First update on From Blood Reborn
This is my first update onFrom Blood Reborn, the forthcoming third installment ofThe Oasis of Filth. Since this is only my third foray into the world of writing, I am trying to be a sponge, learning all I can from those who have had success before me and who are willing to talk about how they did it. I read a lot of what Hugh Howey has to say. I have been readingWrite. Publish. Repeat. by Johnny B. Truant and Sean Platt. Lots of great information.
I have a story I want to tell. (Truthfully, I...

Inspiration
They say to write what you know, and I think there is a lot of sense in that adage. This past week, my family and I spent some time on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, around about where the doctor might have ended up in The Hopeless Pastures.
As the winds picked up, seemingly sweeping away Fall and shepherding in Winter, I stood alone by the dock. And thought of zombies floating away in the water.

That was fast
Between Lulu and Apple, someone is a slow reader.
The Oasis of Filth is finally available in Apple’s iBookstorebut it has been a long time coming. Lulu, who I used to manage the submission and sell the book, took several weeks to review it (even though it had been approved for sale on Lulu.com), then rejected the first version due to an incorrect table of contents issue. I fixed that and then waited several weeks again to get the confirmation that Lulu had approved it. Then came the Apple wait...

Hopeless Pastures update plus “The Space Between”
Busy times after hours working on writing and editing! November is proving to be a rather prolific month so far. In addition to working through the edits to The Hopeless Pastures in time for its Nov 28 release, I have suddenly found myself knee deep in something completely new: a sci-fi short story. It’s called “The Space Between” and I will be submitting it to a few sci-fi magazines in the coming couple of weeks, once it is done and given a clean edit. As it is only about 4,500-5,000 words,...

Iceland
My wife and I just returned from a week in Iceland. First, I have to say that the stories of Greenland being the icy place and Iceland being the green place seem much less believable now, having been there. Iceland is pretty damn icy. Whipping winds, freezing temperatures, vistas of nothing by lava, moss and snow for as far as the eye can see. On more than one occasion I remarked that it was like a desolate hellscape.
My friend Chris Durso, who is also the heroic editor of my forthcoming secon...

Clump shhhhh clump…
We both startled awake to near-complete darkness, the rain still pouring down. But that sound wasn’t the rain. We knew that sound. Steps on the porch. A zombie? Wandering in the rain?
Addy started to growl, very low, and I grabbed at her, soothing her. “Shh, girl,” I whispered. “Let’s just...
