How Do You Express Your Truth?

You cannot take responsibility for how well another accepts your truth, you can only ensure how well it is communicated
And by how well I don't mean how clearly
I mean how lovingly, how compassionately, how sensitivelym how courageously and how completely. Neal Donald Walsh

You want something, you have a goal, you set a goal, a date, expectations with a team, a group or even in a relationship and none of these are met
What do you do?
How do you communicate this information?
How do you respond?
Do you communicate this? Can you?

How do you respond when someone pisses you off?
Do you react? Shout? Pout? Withdraw?
Do you communicate those feelings?

I have learnt that it is my responsibility to own my feelings and communicate them in a way I would want it communicated with me
My truth is my truth and it is up to me to not only live it but to communinicate it
Being afraid to say or live your truth to avoid "conflict and drama" to keep people happy, to face possible unpleasantness is a receipe for resentment and bitterness.
Remember it is not about how well the message is received but how well it is sent.
How are you living your truth?

Peace

My Responsibility

Tell my doubts that they can die today
Imma catch me a wave, sail away
Can't stop me now
Tell depression it can fly away
Tell my doubts that they can die today
Imma catch me a wave, sail away
Can't stop me now LeCrae

Today is a holiday in the country of my birth- Trinidad  and Tobago. We celerate Emmancipation Day. A holiday declared to celebrate the abolition of slavery on the island. This is the 25th anniversary of this declaration of holiday. People had to fight and convince the leaders of the day that a holiday was essential, the same people who fought for the holiday were riduculed, laughed at and ignored, called mad people! Now 25 years later, this is a holiday, we pay homage to the one's who paved a path for us to live a different life.

I reflect on this day annually. there is usually a big celebration, a huge parade. I have stopped going, people don't understand why. I have never explained. I like to spend the time alone reflecting on this responsibility I have been given by those who came before me
I sometimes get scared, truth be told, what am I really doing with this responsibility to do better, to be better, to honor what those before me did? Am I doing anything?
Those that went before me fought, they sat down and didn't move, they prayed, they worked but most importantly they had a dream, a vision that things will change, that this too shall pass
That is so much inspiration right there for me, inspiration overload!
How do I step into these shoes? It scares th shits out of me, so I stay at home, and reflect
and today I pledge to move even thoughscared, to do the same thing, dream big, visualize better than today and work, pray and move towards that!

I am ready!Give thanksPeace

Get Your BS straight

So many things I still don't know
So many times I've changed my mind
Guess I was born to make mistakes
But I ain't scared to take the weight
So when I stumble off the path
I know my heart will guide me back - Erykah Badu

Do you believe in yourself?
Do you believe in your goals and dreams?
Do you believe in your purpose and gifts?
Do you believe in why you are here?

I mean really do?
How would you know?
As yourself and then listen to the response

Do you even know what your goals, purpose, dreams and gifts are?
If you don't ask yourself that as well, and listen for the answer

Have you found yourself making excuses for why you are still in a situation that makes you miserable and sick?
It's the money, it's the time, it's the kids, it's the responsibilities, it's the economy, it's the husband, the mortgage, the cat, the dog, the goldfish, the parrot, the grandma, the papa
you aren't ready!
you aren't believing in yourself
your faith is in what cannot work, rather than what can
That is is! Faith and belief in yourself is missing!

And how do you get to this space?
You have to do the work in knowing who you are and why you are here and be comfortable with that
You have to do the work in believing in YOU, what are your CORE beliefs? - do you believe in yourself and your abilities or your lack of money? or lack of opportunities? What do you really really beliefve in? That shows up in your life by what happens on a daily basis! You get what you believe- full stop
What is your level of self awareness?
For a long time I believed that my success was an accident- my good fortune was be fluke
Well you know what happened? It didn't last, I did not believe I DESERVED IT!
I had to do the work, I had to be self aware, to know who I am and why I was here!
it really is that simple, nothing more complicated than that
Commit to doing the work, commit to self belief and watch what happens!

Peace

Top Ten Lessons on the Tour

The ego makes us think we are inherently self-destructive. The truth is, we do self-destructive things but we have a choice in the matter. We don't have to do that, and at the core it is not our will to do so. ACIM

The tour is done! I had a great time! My motto was "expect the unexpected and handle it" and so I did
The unexpected was had to cancel one gig, was not able to spend the night at my sister's house and meet her baby and family for the first time, sold less books than I anticipated but it was all good and the highlights well outweighed the lowlights! I had fun, I had peace, I saw my growth, I saw my improvement on stage, I met some wonderful people and have somethings in the works!

