Quicken Loans National Fantasy Preview
There is no time for small talk this week. I’m about to hit the road to go meet some aliens for the wife’s birthday. I’m heading to Roswell, New Mexico to be exact. It will be my first time entering the state of New Mexico and also my first encounter with an E.T. If I don’t return for next week’s preview, then you know I’ve been abducted.
The course is a new one this week at the Quicken Loans National. It’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. Have a listen to this week’s Fantasy Golf Happy Hour podcast for more course information. Also take a look at the Fantasy Golfanac to get some additional research.
Players to Watch
Justin Rose… The man to beat this week in many regards. He’s a two-time winner here, both on separate courses and neither on this week’s course. Might as well add a third victory to his Quicken Loans resume.
Rickie Fowler… For an elite player to have such a large split stat on Bentgrass greens versus bermuda is strange. That’s the case with Fowler though, as he’s gaining 1.654 strokes over the field on bentgrass (since 2013-14), but just 0.663 strokes on other surfaces. That makes him an elite option in all formats.
Ollie Schniederjans… Last week he turned pro and this week he added a sponsor, joining Team Callaway. He will be very popular amongst gamers until he duds at least one week. I think it’s smarter to fade him this week, but his upside in the future is nice.
Justin Thomas… Could see him going either way this week. A win wouldn’t be shocking but a missed cut wouldn’t really be too surprising. I’ve always tried to target him on bermudagrass events, so I will have way lower ownerships than most this week.
Russell Knox… Someone I will have plenty of is the Scot. In fact, he’s my One-and-Done pick. He wasn’t my number one choice this week, but I’ve already exhausted Rose, Fowler, and Finau. Knox provides stability against a weak field and it’s just a matter of time before he lands a win. I wouldn’t be complaining if this were that week!
Adam Hadwin… Have to like his fight last week as he looked well on his way to a missed cut before fighting back for a top 10. That upside is fantastic, and he’s pretty cheap once again.
Greg Owen… Not inside my top 25 this week, but I think he’s a sneaky play in DFS after many got burnt by him last week. He’s flashed some really high finishes recently.
20/20 Club… No 20/20 club members this week since RTJ Golf Club is a new venue.
Danny Lee… Missed the cut at the Open but back-to-back podiums prior to that, including his maiden victory. Get back on board this week as he faces off against non-major competition.
Andy Sullivan… Small sample sizes on the PGA TOUR but he’s tearing up the Euro Tour and hasn’t faltered in his limited PGATOUR appearances. With a weak field like this weeks, likely worth a shot.
Quicken Loans Cheatsheet… Head over to Daily Fantasy Solutions and grab this week’s DraftKings cheatsheet for just five bucks. This includes guys that fit the stat profile, golfers that are in good form, course history, recommended cash game targets and more! I love hearing about the success people are having with the weekly DraftKings cheatsheet so check it out!

Quicken Loans National DraftKings Picks
BullDurham tackled the field in last week’s Future of Fantasy Golf Tour event over on DraftKings. It was just his sixth start on the FoF Tour, but he’s risen to seventh in the standings after the win. He appears to be a legitimate contender to heybillp, bustouts, dixoncider, and virginiawino up at the top.
Full FoF Tour standings are at the bottom. Comment if you need an invite this week.
Now let’s have a look at DraftKings this week. I’ve taken a look at current form and bentgrass performance to see what we can piece together for their $350K Drive the Green that cost just $3 to enter.
Found the Form
Will Wilcox ($8900)… 2nd-8th-MC-MC-12th
Tony Finau ($9800)… 22nd-MC-13th-25th-14th
Chad Campbell ($7400)… 11th-48th-28th-37th-25th
Chris Stroud ($7800)… MC-32nd-5th-37th-10th
Andres Romero ($7700)… 34th-10th-6th-MC-14th
Jason Bohn ($8100)… 12th-13th-MC-29th-52nd
What a lovely bunch of coconuts we have here. Taking their last five starts each, we have top 25s in 16-of-30. Not too shabby. Some others in form to consider are Justin Rose, Carl Pettersson, Johnson Wagner, Stewart Cink, Vaughn Taylor, Steven Bowditch, and Scott Langley.
