gentle story, but there is a lot of suspense involved. Add a bunch of humor to the mix and you are in for a treat. I love the characters. Wish I had some friends like them. And the cat is so very well done. Acts like a typical cat, but a lot smarter than his human. This is a story that you don’t want to put down.
—Extremely well written as are all of P.D. Workman’s books, the characters well developed. I’m a character reader, I get into the characters. Who and what they are. Why they do the things they do. The things that make a reader get invested into the characters and thereby the book. I look forward to P.D. Workman’s next book.

Also characteristic of this author, these extremely sensitive issues are explored with extensive empathy, described with incredible clarity, and portrayed with profound insight.”
“Once again P.D.Workman has created an intense psychological mystery that impacts a wallop of thought induction. The writing is so well developed and draws you into the characters story.”

Bidding Farewell to 2022, Hello 2023!

As we say goodbye to 2022 and hello 2023, I wanted to review what I accomplished in 2022 and what I am planning/looking forward to in 2023. So, please bear with me while I go over what I worked on this year. (Or you can jump to 2023 to see what is ahead or find out how you can help.)
What I wrote/published in 2022Breaking the Pattern (YA)Reg Rawlins, Psychic Investigator (Paranormal Mystery)
Careful of Thy Wishes
Time to Your Elf
Undiscovered Tomb
Missing Powers
A Fateful Plateful
Cut Out Cookie

Skimming Over the Lake
Hazard of the Hills
He Drowned in Memory
Their Walls Were Empty
They Came for Him
Last release in this series was in December 2021, and the next is coming in March 2023. I just have too many active series going right now to release three per year in each series. There are not enough months in the year! But 15 months apart is not too bad, and I did release an omnibus.
AudiobooksShe Wore Mourning
I was hoping to have more audiobooks released in 2022, but book sales were down and I didn’t have the capital to invest in these pricy ventures. Hopefully things will turn around for 2023! I have several narrators waiting to narrate.

I also moved from offering my ebooks through PayPal on my website to offering both ebooks and paperbacks through my Shopify store. This meant switching my trim size to 5.5×8.5 in order to sell through Lulu Direct in my eStore, which meant reformatting all 80+ titles previously published into that format and uploading them. This also included coding a number of landing page changes on my website and changing/adding 2 buttons to over 100 pages.
New website themeThe theme that I previously used on my website was not supported by the new version of WordPress, so I was forced to switch themes. This involved not just picking a new theme, but also reformatting over 100 landing pages, making CSS coding adjustments, troubleshooting menu issues, and a hundred other fiddly little things. I am still working away at behind the scenes stuff and have a few more things on my list to change or update.
New BrandingWhen I started publishing back in 2013, I didn’t know a lot about branding. My logo, bio, imprint, etc. needed to be revamped and updated. My logo is now on-genre for a crime writer, and I love my new imprint.

Social Media EngagementI have also been increasing my social media engagement and hope to jump into TikTok’s #booktok in the new year. This has been a good revenue funnel for a number of authors and I am hoping to gather some new readers there!

This is always a tough one! I did not record all of the books that I read last year, but here are some highlights:
From the Ashes
Dead Men Don’t Crochet
Blind Search
Anteater of Death
State of Terror
Darius the Great is Not Okay
Plaid and Plagiarism
Six Weeks to Live
Five Little Indians
The Bell Jar

I have written and queued up the following for publication next year.
Reg Rawlins Psychic InvestigatorThrice Spared
Cloaked Campaign
Cat Tales in the Swamp (short story which will be part of a multi-author bundle)
Rushin’ Death
Posed for Death
Death of a Corpse
Knows the Hills
Spanning the Creek
Sanctuary in the Stream
Wedding Cake Crush
A Waffle Death
Murder Meringue Pie
Three more books which I am working on now.
More/Updated OmnibusesI will be releasing omnibuses for the books released in 2022 and updating the full-series omnibuses. I may get the new Reg Rawlins 1-15 Omnibus up before the new year.
More BundlesI have just posted my New Year New Beginnings bundle! A great deal if you don’t already have all of the books included!
Accessible BooksI have the germ of an idea to help make my books more accessible to those with disabilities. While I currently offer some Large Print editions and a few audiobooks, and ebooks allow readers to increase font size, I would like to do more. Stay tuned while I look into this further!
How you can HelpDespite all of this work, it was a difficult year for me as a solopreneur, with sales dropping dramatically due to the rising costs of pulp and inflation eroding people’s spending power. In order to make a living for me and my family, I need to spend more time on marketing to get books out in front of people and less on creating new content. (And new content is what you want, right?)
Is there something you can do to help? Yes! If you have a friend you believe would enjoy my work, your personal recommendation of one of my books or series would be invaluable—not only would it give your friend something new to read, but it would also increase my sales and give you someone to talk to about your favourite series! If you would like to gift a book to a friend, contact me and we can make that happen.
Parks Pat SwagAs mentioned above, I ventured into some author swag this year with a 2023 calendar, 2023 planner, and notebook featuring photography from Calgary parks where the Parks Pat Mysteries are set. Your year won’t be complete without them! (Well, I hope not, anyway!)

