Letter from Master Cheng Yen: COVID-19 pandemic

In the letter, Dharma Master Cheng Yen encourages all Tzu Chi volunteers to gather people’s love together to help mitigate this pandemic. At this time, we need to have a peaceful mind. As we stay at home, we should “stop, listen and read.” We must “stop” going out while putting more time into “listening” and “reading” the Buddha’s teachings. This is like we must stop creating bad karma, and continually relearn the Dharma. By opening up our hearts and minds, we’ll be able to truly take in the Dharma which will nourish our wisdom-life. And, when you open your heart and give rise to wisdom, it’s like you and I are together in the same space all the time.

In gratitude to Buddha, our parents, and all sentient beings

This year, Tzu Chi is celebrating its 55th anniversary. On Sunday, May 9, Tzu Chi will hold “Buddha Day Ceremony” worldwide to celebrate the Buddha Day, Mother’s Day, and Tzu Chi Day. The origin of the annual celebration of the three occasions on the second Sunday of May dates back to 1996, the year of Tzu Chi's 30th anniversary.

Po-Wen Yen: I was at the 0402 Train Derailment Incident Site

"I only have this one daughter!" After losing her only daughter in the 0402 Taroko train derailment incident, the cries of a single mother, heartbroken, echoed in my mind. I was there as the volunteers accompanied her, comforted her, and held her as she wept. At the cries, I had turned my head away, fearing my emotions would get the better of me. As I only have one daughter as well, if ever faced with such a tragedy, would I able to bear such pain and grief?
