FOR MEN ONLY: Letter from Lust to a man

FOR MEN ONLY: Letter from Lust to a man Hello there fool, Yes, that’s right. My lustful, demonized and desperate fool. That’s what you are, no? Not just a fool; what’s most important is that you are MY fool. How did it go today with your so-called “purity journey”? Did you watch that porno again? Wait, don’t tell me! You fell again. Hahahaha! I knew you couldn’t do it. You’re weak. You’re pathetic. You’re a fool. You amuse me, fool. I think I learn from your mistakes more than you do. I kno...

A NEW LEASE ON LIFE

It’s a new year! God be praised if you are in it, alive and well. The newness of the year often brings a new bounce to our steps. It is almost as if life is lived more intentionally in the month of January. We seem to be intentional about our health, our relationships, our careers and together with all that is dear to us. However, something happens a few weeks in. It is as if by the month of February, someone somewhere pressed our “Restore Factory Settings” button. The familiar resumes when t...

Celebrating the Reformation

This year, evangelical Christianity celebrates 500 years since Martin Luther of Germany confronted the Pope and the prevalent Catholic doctrine that had deviated from the truth of the scriptures. His main bone of contention was the fact that indulgences (advance forgiveness for sins) were being sold by the church to the people. Some received letters of pardon from the Pope granting them permission to commit certain sins due to circumstances apparently beyond their control. Vulnerable people w...

Can I marry an unbeliever?

When we address Love, Sex and Relationship issues in conferences and events, many professing believers ask us, “Is it okay for me to date or marry an unbeliever?” The answer may seem obvious to many mature followers of Jesus, but for many growing believers, this question ought to be answered well for them to understand why the answer is “No.” Often there is a justification to counter the answer that goes like this: “What if I am dating them to convert them to be a born-again Christian?” Anoth...

The King Over Politics!

Is man good and occasionally does bad things? Or is man bad and occasionally does good things?

Many people in Kenya consider themselves the first kind and their political enemies the latter. “I am a good person,” they say to themselves. “I just happen to occasionally tweet or write bad Facebook updates. But even my so called bad tweets and updates are not so bad because they are simply promoting justice/peace at the end of the day.” They then say of their political counterparts, “They are bad...

ARE TODAY’S MEN MANLY ENOUGH?

Are today’s men many enough? I wrote this piece a few days ago on my Facebook timeline and it went viral. It was based on some teachings I learned from my friend Boniface Nyoike, a few years ago, and some from my own quiet times with the LORD. I decided to give it more flesh today. Male irresponsibility in our time is something to worry about. Many male humans not only seem to lack but also to shun the possibility of this truth. Proof of it showed in some of the men who responded when this wa...

While shepherds watched their flocks by night

Today in my quiet time, I was reading Luke chapter 2. I got to the part where the shepherds that were tending their flocks by night and an angel of the LORD appeared in God’s tremendous glory and they were afraid. The angel appeased the shepherds and announced that a saviour had been born. It was the birth of Jesus. The angel tells them how to find this newly born saviour. He will be wrapped in clothes and lying in a manger, a feeding trough for farm animals. The Bible then says a large host...

Sex: Why not test drive before you ride?

Hello Ernest. I like your articles a lot. They have helped me grow. Sorry to be direct but I need your help. I am a campus student in Nairobi. I got born again recently and I must say it is the best thing that happened to me. I did not understand the gospel until recently. The reason I need your help is because since I got saved I made a resolve to wait for sex until marriage and I seem to be unpopular for it. I don’t mind it because I know standing for Jesus will never be popular. However, m...

Where are the men?

A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of teaching a group of about 15 teenage boys. I was taking them through a series on biblical manhood. Before we read from the scriptures, I began by narrating an unfortunate incident that occurred to a friend of mine.

One Sunday night, earlier this year, two lady friends of mine walked from a concert in the Central Business District of Nairobi, heading to their bus stage. They by-passed a few bus stages before they got to their own. As they walked past the...
