I'm the last person you should ask for advice

I find myself suddenly in this weird position where I'm being asked for writing/publishing advice and it both thrills and baffles me every time. Never in my life did I think I would be someone people came to seeking advice, unless that advice was about some weird, hillbilly/hippy home remedy. Or maybe something IEP related. Those are always my areas of expertise and I wouldn't so much say expertise as I'd say something I kinda sorta know about and there's no one more knowledgeable to ask at t...

"My world got ripped from me."

I've mentioned Stina and her novel, Tell Me When , over here before. I got the opportunity to "meet" Stina early on in this crazy process and it's been pretty cool, getting to wade into these new waters with another debuting author. Next Monday is the big day, the day Tell Me When releases, and in anticipation of that, Stina has arranged a blog hop to help raise awareness about stalking, something her main character deals with the aftermath of. As soon as I heard about it, I knew I had to join...

Setting fires with my girl.

Bri Martin likes her skirts too short, her heels too tall, and trouble close at hand.

When my editor emailed me the rough draft blurb for Wild Ones, I immediately broke out in a grin, because hot damn, first sentence and that was my Bri. She's a spitfire. A wild card. She's that girl with her skirt hiked up a little too high to be proper, her heels just a little too tall to be lady-like, and the first one to jump into trouble when it presents itself. Hell, sometimes it didn't even need to pres...

Of shoes and ships and sealing-wax. Of cabbages and kings.

Andbutso, I have things to discuss. An update, of sorts, to this post
We are now officially two days away from Wild Ones release date.
I have the best Plus One evar.
I believe, for those of you that have pre-ordered, it should be available not long after midnight on your devices. For those of you that have not preordered, stop. Don't move. Traveling with T kindly informed me that something like nine blogs will be participating in a Wild Ones giveaway throughout the month of January....

From a tweet to a book: My experience with Carina Press.

I've been meaning to write this post for many, many moons but I kept putting it off, thinking the further along I was in the process, the more accurate this post would be. With Wild Ones close to releasing and work on book two under way, now seems like a prime time.
I know when I started my research as to where I was gonna go with Wild Ones, Carina Press was on the top of my list. I Googled them every which way from Sunday, desperate to find out all I could. In the end, I leaped, and I don't a...

That girl in the mirror that I'll always kinda hate.

This isn't a story about how I learned to love me, flaws and all. This isn't a story about how I saw those flaws and decided I hated them so much I was going to change them and now I am happy with the New Me. This story isn't inspirational like that at all.  It's a confession, maybe. Or maybe it's just a story. I'm not entirely sure.

But because it's a new year, I've seen posts and pictures everywhere, talking about resolutions and goals and there's a lot of feel-good, motivating stuff fl...

December 31, 2013

Hello, old friend, and here we are. You and me, on the last page.

2013 was a hell of a year, wasn't it?An impossible year. A year that stretched on and on and yet now we're here. At the end. The story is over and it had been such a good story, too. It had all the right elements.
Wonderfully flawed, lovely characters.

There was conflict.

 and resolution.

And oh the plot twists. There were so many plot twists.

I'm not sad to see it go, the fantastic impossibility of 2013. It doesn't hurt, penning the final word in that book. The ups, the downs, the mountains...

The time has come, the Walrus said.

Holy shit. Christmas is over. Christmas is over and we're in the last few days of 2013 and, man, this year has been weird. It's been up and down and gone on for ages, yet I blinked and here we are. Flying towards 2014 and the release of my first book and whoa. Whoa. Life, what are you even doing?

Speaking of The Book, so many things are happening. It's up on NetGalley and available for request. Nina has reviewed it as did Christina from Pretty Lil Page Turner. I..I honestly don't know if it's...

Family Does Not Look Like a Word Anymore: The Scary Mommy Thanksgiving Project.

It's November, which means a lot of things: Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Veteran's Day, mine and my husband's anniversary, THE DAY OF THE DOCTOR 50TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL OMG, Catching Fire and Thor 2 premiers (look, I'm in a lot of fandoms, okay?) and so many, many awesome book releases. But in this house, November also means NaNoWriMo or: Do Not Even Think About Getting Out of Bed After 9:30pm, Mommy Has to Make Word Count Month. As such, I have more drafts sitting in my folder than I should...

Stina Lindenblatt's Tell Me When: COVER REVEAL, Y'ALL!

I've had the opportunity to get to know Stina Lindenblatt, a lovely fellow debuting Carina Press author, after she reached out to me early on in the publishing process to invite me to a group for Debuting NA Authors. Wading into the publishing waters with someone by my side to compare notes with and talk shop has been a lifesaver. I've found myself agonizing over marketing decisions to her and generally squealing over developments and it's been awesome to have someone who understands exactly...
