Closing out New Adult Read Aloud with Angie Sandro’s Dark Paradise.

Or: How it took me two days and roughly 80 million tries to get a mostly coherent recording.

New-adult-read-aloud

All this past week, a group of New Adult authors have taken turns reading excerpts from each other’s books. It’s been a blast, hearing what everyone sounds like as well as being read to. What can I say? I’m still a girl who likes to be read to like it’s story time.

Today is the final day, and bless their souls, they slated me to close it out. Knee-jerk is to say the best was saved for last, but truthful...

I was cat called.

I was cat called today.

It wasn’t the first time, of course. I’ll go so far as to say it won’t be the last, something I’ve never once said out loud but have thought every time it’s happened. Because saying something like that could, and probably would, be taken as me saying, “I’m so attractive these things are just inevitable.” I’d be met with side-eyes. Maybe, depending on who I said it to, I’d be told I think too highly of myself. People from both groups would tell me to take the cat calling...

COVER REVEAL! Erica Monroe’s Beauty and the Rake.

Remember all those times I said I wasn’t doing many reveals and tours and blitzes? Remember how I keep proving myself to be a liar. Because that’s definitely happening again.

But I can’t not share this cover for so many reasons. One? It’s Erica Monroe‘s. Erica is my soul sister, brain-sharer, and PIC. I’m also pretty obsessed with her Rookery Rogues books, and I got to be one of the betas for her latest release, Secrets in Scarlet (buy links below) which I absolutely adored.

Also-also, yeah, hi...

E-Reader Side-loading via Calibre – A TUTORIAL, YO.

Earlier today on my Facebook page, I posted about a sale Carina Press is having right now. (An awesome site-wide sale, mind you. You can get the code for it if you click through to my FB page.) As I was posting about itI thought, “Self, you know what you should do? You should make a side-loading tutorial. You get asked this a lot, after all.” And I replied, “You know what? I make an excellent point. I’m gonna make a side-loading tutorial.”

I’m gonna be using Calibre to do this. You don’t have...

She Geeks: Outlander Recap (Chapters 1-5)

As I mentioned at the end of this post, I was damn near the last person on the face of the earth, it seemed like, who had not read or watched Outlander. I barely even know what Outlander is about. I’ve picked up a few things from Twitter here and there, but aside from that? I’m basically the last person on the face of the earth who doesn’t even know what the deal with Outlander is. I know. I KNOW. It’s been on my radar, barely, but I just hadn’t gotten around to actually reading it.
.
But then...

A quick note about privacy.

I posted this over on my Facebook page, but I thought it’d probably a good idea to C&P here.

We’ve all read and freaked over the Guardian story about the author stalking the reviewer, right? Really effing creepy and disturbing stuff. I do not say “interesting” or “fascinating” for a reason. Because what Hale did, to me, is not interesting or fascinating. Not even a little. It’s disturbing, appalling, and many of the responses to it are sickening.

Some of you reviewers and bloggers might now be...

A boy named Betty.

I’m married to a boy named Betty.

todd2

That’s not his real name, of course, but it might as well be. It’s what most people who know only me know him as. What even his own family calls him when we’re sitting around a table swapping stories and shaking the house’s foundation with our laughter. If you asked our kids what Mommy calls Daddy, they’ll usually reply with, “Betty!” In our house, there’s givens. The Boy’s schedule is not a typical one, the Baby will be called the Baby even when he’s grown a...

Back alley magic and branding.

One of the most difficult parts for me on this blog is deciding what to post about and what not to. Do I stick with just writing things? I could, but while writer is a big part of who I am, it’s not all of me. Because I am not just one thing, nor will I allow myself to be defined that way. Even if it is something as crucial to my makeup as writing. Do I post social issues? That can be very polarizing but it’s important, I truly believe, for such things to be discussed. I think half the probl...

Reblog: I’d like it known and understood.

Kristine:

Trigger warning ahead:

I’ve mentioned being raped at least once before, though I’ve never gone into much detail about it. There was never one good reason for that, and a tiny million ones. It wasn’t the right time, it wasn’t sure how to tell it, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to tell it. Talking about things like rape can be very empowering for the victims, but, for me, there was a large part of me that was scared that’s what I’d become in the eyes of anyone who would read: a victim. I di...