Top Lessons on the Tour

1. Be Yourself - All the Time
2. Authenticity wins
3. Keep an open mind and a willing spirit
4. Set Boundaries - and keep them
5. The Universe got you- trust that - no matter how it looks
6. Make new friends
7. Exercising before gigs helps a whole heap  and having some still time
8. Gratitude is the great multiplier - be grateful for it all
9. Even if it seems as though things are out of control they aren't
10. Have fun, always have fun
Cheers to the TourPeace

Why Are You Here in DC? Book Tour - Homeward Bound

You Don't need a crowd to celebrate your victories- Joel Leon

I did not grow up knowing that I had a sister, it was a "secret" she lived in another country, had another mother and just was not part of any discussion until I became an adult, when my father died the other 4 sisters surfaced as well. They are all lovely, doing well for themselves, living their lives, I spent very little time together with any of them since then. On this trip, I got an opportunity to spend time with the one that I clicked most with, I had a lot of fun, she is smart, well intentioned, level headed, extremely funny and made time for me in between her busy schedule of taking care of her new baby and family. I was very grateful for the time, I met some of her friends as well and it was loads of fun! Depite all the historical venues that I hit on this tour, this was really a highlight for me, I intend to keep in touch!

Connection helps my super powers
Peace

Day 8 - Why Are You Here in DC - Book Tour

something happens when you slowly enjoy becoming the woman of your dreams. you begin to see how powerful you truly are
You must be moved by something, you just can't create because of creativity. You have to be moved by something or you will fade away . Ijeoma
The time taken to see the musems and the Martin Luther King (MLK) memorial was well spent.  MLK is inspiring. His courage, his conviction, his desire for peace and non violence inspires me to do better, to be better. To make a differenceTo shine
I was apprehensive to pay the 28bucks to go to see the tour because I was worried about money and whether I could have used it for something else that was more important but let me tell you- that 28 bucks bought me some inspiration that is worth 28million! I have heard before about acting abundant and abundance flows to you. This was definite proof of that. Acting abundant to feel abundant. The feeling I left there with will definitely overflow into my life in so many waysPeace

Day 7 - Why Are You Here in DC - Book Tour

Faith is a more practical way to deal with everyday life than cynicism toughness or defensiveness - Unknown
Sankofa Books and Video Cafe has a fascinating history, the independent bokstore turns 20 years old next year, they have been an epi center and heartbeat for Howard University students for almost two decades, a conscious space of learning and sharing. Having the opportunity to grace that spot was another dream realised. I made a friend on the Journey- The Universe is always right on time, Dana helped me set up on the first day, took pics and was just an all round breath of air, she also came with me to Sankofa and did the same thing, we arrived early and the place was quiet, I was getting nervous thinking oh dear no one would show up, coming close to the time one lady came in and said she was on her way home and got an email from Sankofa and she never checks emails, looked interesting and decided to come. At 2 mins past the time I was scheduled to speak only 3 people were there. I said a prayer for guidance and gratitude knowingthat who is supposed to be there was thereI started my talk, as I was talking more people came in, the place did not fill up but I somehow believed that me talking drew a crowd in from the nearby coffee shop. I had fun, I was relaxed, people felt free to ask questions, we had a discussion and the best thing was there was a young film maker from University using me as his project, so I am guaranteed some super professional shots and footage! I give thanks!
On to the next one...Peace

Day 6 - Why Are You Here in DC - Book Tour

Shyness and under confidence are not part of your DNA. You can change this. - Carole Rice
Confessions on the Journey - I was nervous, shitting bricks! I mean, it is Busboys and Poets! A renowned joint in the DC Area, the people who have graced that stage are like world renowned, the hype is high, and I was nervous. I took an Uber to the spot and it was heaving, full of people, a coffee shop, book store, restaurant and stage in one spot. They took such great care of me, made me as comfortable as possible. I was able to relax and soak it all in.The talk went well, I relaxed after seeing a couple of familiar faces! and it flowedIt felt right being on the stage, sharing the lessons on the Journey, it just felt that doing this was the reason I was here! Why Are You Here?
Saturday night as well was fabulous, I really had a lot of fun!On to the next one tonightPeace

Day 4- Why Are You Here in DC - Book Tour

Lightwork can be a fight. If you think being on the “spiritual” side of progress guarantees you harmony, then either you haven’t been at it long enough or you’ve been playing it safe. Harmonizing, healing, serving, shining...it’s messy work. Beautiful. Worth it. But messy. Challenges on the cusp of your success aren’t always "self-sabotage". Sometimes it’s a cosmic call to arms, an opportunity to prove your devotion. An initiation that can come in the form of back attacks, derailed plans, shocking political upsets. Danielle LA Porte

Yesterday I spent the day organising menu's for today, doing a site visit and ended it with a jazz concert at the National Gallery. In between all of that I had to go to the Pharmacy because the sniffles started. It has been a case of the house inside is freezing, outside is like an oven, jump ina car, it's freezing, outside the car is like a fireball. And so the hot, cold dance goes. I was not prepared, I am fully in summer mode! so I got to the pharmacy and stocked up. Then this morning the wickedest back pain ever came out and said "hey I am here!"  What's up with that I thought? I went to run, and ended up walking.
Here is the thing, nothing is stopping this train! it's in motion I am ready to prove this devotion, it is a big day and I am ready!
How bad do you want this? That bad, no back ache of runny nose stands a chance here!
Peace
