I'm in a book club!

Actually, what I meant to say is that one of my books is being READ in a book club. As you can see, The Big Book of Spy Stuff is joining many other fine books in this book circle.
Of course, there is a slight hitch: There's only ONE person in this book club! But since she's incredibly brilliant, it doesn't matter. w00t! (Thanks, Madeleine.)

"Rembrandt's Mother Reading" 1629

From Gatochy.
Rembrandt van Rijn was such a skilled artist, his parents named him "Rembrandt." Now that's some achievement!

September: The Month of Backs

"Back to work, back to school, back to BOOKS!"
This WPA poster from Illinois was printed back in the late 1930s. (The Works Progress Administration was a government agency that provided jobs, income, food, clothing and housing to people
during the Great Depression.)
Good stuff from the Library of Congress!

If you're thinking of writing to an author, try this:

"I just wanted to say that I think your writing is hilarious.
I went to Powell's yesterday with my 11 year old nieces and we sat and
read The Book of Fun for almost an hour - and then we bought it and continued
to read it! . . . Thanks for being so entertaining . . . keep up the good work!
PS - I never have written to an author before, but you are so
funny that I just had to!"
Thank you VERY much. It's messages (and purchases!) like these that keep me going. :)

WELCOME! Look I got you a gift.

Since you're recuperating from a "procedure," I thought you might need a little reading over the weekend.
Don't act so surprised; I know exactly what you've been planning! And since Welcome to Your Facelift is written by the wife of novelist Jay McInerney, you know that this is going to be literary gold!
What, you're mad? Okay, fine. Here, I got you ANOTHER book just in case this happened.

Don't tell me you can't use Ragnar's Guide to Home and Recreational Use of High Explosives. No home is complete without it!