Grass Benders
Tony Finau ($9800)… ( 1.762 sg:bentgrass vs. -0.009 sg:other )
Adam Hadwin ($7500)… ( 0.335 sg:bentgrass vs. -0.814 sg:other )
Rickie Fowler ($11700)… ( 1.654 sg:bentgrass vs. 0.663 sg:other )
Aaron Baddeley ($6600)… ( 0.465 sg:bentgrass vs. -0.337 sg:other )
Andres Romero ($7700)… ( 0.527 sg:bentgrass vs. -0.314 sg:other )
Vijay ($6200)… Vijay Singh ( 0.131 sg:bentgrass vs. -0.549 sg:other )
This groups of lads prefers putting on bentgrass surfaces. Using the Fantasy Golfanac, we stacked our lineup with bent specialists (golfers that perform much better on bentgrass in comparison to bermuda). Some others in the field with good bentgrass history include Justin Rose, Jimmy Walker, Kevin Chappell, Bill Haas, Will Wilcox, and Russell Knox.
Handpicked Value Plays
Vijay Singh ($6,200) … He let me down last week, but I’m standing my ground with the big Fijian. He’s the only golfer in the field that has been apart of all four years the Presidents Cup was hosted by RTJ Golf Club. That experience could prove valuable on a course where most of the field is coming in blind.
Chad Campbell ($7,400) … Campbell is playing like it’s 2005 again, posting eight straight top 50s, including a couple top 15s along that stretch. Given the weakness of this field, Campbell can be locked into cash games at this bargain-bin price.
Chris Stroud ($7,800) … Only six golfers in the field have gained more strokes over the field over the past eight weeks of stroke-play events on the PGA TOUR. The knock on Stroud early in the season was his surprising inconsistency. Luckily, his form has returned and he’s starting to look more like 2013 and 2014 Stroud…a golfer that went 37-for-51 over those two seasons.

RBC Canadian Open Fantasy Preview
The Open Championship was a massive success last week, other than the Monday finish and Zach freakin’ Johnson taking home the title. Just kidding, but seriously, I don’t like getting sandbagged like that from ZJ.
The PGA TOUR wants players get the most out of their passports, so they head to Canada rather than returning to the United States.
The course is Glen Abbey Golf Club. There are some good nuggets in the fantasy golfanac below about how the course will be set up this week. It is a par 72, it last hosted in 2013. Before that it did the honors of hosting in 2009, 2008, 2004, and 2000. The greens will be split between bentgrass and poa annua, which is very unusual and will be interesting to see how that plays out.
Take a look at the Fantasy Golfanac as well to get some additional research.
Players to Watch
Tony Finau… The bomber returns to action after taking a well deserved rest last week. Prior to that he rattled off top 25s in seven of his last eight starts. Early performance shows he performs much better on bentgrass and he can surely take advantage of the par 5s this week and drop in an eagle or two perhaps. I am all-in on Finau this week (DraftKings, One-and-Done, Yahoo, Everything).
Team RBC… A lot of the top-tier talent this week is in the field because they are part of Team RBC. This includes guys like Luke Donald, Jim Furyk, Matt Kuchar, Graeme McDowell, Ernie Els, Ryan Palmer, and the newest member Jason Day. There are plenty of Canadians apart of the team as well, but you have to think they wouldn’t miss this event, regardless. This group of stars is pure class, but they may also suffer from jet-lag after a Monday finish. I’m no doctor, but I would give him a slight downgrade this week. Just slight, though.
Graham DeLaet… GDL is also apart of team RBC mentioned above. He’s rounded back into form just in time and think he makes for a great play in all formats this week.
Jonas Blixt…It’s hard to find trends that work with this Swede but we may have some dialed in this week. He performs better on par 72s, better against weak fields, and better on bentgrass. Jonas is our specialist of the week that could “come out of nowhere” to contend.
Brendon de Jonge… I’m finally off the Zimba train after continual letdown this past month. No top 20s since the RBC Heritage in April. FADE.
