Spoiler-Proof

im-not-listeningThe phrase “spoiler alert” is so commonplace these days that I heard it used several times this past weekend by girls attending my daughter’s 10th birthday party. Spoiler alert: I think spoiler alerts are unnecessary.

But I realize I may be in the vast minority here. See, I don’t mind spoilers for two reasons: 1) My days, like so many people, are completely filled with STUFF. Things to do, places to go, deadlines, obligations… STUFF. To figure out if there is a movie, book, or TV show out ther...

Launch Day is Tomorrow… At Least for the Important Things

So I had a goal of launching:

A newly-editedThe Oasis of Filth – Part One
A newly-edited The Hopeless Pastures – The Oasis of Filth – Part Two
The brand newFrom Blood Reborn – The Oasis of Filth – Part Three
And…
The newly compiledThe Oasis of Filth – The Complete Series

And I succeeded. All of those will come out as ebooks on time for their March 22 launch date.

However…

I wanted to release all four as paperbacks as well, and that was less successful. The Oasis of Filth – Part One is out on CreateSpa...

Racing the Oblivious Cars

don-quixoteRemember when I said, back on February 24, that From Blood Reborn was done? Well, the truth is that it was onlymostlydone. And even that ‘mostly’ is debatable.

Sure, the primary writing is complete. But there are a lot of steps still to go, and only 9 days remain until launch day, March 22.Luckily, I already have a cover.

I delivered the original manuscript to about a half dozen people in late February. Most of those folks were my friendly first-review editorial team, looking over the book to s...

March 22 – From Blood Reborn

From Blood RebornFrom Blood Reborn, the final installment ofThe Oasis of Filth, arrives Saturday, March 22.

At almost forty thousand words, it is 35% bigger than eitherThe Oasis of Filth – Part 1 orThe Hopeless Pastures – The Oasis of Filth – Part 2.

But when it’s done, it’s done.

I can’t say how excited I am to have you read it. It’s my first, and I love it, and I’ve had such a great response from parts 1 and 2. I think you’ll like the end. It fits.

I’ll sit here, looking through the tiny, circular window, bobbi...

I Know They’re Not Zombies. That’s the Point.

zombie_unemployment_line

No real zombies here, either.

WithThe Oasis of Filth, I have —perhaps annoyingly —broken one of the most revered traditions of zombie fiction: I use the word ‘zombie.’ And I actually use it a lot. But at least I did it on purpose.

Here’s why:

Your typical zombie fiction story asks us to believe in two things that are, in my opinion, ridiculously far-fetched (not that the ridiculously far-fetched can’t make a good story). First, we must believe that a living creature dies and then reanimates, typ...

The Value of an Ending, part 2

bond_circleOh crap, I actually did it.

I finished The Oasis of Filth. I wrote an ending. It’s now out of my hands and with the editorial team (a bunch of friends and family who offer advice; most notably, the esteemed Mr. Christopher Durso, aka the C-Dog, who provides full-on editing, as well as occasional inappropriate sportswear suggestions).

I feel awful.

And I feel… INCREDIBLE.

Maybe they’ll hate it. Maybe they’ll love it. I have no body of experience to judge by. I can’t say “Well, obviously it’s a bet...

Amazon Exclusive – starting in March

KDP_Logo_Stacked_PMSI’ve been selling books in iTunes, Nook, Kobo and Lulu for many months now. My experiences are my own and not indicative of a larger concern, but in truth, each of these venues has cost me time and effort, and none have provided results.

So, in March, with the release of From Blood Reborn, I will be pulling back to sell on Amazon exclusively. This may seem like a retreat or copout, but actually gives me a lot of exciting marketing options. The same marketing opportunities that got my books rea...
