Lily nodded thanks at the woman who served her coffee. Turning too quickly, she collided with a very firm wall like being. She stumbled backwards and strong arms wrapped around her waist. Lily turned in time to see a quick, large hand catch the cup of coffee before it splattered all over the ground.

Inexplicably, she felt moisture pool between her legs. A whimper parted her lips. She turned breathlessly to look up at the most mesmerizing blue eyes she’d ever seen. Lily couldn’t breathe. Hell, she didn’t want to. She might vomit all over him in her embarrassment.

Her wolf exploded to the surface and she leaned up, tipped over by her rescuer and took in a deep whiff of his scent. It was so right. God, he smelled like the moist woods at night, soap, and salted masculine sweat. The tip of her nose rubbed against the curve of his neck and she opened her mouth. She realized in an instant what she was about to do to the handsome, gorgeous stranger—mark him as hers.

Mine.

Her wolf snarled and tried to become the dominant player in this new unexpected game. She felt something bay back at her. Startled, she realized that the man holding her was wolf. Her fingers gripped his biceps tighter and she opened her mouth to speak.

Slowly, and as if she would break from too rough a movement, the man set her to rights. “Sorry, I thought you wanted to dance there, this is Starbucks right? Not a dance studio?”

Lily found that her lips were flapping like a fish out of water. She sealed her lips shut and swallowed past the lump in her throat. Her heart thumped wildly against her rib cage and she could only stare up at this beautiful man—wolf. “Um, sorry. You must think I’m just—?” Reluctantly, she moved away from him.

His smile was warm and it reached his eyes. His dark hair was trimmed, but the ends at the back of his neck touched the collar of his shirt—rugged and wild.

Like me.

She watched him reach out and brush a strand of hair from her face. It was so tender her heart suddenly started to ache.

He is wolf, run for fucks sakes! Wallace is the only safe wolf.

But she couldn’t. She was rooted to the spot. Super glued to the floor. She wanted to know this man so bad.“Yeah, um, sorry again. I mean, I was thinking about things. Stuff—my friends.”

“Well, maybe you could help me; I’m actually supposed to meet someone, a young woman.”

She swallowed and tilted back a bit. For some reason the thought of him looking for another woman made her jealous—nope it downright pissed her and her wolf off. The barely restrained snarl pressed at her lips that were now tightly pressed together. Once she’d regained some form of humanity, she cleared her throat. “What makes you think I can find her? London is a huge place, and I only deal with a certain type of client in my line of work.”

“I was told to meet her here, her name’s Lily Blackwood.”

 

Bonnie Bliss is the brain child of two authors. Bonnie is husband and wife duo that has come together to weave stories of passion, action, betrayal, and ultimate surrender. They have discovered that mixing genres in their thing. Their tastes go dark, and they love to twisted up sweet stories and make them a bit more tense and sexy. Someone bangs against the mailbox behind us. I feel a knot in my throat as my adrenaline kicks in. My heart starts to race, pounding in my chest. We sprint as fast as we can with our hands clutched together. Dani keeps glancing back to make sure we aren’t being followed. She then looks at me with a sly half-smile. Only the left side of her lip stretches and reveals a little bit of her teeth. I recall that used to turn me on at school every time I saw it as she walked past me … and it still does. My left shoe becomes untied and I clumsily trip. I totally feel stupid and awkward.

I look at Dani and she gives me a concerned look. She then continues to look back and to the sides. We both look at Bushing Park up ahead and nod in agreement.

There might be a place to hide there. “Let’s chill in Bushing for a bit,” I suggest, breathing heavily.

“OK, but you have to listen to me, please! This thing wants to kill you!” Dani blurts out hastily.

“What? Are you serious?” I stop on a dime. “Dani, what the hell? What’s going on?” I smoked a little pot earlier, but my high is wearing off. My cloudy mind becomes alert. I finally notice Dani’s clothes are stained and she is a mess. A light goes off in my head. Dani is in some serious trouble, and so am I. Dammit. What are we going to do?

I should’ve taken that martial arts class that I’ve been meaning to take for some time now. How am I going to protect her? Dammit. I can’t stop cursing at myself. We continue to run side by side, staying low and trying not to make any noise.

Dani notices I’m out of breath and starts to slow down until she comes to a halt under a tree. I’m badly in need of a break from all the running. How the heck does this girl have so much stamina and energy? She’s hardly tired.

“Matt, there’s this thing—it’s coming for you because you are human!” She grabs my arm tighter and ready to take off again.

“What! Because I’m human? What the heck are you then?” I barely deliver those words as I exhale heavily. This is absurd. She must be high or something. I throw Dani’s grip away and point at her with authority. “You need to calm the hell down! I’m calling 9-1-1!” I reach for my cell phone but Dani forcibly holds my hand to not let me pull it out.

She grabs my face with her hands and pulls my face close to hers. “Matt, please trust me! Just hide with me for a bit. I can explain everything!”

A deep rumbling sweeps through the park, like one of those cars with heavy bass. Is someone driving their low-rider into the park? That can’t be right. I try to make sense of my surroundings as I begin to hear clashing metal on metal clanking near the kids’ playground. It sounds like chain mail going across the monkey bars. Shit. Dani might be onto something.

I can hear rapid huffs and puffs of air. The last time I heard deep breathing like that was when we had a giant bull at my family’s ranch. Whatever this thing is that’s out there, I can tell it’s very large.

Because that’s what you’re used to, isn’t it? Daddy always gives you what you want, so you think that everyone else will do the same, no matter what.”

Alyssa was close to tears, and didn’t know what else to say to apologize; nevertheless, he was still yelling at her, and his tone was so harsh she thought she was either going to start screaming or kick him hard in the shins.

What right did he have to say those things to her, when she’d made it clear she was sorry?

“What’s wrong with you?” she shouted, throwing her hands in the air in exasperation. “I said I was sorry, I didn’t do it on purpose. Why do you have to be so thick, now?”

“Just because I’m a country man doesn’t mean I’m stupid!” he said in a loud and harsh tone.

Alyssa stood up, and he followed suit. She was furious and desperately wanted to tell him all she thought of him, without worrying too much about the consequences. She’d had enough now.

“I never said that!” she barked, feeling insulted; not only had he been awful to her all week, now he was also putting words in her mouth, making her look like the bad witch.

“Your riches don’t necessarily make you better than me,” he said, adjusting his hat on his head. His eyes were ice slits, staring at her from underneath the brim of his cowboy hat.

“I never said I’m better than you. Yes, I come from money, so what? It’s not my fault.”

“It is if you look down on people who don’t belong to your happy little world, and treat everyone else as if they should be at your service, satisfying all of your whims, just because you can afford it.”

“I don’t!” she yelled, exasperated from all this nonsense. “I’m not that kind of person at all. And what right do you have to say these things anyway, when you barely even know me?”

 

An avid reader since her childhood years and being an only child, Roberta always enjoyed the company of her fictional friends from the children’s books she loved reading, while she dreamed of writing her own stories one day.

It was when she discovered novels by authors Rosamunde Pilcher and Maeve Binchy in her teenage years that she realized it was time she put down in words the stories she had kept well hidden in her mind until then.

What started as a hobby, soon turned into a real passion and a way of life, until she could no longer keep the stories to herself, and decided to get over her fears and share them with the world.