Murder, Mayhem, and Missing Prizes

If you’re looking for a mystery story that will keep you on the edge of your seat, then a snowbound or closed-scene mystery may be just what you need!
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme. Read the rules and more teasers at The Purple Booker. Anyone can play along.
I am currently reading Murder in the Mystery Suite, the first book in the Ellery Adams “A Book Retreat Mystery” series. The characters and setting are intriguing, I can see a lot of potential for this adventurous series. There are lots of mentions of classic mystery books, authors, and detectives to delight the avid mystery reader. I look forward to seeing how the protagonist’s twins help with or derail the investigation.
Mrs. Pratt shook her head. “No, dear, he wasn’t. After all, there’s no rousing the dead.”
Ellery Adams, Murder in the Mystery Suite

Tucked away in the rolling hills of rural western Virginia is the storybook resort of Storyton Hall, catering to book lovers who want to get away from it all. To increase her number of bookings, resort manager Jane Steward has decided to host a Murder and Mayhem week so that fans of the mystery genre can gather together for some role-playing and fantasy crime solving.
But when the winner of the scavenger hunt, Felix Hampden, is found dead in the Mystery Suite, and the valuable book he won as his prize is missing, Jane realizes one of her guests is an actual murderer. Amid a resort full of fake detectives, Jane is bound and determined to find a real-life killer. There’s no room for error as Jane tries to unlock this mystery before another vacancy opens up…

Exploring the Depths of a Closed-Scene Mystery

Closed-scene mysteries such as locked room and snowbound mysteries, are a very popular subgenre of detective fiction. The murder may have been committed under seemingly impossible circumstances. The cast of suspects is limited, and all of them appear to be innocent or have alibis. They are filled with suspense and intrigue, as characters struggle to make sense of their situation and uncover the truth. But together, they or the intrepid sleuth decipher the clues of the scene, reveal the truth, and identify the murderer. Some of the most beloved classic mystery fiction falls into this category.
If you’re looking for a mystery story that will keep you on the edge of your seat, then a snowbound or closed-scene mystery may be just what you need!
A Closed SceneA closed scene mystery takes place in one distinct location. This means that all the characters and action in the story must take place within the confines of the single setting. The setting could be anything from a house to an airplane to an office building; however, it is isolated from the outside world in some way. The characters may be trapped by a blizzard or rainstorm, the lack of transportation over land or water, or by another device.
Classic Examples
In Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, ten people are trapped together on an island by a host who fails to appear. There is no way off the island, and there is a killer among them, picking them off one by one. Christie pulls off some clever machinations to provide the solution to this one.
In perhaps Christie’s most popular book, Murder on the Orient Express (made into several movies,) the suspects are all on a moving train. No one has gotten off or on, so they know that the killer is still onboard. Hercules Poirot comes to the rescue on this one!
A few more classic closed-scene mysteries are listed farther down.
ThemesSnowbound or closed-scene mysteries often delve into themes of isolation, paranoia, claustrophobia, and suspense. Characters are forced to confront their limited choices for escape and must collaborate to uncover the truth. In addition, these stories often explore themes like justice being served through nonconventional methods like vigilantism, moral uncertainty as characters must decide between contrasting values and ethics, and redemption as characters learn more about themselves.
Featured Snowbound MysteryBook 3 in the Kenzie Kirsch Medical Thrillers series is a closed-scene/snowbound mystery:

Trapped with a killer, it’s up to Kenzie to gather what clues she can from the remains of her fellow holidayers.
But the killer isn’t going to just sit around and wait for her to figure it out.
another well-crafted mystery full of suspense, plot twists, and nail-biting tension as Kenzie and Zachary work diligently to unravel the clues to the bizarre happenings at the lodge where they were hoping to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing vacation.