Hunter Mahan… Glen Abbey owes him a win after he withdrew while holding the 36-hole lead in 2013. The problem is that his form is out of whack. This could be the week he pieces his game back together.
20/20 Club… This week is strange in that Glen Abbey has only hosted five times since 2000. If we use those results as our course history section of the 20/20 Club then nobody fits the mold this week. If we just look at the Canadian Open tournament history over the past five years, then Scott Piercy and Andres Romero both join the club this week. I will be adding a very bold asterisk to these plays as course history is really what we are looking for.
Scott Pinckney…This youngster has swag for days and three top 10s to boot. I like his chances to grab a top 25 this week.
Emiliano Grillo… Not in the DraftKings pool this week but this youngster is swinging a hot club. Mostly overseas on Euro Tour, but he also finished T10 last week at the Barbasol and runner-up in Puerto Rico earlier this year. Pay very close attention this week because he could be playing full time on the PGA TOUR before long.
Rory Sabbatini… His last two starts at Glen Abbey are T12 and T6 finishes. It also helps that he’s posted four top 30s in his last six starts. Bingo.
Steve Stricker…. The Wisconsite has five top 20s at this event in 11 tries. It’s just a hop, skip, and a jump north of the border for him. Like much of the field this week, the problem is his form. Still searching for his first top 25 this season.
Jon Curran … The Northeastern feels comfortable on bentgrass greens since you can’t really use Bermuda up north. With five top 10s on the season, a great boom-or-bust GPP play this week.
Charley Hoffman… Get back on Mister Green Gloves. Hoffman missed two straight cuts (both at majors). Let’s move on and forget about those weeks. Hoffman crushes par 72s and weak fields. Dont’ sleep.
Austin Cook… Is he the next Patrick Reed? He makes his way into tournaments via Monday qualifiers and top-10 exemptions. Not an the DraftKings pool this week, but another name to watch moving forward.
RBC Canadian Open Cheatsheet… Head over to Daily Fantasy Solutions and grab this week’s DraftKings cheatsheet for just five bucks. This includes guys that fit the stat profile, golfers that are in good form, course history, recommended cash game targets and more! I love hearing about the success people are having with the weekly DraftKings cheatsheet so check it out!

RBC Canadian Open DraftKings Picks
Last week longtime friend of the blog, sixbits, took home first place in the Future of Fantasy Golf Tour event. Bravo! He will get his choice of prizes. Spots are filling up fast this week so hop in the contest now if you haven’t done so yet.
Now let’s have a look at DraftKings this week to see what we can piece together for their $350K Drive the Green that cost just $3 to enter.
Found the Form
Brooks Koepka ($9300)… 10th-18th-3rd-52nd-16th
Tony Finau ($9200)… MC-13th-25th-14th-8th
Kevin Chappell ($7300)… 8th-37th-46th-22nd-49th
Chris Stroud ($8000)… 32nd-5th-37th-10th-MC
Greg Owen ($7000)… 20th-6th-MC-2nd-46th
Graham DeLaet ($9000)… 68th-37th-4th-26th-22nd
Let’s ride the hot club and see where it takes up. With no commitments in daily fantasy golf we are able to lock and reload each and every week. Others in form include Scott Piercy, Andres Romero, Jason Day, Luke Donald, Chad Campbell, and Ryan Palmer.
Golden Bear Design
Jim Furyk ($10700)… 41.07 SG:Total in last 16 Nicklaus rounds
Luke Donald ($9600)… 36.89 SG:Total in last 20 Nicklaus rounds
Matt Kuchar ($10100)… 36.07 SG:Total in last 16 Nicklaus rounds
Rory Sabbatini ($7100)… 21.67 SG:Total in last 20 Nicklaus rounds
Stewart Cink ($6200)… 10.52 SG:Total in last 24 Nicklaus rounds
Jim Herman ($6200)… 11.00 SG:Total in last 8 Nicklaus rounds
With Glen Abbey only hosting five times since 2000, I thought I would switch it up this week. This team looks at golfers that have success at Jack Nicklaus designed courses since the start of the 2013-14 season. Others just missing out on the team include Martin Flores, Camilo Villegas, Troy Merritt, Brian Harman, Ryan Palmer, Daniel Summerhays, and John Huh.
