Support Bar Star City | An Indie Sci-Fi Film

Ytasha L. Womack is a Visionary; Artist, Author, Writer and Director. She is the author of the sci-fi book, Rayla 2212 and Afrofuturism: The World Of Black Sci-Fi & Fantasy Culture. Ms. Womack has directed previous films, one of which was nominated for Best Film at The American Black Film Fest. Her latest project is Bar Star City, an Indie Sci-Fi Film!
About Bar Star City:
A goddess, a war veteran and the captain of a spaceship meet in a bar…
Bar Star City is a sci-fi film with Afrofuturist themes. It looks at love, deception, memory and alienation among a group of bar regulars with unique, quirky personalities, who just want a place to call home.
What I LOVE about the trailer is a) The Science Fiction story/premise with Blacks/People of African Descent actors/actresses! That’s not often! and b) The storytelling element of Jazz! I instantly thought of Spike Lee’s films because Jazz has been a strong element in his storytelling. Ms. Womack is bringing the futuristic soul and imagiative element of jazz as a character..in a sci-fi movie!! Awesome!!
This looks like an exciting project shot entirely in Chicago, a city with unique architecture, neighborhoods and nuances that will be great to see on film.
Ytasha L. Womack is looking for supporters and backers to help fund additional pre-production! If you want strong and unique stories of characters that look like you: then you must support the efforts and projects that will bring the dream to reality. I will!

C2E2 2015 Review!
This year’s event, number 6 if you’re counting was massive! There was something for everyone! From Cosplaying attendees and contests, Q&A Sessions of every kind! There was a chance to see/meet Jason Momoa (Game Of Thrones, Aquaman), CM Punk (ex-WWE Champion, Actor/Writer), Matt Dillon (Actor), Chad Coleman (Walking Dead, Treadwater), Ming-Na Wen (Agents Of SHIELD), Face-Off Season 8 Winner, J. Anthony Kosar (Kosart Studios) and many more.
The majors were definitely representing their products, but I love seeing what the independent companies are putting together. A few were Dark Rose Studios (Creators of Treadwater), Athlitacomics (Publishers of The Protectors/ Owned by NFL Player Israel Idonije), And..Action Entertainment (Publisher of Legend Of The Mantamaji) and Chef/Trainer – Eric Paul Meredith (Health Heroes).
Of course, Artist Alley is definitely a fan favorite! There we caught up with Anthony Piper (AntBoy) / Creator of Trill League. There was Ashley A. Woods (Millenium War, Dziva Jones), Ytasha L. Womack (Rayla 2212 series), N. Steven Harris (Ajala), Imaginos Studios (Imaginos Plus), Todd Black (The Guardians), Sean O’Neill (Creator Of Rocket Robinson And The Pharaoh’s Fortune) and many more! My son and I enjoyed the sights and sounds of C2E2! Here are some of the images he captured!

The Eight, Skorn and The Black Rose – Indie Comic Book Reviews
The Eight, Skorn & The Black Rose by Abdul H. Rashid / AHR Visions, L.L.C. are just a few of the offerings from this visual media company. Below are my thoughts on their preview issues.
——————-
Securing The World From The Ever-Present Threat of Evil Supernatural & Other-worldly forces…a race of Immortals fight non-stop to sustain balance. Amongst them..an Elite unit exists! The Eight!
The Eight #0 – The Last Transmission Of David Essex begins in a very cinematic way with a flashback served as a pre-recorded digital feed. Something or someone has attacked a space base and nothing can seem to stop it! The Eight #0 is a good appetizer for what seems to be a grand scale event. I liked the flashback premise and eagerly wanted to know more. With only 7 pages of actual story, I am expecting more backstory and reveals of who The Eight are. There is a full page promo attached showing 8 males, but I will have to wait and see if these are the heroes. Now I will say, if those are the heroes, seeing 8 males and not one female, throws me a bit, but redemption comes in the next review below……
——————-
Dedicated to a Self-Imposed Mission to Protect those who cannot protect themselves, Angelica Salazar vows to show the criminal blight that a fury is upon it!
Skorn #0 – Curtain Rises opens with a silhouette of a woman getting dressed in a hero outfit and ends with a dynamic pose of the street vigilante. The narrative’s premise is one where the heroine is being setup but to what end and what reason, is not revealed..yet. Speaking of reveal in Skorn #0, Abdul has a pinup of Issue #1 with another full view of the heroine, Skorn and she looks SICK!! I can’t wait to see how she develops.
——————-
Solomon Moor. Billionaire. Philanthropist. Businessman. Crime-Lord? Under the guise of a mysterious underworld figure, both feared and respected by the criminal society, Moor works to tear down the vile structure from the inside out. But, he walks the fine line between hero and villain.
The Black Rose #0 – Party Break opens with the high-tech survelliance of a criminal by Solomon. Issue #0 is very short without much detail but the next issue will hopefully delve into who Solomon Moor is and how he came to be a crime lord.
The AHR Visions’ comic book previews look very promising. The art work and colors look good, compliments of Abdul H. Rashid and Alexander Cutri! Support Indie Creators and Their Projects! Stay tuned and learn more about AHR Vision’s upcoming releases here:

