Artists! There’s a good chance we’re going to lose the rights to our work unless we stop legislation that’s being proposed to congress. This has the potential to infect every country in the world. We need your help to stop this as soon as possible! Brad Holland is an expert in this new legislation and explains why artists worldwide will suffer if our current copyright law is replaced by the new proposals.

Epic Indie Site Spotlight: Griot Enterprises

This Epic Indie Site Spotlight is Griot Enterprises!  I’ve been a fan of Jiba Molei Anderson, MFA, / Owner of Griot Enterprises. So here we go!

GRIOT ENTERPRISES
Per the site:
“We tell great stories…

We have seen many great African American superheroes in comics,

but we never saw an iconic African American superhero team. We didn’t have our Justice League, our Avengers. We, as comic book fans of color, young and old, didn’t have a universe where our heroes reside…

… Griot Enterprises fills that void.

GRIOT ENTERPRISES publishes:

Art is important!

Artistic expression is particularly important to the youth and their development.  Learning to tap into their creativity and utilize their talents; gives the Youth the tools to use their Voice!  Art assists in building their confidence to tell their stories and perspectives; individually and collectively.  We as a community must support these young artists and their creativity!   We must salute the efforts of those that directly, ‘roll up their sleeves’ and try to share and teach the children; by giving their time, their energy and love.

Shawn Alleyne / Pyroglyphics Studio has partnered with Free Libraries of Philadelphia to bring FREE workshops to area youth.  Basic comic book art, storytelling and more will be covered. The EIGHT #1 by AHR Visions, LLC – Comic Book Review

8 cover

In a previous review, I stated, “The Eight #0 is a good appetizer for what seems to be a grand scale event.” I’m glad to say issue #2 is something a comic book fan can sink their teeth into. (Hey, I know its cliché, but I had to follow through with the food theme!)

In The EIGHT #1, (Abdul H. Rashid /AHR Visions, L.L.C.) more details are revealed about The Eight are and their latest challenge! This is done with flashback storytelling that is smooth and effortless. The story begins with action and then leads into the mythological origins and premise of the universe through the relationship of two celestial brothers. They are among the Teachers tasked with informing humanity. But, one brother named Set, doesn’t see humanity as worth their effort. Obviously, this has caused friction and now his brother Ra is assigned to deliver a befitting punishment. Their relationship, to say the least, is complicated.

What Set has ‘set’ in motion, underscores the conflict our heroes, The Eight must deal with in modern times. What is that conflict? If you read The Eight #0, you would’ve known, what continues in this issue is the worldwide assassinations of Immortals that protect Earth. The Eight are among those Immortals called United and they must save themselves and uncover the Evil behind the murders.

The EIGHT is a good comic book series! Action, super-powered heroes and intriguing storyline! Plus, the artwork of Abdul H. Rashid with colors handled by Alexander Cutri has a distinct visual style that I enjoy.

I’m sure you will be hooked too!

Creator Spotlight – Yvan Quinet, Professional Digital Artist

Peace, here is another insightful interview of an artist that I follow on DeviantArt. Hailing from Switzerland is Yvan Quinet aka Wyv! A professional in digital art, Yvan’s art is exciting, other level science-fiction! Take a read and enjoy the visuals! Readers Note: Yvan did an exclusive piece of art, never before seen, until now! It is an exclusive!  Check for it below :) !   Thanks Yvan!

Did Art choose you or did you choose Art? I’m not sure, probably both. Since childhood, I’ve been attracted by beautiful drawings. My first visual shock and my first love was for comics and superheroes, I was 6 year old. It is from that moment, I began gently to draw. The second shock and most powerful emotional and visual was the manga Akira. It was in 1990 and I was 14 years old. I discovered a different world, a new kind of hero, universe, designs, moral and super powers. The framing and cutting of the action was very different and the dynamics was extraordinary for me. So it allowed me to discover other designers and talented authors. Finally, as I discovered all this, I would say it is Art that found me.

You have a very distinct style. How did you develop your style? Honestly, I do not know how I developed my style. I draw only what I like. I guess, I’m subconsciously influenced by everything I appreciate. There are a lot of artists that I currently enjoy! The first artists who inspired me are John Byrne, Arthur Adams, Todd McFarlane, Katsuhiro Otomo, Kentarou Miura, Yukito Kishiro, Tetsuo Hara, Takehiko Inoue, Eiichiro Oda and Akira Toriyama. Of course, there are other media that influences me like movies, anime, games and t.v. series.

EXCLUSIVE ART!!

Wyv010815

What are some of the projects you’ve worked on? A lot of little things in my town and several for independent video games company like Robotoki LLC, Decision Point Games, Game Bakers, Fluxostudio, etc

What genres do you most enjoy watching and creating? Science-fiction, post-apocalyptic, cybernetic and superheroes.

Do you have any personal project? If so, what are they? Yes, I have two comics project. The first is called “ Last Number “but unfortunately for now on “standby” because of problems with the editor. The second is called “ExoEx” which tells the adventures of a group of pirates planet discoverers.

What is you dream project? It’s not about drawing but I dream to direct a sci-fi movie with a big budget. The cinema is my second great passion tied with drawing. But my country, there is almost no infrastructure and no funding to develop a science fiction movie…

Here’s a fun question.  Name a mainstream project/character or an independent project and/or character that you’d love to work on or revamp and what would you do to put your twist on it?  I’d love to direct an Aliens vs Predator movie remake. I am a very big fan of these two franchises. I find that the previous “vs” movies are far from honoring these characters. The pitch would have been simple ; in the future, a colonial marines space ship carrying two prototypes of new weapons. One face-hugger and one xenomorphe, crashed on one of the planets owned by the Yautja (Predator). And I think, if I had to put my twist, I probably would add a small cyborg but not an android.

For the independent artist, how has technology affected the way you are able to do business or make progress on your art?  For example, but not limited to: Finding Clients? Artistic Collaboration? Getting work done? For me, technology has affected me greatly and in a very positive way. To be honest, for a long time I have not exercised my art, mainly because of the available means of expression. I’m very bad with a real brush and real painting. But as soon as I bought my first tablet Cintiq; I could finally begin to express myself more freely. For me, it is a source of freedom and creativity unmatched. The icing on the cake is that, the technology also has allowed me to share my works with a very large number of people. So I can find more clients, more artist colleagues and more work.

What are your favorite quotes or philosophies of life that help you improve as a person or artist? Do a job that you like, if possible and don’t give up your dreams.

Is there anything else that you want the readers to know?

Just thank you very much everyone for your support and I hope that my work will continue to please you ! All the Best!
