“Luca, how’s it going?” I ask, reaching out my hand to him. Before answering my question, he takes my hand, shaking it, and glances up and down my body, a quick rake-over that kind of surprises me considering his reputation as a player. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but for him to quickly take my hand and then look away as though my skin is made out of fire really confuses me. And what’s with the flush in his face? I know he’s not blushing. I blink several times to make sure I’m not seeing things. I mean, I know the golden Gucci two piece I’m wearing gives J-Lo a run for her lack of a cover up, but still, this should be just the kind of thing he loves.
“The girl with an ocean inside her eyes,” he finally says, and right away, I feel like we’re back in familiar territory … one where the puppy uses his play on words to attract the kitty cat’s natural ability to be too curious. A flirtatious look crosses over the cautious one I just saw on his face, and he flashes one of those perfect smiles that highlight his dimples. Oh my! He has the hottest dimples and he knows I’m checking him out. I can tell by the way he not so innocently runs that tongue ring across his top lip as he smiles at me with his eyes. Distraction time. With a man like this one, you don’t ever let him know how much he affects you, and I’m failing at this thing.

Meet the Cast
I’m fairly active in a few of my favorite authors’ street teams. One of my favorite games to play with them is “Casting Couch.” The premise is pretty simple, if “insert book title here” was made into a movie, who would you want to play the characters? How much fun would it be to bring the characters in Line Drive to life?
Mattie Duvall
Though we haven’t seen much of Josh Hartnett in recent years, I think he might be the perfect guy to play Mattie Duvall. Mattie is sexy, with a lanky baseball players build. Ashlynn regularly gets lost in those chocolate brown eyes. Plus, its pretty easy for me to imagine him in both a baker’s apron and a Liberty uniform. I think he has the perfect combination of sexy and sweet.
Ashlynn Davis
Emma Stone not only has the perfect coloring to play Ashlynn Davis, but she has the perfect personality. Ashlynn is a bit awkward, definitely goofy and loves to laugh. Anyone who has seen Easy A knows that Ms. Stone does quirky well. She’d make an excellent Ash.
Sophia Franco
Though usually the characters speak to me, sometimes I have an image in mind while writing. With Line Drive, two characters sparked immediate images in my mind. First, was Sophia Franco. Former dancer turned ER nurse, and Ashlynn’s sidekick, Sophia is graceful, beautiful and calming. Maybe I’d been watching too much Nashville, but without a doubt, Clare Bowen was my image inspiration for Soph.
Rainbow Duvall
Rain is one of my absolute favorite characters in the book. Mattie’s quirky little sister is more than a little off the wall. She was a blast to write. I had so much fun playing with her sense of color and crafting her artistic personality. As much as I loved her, Rainbow was definitely the most difficult character to cast. I wasn’t sure who could pull off her challenging personality just right. Emmy Rossum is an ideal choice. She blows me away on Shameless. We’d just need to dye her hair a little darker.
Nick Christensen
Sam Palladio definitely has the boy-next-door charm to bring Nick Christensen to life. Ashlynn’s cousin is so lovable, I just want to give him a hug. Sam gives me the same vibe every week on Nashville. Clearly, I watch too much of this show, but he just seems like an ideal choice. I can’t wait to show you guys more about Nick in Bases Empty.
Doug Reed
Sophia’s longtime boyfriend and fellow Liberty teammate was another character that I struggled to cast. I had no idea Chord Overstreet could pull off anything other than goofy Sam on Glee, until I saw this picture. A little mysterious, a little cocky, this look has Doug written all over it.
Coach Scott Bowden
Matt Bomer definitely has the cajones to pull off Coach Scott’s take-no-prisoners attitude. He’s totally dreamy enough to be the love of Carmen’s life. He’s definitely hunky, and those eyes…sigh…it wasn’t until I saw this picture of Matt with facial hair that I knew. Yep, slap a mustache on the dude and he can definitely pull off Scott’s signature look.
Carmen Bowden
Carmen was the second character that I already had cast while I was writing. For me, there was no one else but America Ferrera. She is definitely Carmen’s doppelganger. I think she also has the perfect combination of fiery personality and mother-hen instincts that make Carmen such a great friend.
Ella Christensen
Oh Ella, how I love thee. Ashlynn and Nick’s grandmother was another of my secret favorites. She brings so much spunk to the table, and she will do anything to protect her children. Jane Fonda can definitely pull off the quirk and spunk that set Ella apart from most grandmothers.
Mrs. O’Donnell
Honestly, is there anyone other than Ms. Betty White to play Ashlynn’s favorite neighbor?