Handpicked Value Plays
Vijay Singh ($6,200) … He’s rounding back into form with a pair of top 20s over his last four and now returns to a course where he’s won in the past. Firing up the old Fijian as a top sleeper this week.
Jerry Kelly ($7,900) … Mr. JK is not a young pup anymore but he does has a lot of factors on his side this week. He’s nearly a shot better per round against weak fields. He’s half a stroke better per round on par 72s and slightly better on bentgrass. He’s got a Glen Abbey top five on his resume as well! Yeehaww.
Adam Hadwin ($6,500) … Many southern boys find themselves contending down South on bermuda. Some guys like Sneds and Jimmy Walker prefer the West Coast and their poa annua greens. Hadwin is more of a bentgrass type of guy. It makes sense given his Canadian roots. He will feel right at home geographically this week, so fire him up in large-pool contests!

The Open Championship Fantasy Preview
Set your alarms, folks. It’s time to wake up at the Crackkk of dawn to watch some high-quality golf. Yes, that was a very small Varsity Blues reference. This week we skip across the pond to Scotland for the Open Championship at St. Andrew’s Old Course. I’ve also thrown in my top 10 for the inaugural Barbasol Championship for anyone needing a One-and-Done pick.
It’s a simple course, but not easy. It may be easy by major championship standards, but still difficult in the grand scheme of things. The weather always dictates HOW easy. This week the forecast calls for a lot of wind, so keep your eyes on that forecast.
These Wind Performance Numbers may be of help this week if you need a tiebreaker, but should not be your starting point.
Take a look at the Fantasy Golfanac as well to get some additional angles.
Players to Watch
Sergio Garcia… He’s got that monkey on his shoulder that keeps mocking him, but The Open Championship is the most likely landing point for a major…if he ever gets one. He’s proclaimed himself as a great rain player in the past, if that arises, and wind is right near that boat. I like the Spaniard to weather the storm this week. Full steam ahead!
Jordan Spieth… He’s not human but even a robot suffers from jetlag sometimes. They say for every time zone you travel, you need five days for your body to recover completely. Okay I just made that up, but I did hear a stat at some point in my life about the true affects of jet lag. Sorry I cant cite that here. Anyway, Spieth is trying to do the near impossible and capture a third straight major while also coming off a win in North America. Just tough situation to be in for the Golden Boy this week.
Henrik Stenson… Still majorless but this is one of the top courses for him to breakthrough that wall. He finished third here last time and he arrived in much worse form that year.
Danny Willett…His form is middling recently, but he’s got a lot of St. Andrews history and has a top 15 on his Open resume.
Gary Woodland… Could be sneaky, sneaky this week. He’s long off the tee, likes playing in the wind (there is nothing to block the wind in Kansas), and has finished top 40 in each of his first three Open Championship attempts.
Kevin Kisner… I wish he had some Open Championship experience because his form is through the roof. If we’re looking at first-timers only, I’d put my money on Kisner.
20/20 Club… This week is interesting when it comes to the 20/20 club. Give the Open course rotation, can we really use tournament history? If we do then Dustin Johnson fits the bill, gaining 45 strokes over his last five Opens and 31 over his last 12 recent rounds. If we stretch the rules and use rounds only at St. Andrews and also allow European Tour Form then Shane Lowry is the man. Give both a boost this week.
Billy Horschel… Billy Ho is still in good form, but he did not crack the top 25. He’s slowly rising up my board as the week progresses though. He’s in great form and you can usually trust a Florida guy when it comes to playing in the wind.
Ryan Palmer… Just missed out on the top 25, but his power off the tee combined with aggressiveness to fire at greens makes him a solid sleeper this week.
Martin Kaymer… He’s a wildcard week-to-week but this course is one exception. He finished top 10 here last time it hosted and has won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
Marc Leishman…. He’s going to fly under the radar but he’s some things in his favor. He finished T5 at last year’s open. He’s a self-confessed wind player, so no complaining from the Aussie when the wind inevitably picks up. Lastly, he’s aggressive. He’s one of the yearly top 25 in going for the green statistic. That’s very important on this course layout.
