As part of my dedication to the Devonshire Mysteries, I feel obliged to test various ales, just so I can include them in the stories you understand.

The other day I found a few nice ales that are made by Red Rock Brewery in Bishopsteignton, here in Devon. I taught in Bishopsteignton for several years, and I was delighted to find that at least one of my ex-pupils is working in this family-run enterprise. Of course, I had to do some research to make sure Dan Corrigan would like the beer, and I’m p...

Early spring sunshine always feels like an unexpected bonus.

We made the most of it with a visit to the beach at Teignmouth.

The hazy sunshine gave me some trouble with the exposure of the photos, but I hope they capture something of what the trip was like.

Plus, there are some goldfinches. Several of these bright birds have taken to visiting our garden to feast on sunflower kernels, and I’m very pleased to see them.

The world is in a mess, but even in our small village, people have been rallying round to help. One neighbour has arranged to drive a van to Poland with humanitarian supplies for Ukrainian refugees, and many of us have donated warm clothes and essential supplies.

As a father, and an ex-teacher of young children, it’s heartbreaking to think of kids going cold and hungry, living in fear.

But this website isn’t my soapbox, and so I’ve gone ahead and posted up a collection of my recent photos. I hop...

Sue and I took a trip to Winchester to visit our son and his partner.

It’s a charming city, crammed with beautiful old buildings. One of them hold the Deanery Bookshop, where I bought half a dozen secondhand paperbacks, mainly crime fiction.

There’s also a thriving market, and I picked up a few old vinyl records, all jazz. And if that weren’t enough, we visited coffee shops and eateries, and even a bar or two. What’s not to like?

I hope you enjoy the photos.

If you’ve been a member for a while you may recognise Hay Tor on Dartmoor.

It’s a popular spot and easy for us to get to, so we like to visit it from time to time. On this occasion a bitterly cold wind was blowing, especially as we approached the tor itself, but it was great to blow the cobwebs away. Also, it gave me a bit of inspiration for a scene I was struggling with in my latest Devonshire Mystery. I was planning to locate a scene in Exeter, but while we marched around the rocks, it struck ...

Valley Of Lies Audiobook Launched

At long last, the second Devonshire Mystery, Valley of Lies, is out as an audiobook.

This audiobook was a long time in the making, and I worked hard to make sure it came out well. I really hope that fans of the Devonshire Mysteries will enjoy it.

The audiobook is rolling out to all the main audiobook stores, and at the time of writing, it’s on Authors Direct, Amazon, Audible, Chirp, Google Play, Kobo and Scribd. You can also ask about it at your local library.

There’s a universal link below:
