Hello, Depression!

I have just learned that eleven years ago, How to Good-bye Depression: If you constrict anus 100 times
everyday. Malarkey? Or Effective Way?
[sic]
by Hiroyuki Nishigaki was published.

I don't really know what to say about it beyond that.

"We want fun books!"

The  School Library Journal  has a feature called "What Are

They Reading for Fun?" And the latest edition lists The Big Book of Girl Stuff as a middle school favorite. Yay!

(Oh, and that 1963 photo of Parisian kids watching a puppet show is from LIFE.)

"Keep Calm and Read On"

Although the whole "Keep Calm and..." thing is about played out, these glass bookmarks are charming. (And they're made by this person over at Etsy.)

Wake up and smell the soap!

Yep, just lather up with Shower Shock Caffeinated Soap, and you can skip that morning cup of coffee.[image error]

Let's say you want to sneak knives through airport security.

Let's see, you could go with the old "hollowed-out book" trick. Yep, but what kind of book should you use? Probably not one that looks suspicious . . . so you probably would not use THIS book!

(The TSA confiscated it from a carry-on Monday. Via.)

This is why teenagers should not be allowed to eat doughnuts.

It leads to juvenile delinquency!

The back cover reads:

"…demonstrates how 'junk' food diets, sugar starvation, vitamin deficiencies, lead pollution and food allergies can convert a normal brain into a criminal mind."

Diet, Crime, and Delinquency by Alexander Schauss via the Powell's Tumblr.[image error]

Uh-oh, I might be in trouble.

Over at the Oregonian's website, I have an essay up titled " Children's Authors Are Awful People ."

It's a bit of satiric fun, but at least one commenter wasn't very taken with it:

Did you see that? The essay totally worked![image error]