Chip Away at the Mystery in Freezer I’ll Shoot

If you’re looking for a thrilling and unique adventure filled with paranormal mysteries, then don’t miss my blog post announcing the release of Missing Powers! This sixteenth installment of the Reg Rawlins Psychic Investigator series follows our heroine on another exciting journey to find a missing warlock.
With intriguing characters and magical worldbuilding, this book will keep you on the edge of your seat. Plus, if you’re a fan of cozies, you won’t want to miss out on this one. Get your copy of Missing Powers today and join Reg Rawlins on her latest journey!
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme. Read the rules and more teasers at The Purple Booker. Anyone can play along.
I am reading Freezer I’ll Shoot, the third book in Victoria Hamilton’s Vintage Kitchen Mystery series, and it is a great cozy mystery. I have read one other book (book 1, actually) in Victoria Hamilton’s Vintage Kitchen Mystery Book series (currently a 10-book series) and found it quite enjoyable.
I have not yet hit the murder, though it has been set up and I’m sure will be discovered before the day is done. Hamilton’s writing is delightful and this book has everything you need in a cozy mystery series—an isolated holiday location, vintage recipes, a three-legged dog, and a nasty character who is destined for trouble. Jaymie Leighton, the protagonist, also has an interesting mother and relationships to contend with, adding a bit more flavor to the mix.
I highly recommend Freezer I’ll Shoot for anyone looking for a cozy mystery that will keep them guessing and entertained. It’s perfect for curling up with on a snowy winter day or taking to the beach!
Along the wall behind the bar and dining lounge servery, vintage tools were hung. She got up to take a closer look. They looked lethal, many of them: poles with wicked hooks on the end, giant picks and saws, and many examples of what looked like a kind of claw.
Victoria Hamilton, Freezer I’ll Shoot

Trying to escape her overbearing mother, vintage kitchenware enthusiast and soon-to-be columnist Jaymie Leighton retreats to her family’s cottage on Heartbreak Island. While there she hopes to write an article about the Ice House restaurant, owned by good friends and neighbors, siblings Ruby and Garnet Redmond. Once an actual icehouse, the restaurant is charmingly decorated with antique tools of the trade, including a collection of ice picks.
One night, while working on her article, Jaymie overhears an argument and, ever the sleuth, sets out to explore. But when she stumbles upon a dead body her blood runs cold. It’s Urban Dobrinskie, whose feud with the Redmonds is no secret, and he’s got an ice pick through his heart. Now Jaymie’s got to sharpen her sleuthing skills to chip away at the mystery and prove her neighbors’ innocence—before someone else gets picked off…

I am excited to announce the release of Missing Powers, the sixteenth installment in the Reg Rawlins, Psychic Investigator series! Missing Powers can be read as a stand alone mystery/adventure or together with the rest of the series. Find some great deals on other books in the series below.
In Missing Powers, Reg is tasked with finding a missing warlock—Davyn—and she must use her inner powers to do so. Her own doubts weigh heavily on her mind as time runs out. Will she be able to locate him before it’s too late?
Join Reg and her mystical friends as they embark on another adventure filled with paranormal mysteries and exciting adventures. The series has been praised for its unique characters, magical worldbuilding, and incorporation of real-world issues.

Reg is reluctant to help with the search for the missing coven leader, but there is a tradition of psychics helping the police, so she feels like she is under some obligation.
Reg has always been good at finding lost objects, and showed her ability to find a wizard who had been lost in the Everglades for 50 years, so finding Davyn should have been a piece of cake. But no matter what method she tries, she can’t seem to sense him, and that terrifies her.
What if it’s already too late? Or is Davyn out there somewhere, his life dangling by a thread, hoping that she will succeed?
With time running out and her own doubts weighing heavily on her mind, can Reg summon her inner powers to locate the missing warlock before it’s too late?
I never cease to be amazed and entertained by the fertile imagination of P. D. Workman as she weaves wondrous adventures for her incredible characters while still managing to subtly incorporate some real-world issues into the story. If you enjoy paranormal cozies, do not miss out on this series.
Like paranormal mysteries? Psychics, witches, fairies, and more! Award-winning and USA Today Bestselling Author P.D. Workman waves her wand to transport readers to the myth- and magic-filled small town of Black Sands for another paranormal cozy mystery to be solved by Reg Rawlins and her friends.
A self-professed con artist practicing as a contact to the dead, a drop-dead gorgeous warlock, and a psychic cat—what could go wrong?
Fall under Reg’s spell today.

The more she discovers, the more Jennifer is convinced there’s a killer on the loose. And, with all the colorful characters she’s meeting, both living and undead, she’s pretty sure one of them is the murderer.

What if the Witches’ Council Library was more than just a library? What if it were so, so much more…
Rebecca Kimble, Librarian of the scariest library on earth, needed a break. Shoot, no one would argue that point. The woman was a saint to do what she did.
But when the council drafted Ruby and me as interim librarians? Let’s just say my life got interesting in a whole new way. Not a good way, either.
It wasn’t just the library itself, although—at least in the beginning—it was a big part of it. I mean, it wasn’t called the scariest library on earth for nothing, you know.
But no. There was so much more. There was the trio of crow thieves, the demon, and the whole murder thing that really started the whole month off with a bang.
Yup. That’s right. An entire month. Not just any month, either. October. You know, that magical month when the veil between the worlds grows thinner and thinner every day?
But I’m really getting ahead of myself here, aren’t I?
You really need to start at the beginning…