Marc Warren … He’s got good major history on his resume, and is playing in his homeland of Scotland. Warren should take the honors of best Scot this week.
Brandt Snedeker… He’s not long off the tee but thrives on courses that allow easy fairway access off the tee. This gives him the chance to pepper the greens and let his putter do the work.
Open Championship Cheatsheet… Head over to Daily Fantasy Solutions and grab this week’s DraftKings cheatsheet for just five bucks. This includes guys that fit the stat profile, golfers that are in good form, course history, recommended cash game targets and more! I love hearing about the success people are having with the weekly DraftKings cheatsheet so check it out!

The Open Championship DraftKings Picks
For anyone still holding out on DraftKings, don’t be a dummy. Get in this week and play in the Millionaire Maker contest. You put in $20, pick six golfers, and then you go home $1,000,000 richer. Sounds easy, right?
Last week on the Future of Fantasy Golf Tour we had Thomefan251 take home his first victory. Congrats, Troy, and give him a follow on Twitter if you’re feeling it. This week is the third major of the season, that means another prize week. The top scoring lineup this week will get their choice of DK Swag or choice of golf balls. Comment at the bottom if you need an invite.
Form Fitting
Jordan Spieth ($12000)… 1st-1st-3rd-30th-2nd
Kevin Kisner ($7000)… 35th-2nd-12th-8th-5th
Brandt Snedeker ($8300)… 10th-8th-6th-2nd-MC
Soren Kjeldsen ($6300)… 41st-15th-47th-2nd-1st
James Morrison ($6800)… MC-2nd-11th-24th-MC
Paul Casey ($9200)… 37th-2nd-39th-43rd-5th
Want to ride the hot hand? Might not be the best approach given the switch overseas and transition to links golf, but here they are. I included two Euro Form guys to keep it fresh. Some other top form guys include Zach Johnson, Robert Streb, Dustin Johnson, Billy Horschel, Danny Lee, Keegan Bradley, Rafael Cabrera-Bello, Thongchai Jaidee, Byeong-Hun An, Tommy Fleetwood, Francesco Molinari, and Bernd Wiesberger.
Links Specialistos
Dustin Johnson ($11400)… 60.32 SG:Total in last 20 links rounds
Graeme McDowell ($7600)… 24.21 SG:Total in last 14 links rounds
Shane Lowry ($78100)… 28.65 SG:Total in last 14 links rounds
Keegan Bradley ($7400)… 24.19 SG:Total in last 12 links rounds
Charl Schwartzel($7900)… 24.96 SG:Total in last 10 links rounds
Victor Dubuisson ($7500)… 23.21 SG:Total in last 14 links rounds
Oo I trust G-Mac this week? Absolutely not. But in one or two lineups, why not? This is The Open after all. No better place for him to return to form. Some other top links golfers include Jim Furyk, Adam Scott, Jimmy Walker, Brandt Snedeker, Jason Day, Sergio Garcia, Patrick Reed, Rickie Fowler, and Francesco Molinari.
Handpicked Value Plays
Carl Pettersson ($6,300) … Laugh all you want, but Carl P is heating up and has some sneaky good Open history. He is 5-for-6 in his British Open career. He’s posted two top 15s in his last three starts. That’s a solid combo for someone priced less than a McChicken.
Alexander Levy ($6,800) … He’s getting overlooked this week in favor of other Euros like Wiesberger, Cabrera-Bello, and Fleetwood. I do love Fleetwood this week but he’s still very young and is very open on Twitter about not enjoying windy conditions. Levy on the other hand is fresh off a Bastille Day celebration and has finished top 30 in his first two career majors. Go France!
David Howell ($6,400) … He’s got the St. Andrews history taken care of at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. He finished third in the inaugural running and has gained 21.22 strokes over the field during his last nine rounds at the Old Course. That includes a win at the 2013 ADLC. He also comes in 13th on the Euro Tour form list. Boom!
