PUNX of RAGE BlogTalk Radio

PUNX of RAGE RADIO is co-produced/directed by two Chicago creators. I love when artists collaborate on projects. To unite individual tastes, ideas and concepts; somehow avoiding ego, usually creates larger projects that can’t do anything but enrich the world.  Joe Robinson Currie is a career long comic book publisher of Strictly Underground Comics. In fact, the name, PUNX of RAGE directly comes from his flagship IP (intellectual property) of the same name.  Chris Turner is a talented illustrator that has also contributed to Joe’s projects and other creators. Mr Turner is also busy working on his own IP called Dial Exces.

PUNX of RAGE RADIO has existed since November 2017 on the BlogTalk Radio format.  What are they about? Per their BlogTalk page, “PUNX of RAGE | Cinema, Comics Culture – Covering All topics Comic Book and Graphic Novel related including techniques and tips for creating comic books.

What’s great is the chemistry. They are both laid back but clearly they get amped up if it is a topic they feel strongly about.  Since their first show, they have covered a variety of topics; “The Art Of Collaboration”, “Why We Love Comics”, “Marketing & Distribution”, “The Impact Of Image Comics” and more. They have interviewed incredible talented artists such as Filmmaker and Afrofuturist Author and Speaker, Ytasha Womack.  They also have shows in between the interviews called The Chop Shop where they talk about any entertainment news, especially pertaining to comics and the industry.

PUNX of RAGE Radio can be heard every Friday Night here > PUNX of RAGE Radio , check the page for times in your area. If you love comics and great conversation check out their shows.  OR, if you are a comic book creator, artist, writer etc. contact them for interviews. Call in and support with your thoughts and feedback.

Blaque Butterfli – Your Wings Are Ready

Blaque Butterfli – Your Wings Are Ready is the name and project title of the gifted Chicago poet, Blaque Butterfli (Taneesha Jackson).  Learn more about her upcoming release below. She was gracious enough to answer a few questions.

What was your earliest beginning as a writer/poet?  I would say I got my first shot at poetry in the 6th grade. I had to write a poem about the color red for an assignment. Even then, i was excited about it.

Early influences?  It all started with Mother Goose.  My mother bought one with all the nursery rhymes in there and I became fascinated with it.  I read them every day and was always quoting lines from them. I became fascinated with words and putting together in sentences and clever phrases.  I was a big fan of hip hop. KRS1 is my one of my favorites. Love songs were always deep, so anyone who sung ballads held my attention.

Most memorable performance?  My very first showcase was in March of 2016.  It was my teammate’s debut cd release and the show surrounding it was called HerStory. My mentor pushed me to write a love piece, something I had not talked about since coming on the poetry scene. I was very against it but it turned out to be my best performance!

Favorite piece that you’ve done? Its a tie between my testimonial piece (Sold Out) and the piece i wrote for black men (Black Man).

Speak about the concept of you latest project?   Your Wings Are Ready is about a poet who first of all, NEVER wanted to be a spoken word artist! She was a shy girl who with a fear of being in front of people and who wasn’t much of a talker in front of strangers and didn’t like attention. She just wanted to write a few books and put them out. It was her prayer to God but then God responded by asking her who’s going to buy you book, if they don’t know who you are?  Then God told her she needed to open her mouth. Time to fly, hence the name Blaque Butterfli.

Your future aspirations? Already working on my 2nd cd and writing a book. Working with my husband who is also a spoken word artist but he is also a singer and musician. When we perform together, we are called Rhema Rhetoric. We do it as ministry. So many doors are opening and people are loving the idea of the husband and wife team. Many married couples ministries invite us out so we look forward to building on that.

Lastly, where can you be found on social media?  FB: Taneesha Jackson Also my fan page: Blaque Butterfli Ink Instagram: Blaque_Butterfli7207 Twitter: @BBFlyyy7207

Thank you Blaque Butterfli for your time!  Congrats and continued Success!

BLACK KIRBY | John Jennings & Stacey Robinson @Annex in Chicago

Last week, as I waited for Tiger Auto on Ashland Ave. to complete some need car repairs, I headed to the library on Chicago Ave.  As I went in, I glanced across the street at the large, renovated building called Annex. I noticed the art installations hanging in the windows, just as someone was taking them down.

A few hours later, on my way to pick up my car, I looked across the street at the Annex and BAM! What did I see? Some amazing Black Art! Not just any Black Art because there is alot of great Black Art; if you have the Mind to look for it!

However, this Black Art, covering the large windows, belonged to a pair of artists that I know!

BLACK KIRBY | John Jennings & Stacey Robinson @Annex in Chicago

Well, I don’t know them that personally but I am familiar with their art and success through the amazing world of the internet!  Actually, I learned of both artists in 2007 via a site and forum called BlackSuperhero.com and the defunct HeroTalk, respectively. The artists are

Who are they? John Jennings and Stacey Robinson are both are Black Professors and creative visual artists. United, they are Black Kirby and inspired the by legendary comic book artist, Jack Kirby ; they explore Afrofuturism.

“Afrofuturism is a movement that combines African Diaspora themes and the Black Experience infused with spirituality, technology and the futuristic visuals of science fiction. The purpose is to underscore the historical and current social issues of Blacks around the globe and engage the imagination for solutions; placed in a futuristic context across multiple mediums of visual art, literature, music, fashion etc.”

For more information, click their names above and check out the images below for a taste of Black Kirby!