DayBlack– Indie Comic Book Review
There are many books, that I’d like to see as a live action show, webseries etc…and DayBlack is definitely worthy! The book series by Keef Cross/Rosarium Publishing, centers around a former slave and vampire named Merce who lives in small, modern town in Georgia called DayBlack. The name itself makes, for a perfect setting for Merce (you must read to understand why).
Merce’s lifestyle as a tattoo artist and his eating habits make him a very interesting character. I would love to go into details about the 3 issues I’ve read, but that would spoil the suprises. Courtesy of Keef Cross, the art visuals are amazing! The unique, b&w noir style; minimum color with the exceptioin of splashes/touches of red is a storytelling element that enhances the project.
Keef Cross and Rosarium Publishing have a great concept and I look forward to learning more about Merce and DayBlack. Support Indie Creators and Their Projects! Stay tuned and learn more about Planet Random’s upcoming releases here:

Creative Activism: The Glory of COMMON Sense & LEGEND!
Congrats to Chicago’s Native Son and Hip Hop Artist/Actor, Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr. aka COMMON! Common and John Legend scored a Golden Globe Win for Best Original Song, “Glory” for the awesome film Selma, directed by Ava DuVernay.
Artistry and Activism can co-exist and the results are inspiring. Often, outside of the creative medium, there is a tendency for artists to be ignored and not taken seriously concerning issues that affect us all. COMMON has throughout his career attempted to enrich his listeners and fans, through his music and the Common Ground Foundation. For the artists that choose to use their voices, talents, resources and opportunities to deliver a message of civic engagement and community activism, I salute them! We need to support Art their endeavors, after all, there are more important things to think about besides; money, parties, cars, reality shows etc.

Punx Of Rage – Indie Comic Book Review
Joe Currie’s Strictly Underground Comics has a nice roster of characters and this offering concentrates on Punx Of Rage. The young, action heroes called JawBreakahs, live in and protect Rage City. Using their martial art and skateboarding skills, they stand up to a group of street thugs that are harassing a young woman on a Summer day. This leads to a greater confrontation that sees the arrival of Dodger, the massive leader of the group and a certified, melee hero. Justice is about to be served with beat-downs! I can tell Joe really enjoys writing about the characters. There is a nice backstory peek of who I believe is the main villain.
I enjoyed the art (lines & colors), as well. Joe has included some bonus pin-up art. Highlighted artists include; Stanley Weaver, Glyph Sputnik and Corey Greene. I can’t wait to read Punx Of Rage #2! Urban Myth: The Gifting – Indie Comic Book Review
Planet Random presents Urban Myth: The Gifting by Raymond Ayala & Images by Paulo Barrios
I’m proud to say, (check the credits), that I am a Kickstarter Backer of Urban Myth: The Gifting the Graphic Novel project by Creator/Publisher Raymond Ayala / Planet Random. The Gifting follows a group of youth, empowered with powers and talents, who become New Olympians in a modern, urban setting. This 1st book and Kickstarter Special, did not disappoint with the nonstop action; quick peeks into each individual’s day as they are affected by Nathaniel / Alpha’s presence, that mysteriously gives them powers.
The art is by Paulo Barrios and colors by Luis Guerrero, Eddy Swan and Aaron James. The cover is a favorite of mine! I wish there was more immediate insight into the source of the Power, but Raymond Ayala’s story is rich with new characters/heroes; Alpha, Mars, Flame, Merc, Victory and Urbanite. Jaycen Wise Field Guide 4.0 – Indie Comic Book Review
Jaycen Wise Field Guide 4.0 (Creative Team: BlackOps – Richard G. Tyler II/Bro. Uraeus & Mshindo Heru Kuumba I & Charlie ‘Fab’ Goublie)
Sometime ago, I purchased this digital download and it is an excellent promo / art book / artist expose / comic book / short story book..whew! This book has it all! Richard Tyler has done an excellent job quarterbacking a professional and creative project highlighting his flagship project and hero, Jaycen Wise. The Field Guide allows the reader to become greatly familiar with The Immortal, A Scholar and Epic Hero. Richard has balanced his personal testimony and character biography with unique art pinups that accentuate the vast storytelling potential of Jaycen Wise.
The BlackOps’ artistic lead and Master Illustrator/Colorist, Mshindo Heru Kuumba I. represents with numerous pieces, but also sharing art credit are; Charlie ‘Fab’ Goublie, Chris Bourassa, John Jennings, Standigo, Mase and others. Trust me, there are some great looking concept and book cover art in this book!
To expand the mythology of Jaycen Wise, Richard has included short comic stories; Jaycen Wise and The Eye Of The Storm and Jaycen Wise: On The Road To Infinity. Short but full of action, the line art by Fab with Mshindo colors create a unique comic look. Also, there are stories of prose, co-written by Indie Publisher and Writer, Milton Davis entitled Jaycen Wise And The Necklace Of Asanamek and Jaycen Wise And The Ghosts Of Zezura.
A notable image is a large spread of African Children holding Jaycen Wise swag and writing supplies. This represents The BlackOps’ philosophy that the youth need heroes, that are a reflection of their ideas and dreams. The Jaycen Wise Field Guide 4.0 is an achievement of character development, great art and Artistic activism! Great collaboration by BlackOps: Bro. Uraeus/Richard Tyler and Mshindo!
