Dharma Master Cheng Yen Receives Honorary Doctorate

Dharma Master Cheng Yen, founder of the Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation, received an Honorary Doctorate in Humanities from the National Chung Cheng University (CCU) on January 7, 2019, at the Dalin Tzu Chi Hospital. This award recognizes her dedication to serving society and caring for people in need around the world with the spirit of selfless great love.

Tzu Chi Volunteers in Argentina Serve Food in Soup Kitchen

Tzu Chi volunteers in Argentina have for the last four years been serving food in a food kitchen once a month. Initially, the recipients did not like the vegetarian food they prepared – but they have adjusted the menu and now everything is eaten.

A School for Syrian Children in Istanbul Becomes Official

On November 26, 2018, a school for Syrian refugees set up by the government of Sultangazi, Syrian teachers, and the Tzu Chi Foundation and in Istanbul became an official institution approved by an American educational institute. A nameplate unveiling ceremony was held that day – OZEL EL MENAHEL MILLETLERARASI ORTAOKULU, SULTANGAZI, ISTANBUL. Attending the event at the Menahel International School were the Deputy Governor of Kayseri Province Mr. Ali Uslanmaz: Health Director of Sultangazi City, Mr. Emrah Eray: Syrian Professor Mr. Cuma: a team of Tzu Chi volunteers: 1,600 students and teachers. The day also marked the start of a new semester. With this new status, the students will receive an official diploma after they graduate.

Tzu Chi Helps Survivors of Taiwan Railway Accident

Volunteers of the Tzu Chi Foundation are working hard to help the survivors of a train crash in eastern Taiwan, which left 18 dead and 187 injured. They are caring for the injured and set up a service center to provide blankets, warm food and hot ginger tea. They have set up a medical station to care for those working on the rescue operation. Dharma Masters went to a funeral home to show their respects to the deceased.

Tzu Chi Relief Goods Arrive in Indonesia

The Tzu Chi Foundation has started to deliver relief goods to Indonesia -- instant rice and eco-friendly blankets. Just after 5.00 p.m. on September 28, the quake, with a magnitude of 7.5, struck the province of Central Sulawesi; it generated a powerful tsunami. More than 1,300 people were killed and hundreds are seriously injured.

Tzu Chi Begins Relief Effort for Indonesian Earthquake Survivors

The Tzu Chi Foundation has begun its relief for the victims of the devastating earthquake in Indonesia. Just after 5.00 p.m. on September 28, the quake, with a magnitude of 7.5, struck the province of Central Sulawesi; it generated a powerful tsunami. More than 800 people were killed and the death toll is likely to rise, according to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency. At least 500 people are seriously injured.

Tzu Chi Holds Medical Clinics, Gives Relief Goods in Indonesia

Volunteers of the Tzu Chi Foundation held three free medical clinics and distributed relief goods to residents of Lombok island in Indonesia which has been struck by many earthquakes since July. It was their second recent relief operation on the island.

Tzu Chi Sets up Water Purification System in Laos

Volunteers of the Tzu Chi set up a water purification system for an area of rural Laos that had been deprived of clean water by the collapse of a dam. A total of 11 villages had been without a regular supply of water for more than a month.
