Aprende bien la Palabra de Dios

“Aférrense a la palabra de vida”. Filipenses 2:16 (NTV)

Dios ha prometido muchos beneficios maravillosos en tu vida si meditas en la Palabra de Dios y luego aplicas sus verdades a tu vida.

¿Cómo meditas?  Si sabes cómo preocuparte, ya sabes cómo meditar. La preocupación es cuando tomas un pensamiento negativo y lo piensas una y otra vez.  Por otro lado, cuando tomas un pasaje de las Escrituras y lo piensas una y otra vez, eso es meditación.

Si todo lo que haces es escuchar la Palabra de Dios cuando vas a la iglesia, aprenderás muy poco de la Palabra de Dios, y fácilmente se puede ir de tu mente.

El Salmo 119:16 dice: “Disfruto tus leyes y siempre recuerdo tus palabras” (PDT). ¿Quieres estar feliz?  Seguir los principios de Dios producirá felicidad, y recuerdas esos principios al memorizarlos, meditar en ellos y luego aplicarlos.

Además, el Salmo 119:35 dice: “Hazme andar por el camino de tus mandatos, porque allí es donde encuentro mi felicidad” (NTV).  Por lo general, buscamos la felicidad en todos los lugares equivocados.  Dios dice que la felicidad se encuentra en el camino de sus mandamientos.

You Have to Want to Hear from God

“You will search again for the LORD your God. And if you search for him with all your heart and soul, you will find him."

Deuteronomy 4:29 (NLT)

You’re not going to hear God unless you really, really want to.

God doesn’t tell his dream for your life if you want to debate it. God doesn’t tell his vision for your life if you want to discuss it. God doesn’t tell you what he put you on Earth to do just so you can say, “Let me think about it.”

No! It’s got to be a necessity. You have to say, “I’ve got to know why I’m here. I’ve got to know what you want me to do with my life. I’ve got to hear your voice. I’ve got to have your vision.”

King David wrote in the book of Psalms, “My God, I want to do what you want” (Psalm 40:8 NCV) and “What I want most of all and at all times is to honor your laws” (Psalm 119:20 CEV).

David was passionate in his declaration that what he wanted most of all was to honor God. Being obedient and following God were not options for him. They were the only thing David wanted to do. He used phrases for seeking God like, “I long for it,” “I crave it,” “I hunger for it,” and “I’m like a deer panting for water.”

When you get that desperate, you’re going to hear from God.

A lot of people talk to God but never hear from God. For them, prayer is a monologue. But you can’t have a relationship through a monologue. What if I had married my wife and talked to her, but she never talked to me? That’s not a relationship. You’ve got to have a conversation.

Just as important as talking to God in prayer is listening to God and letting him talk to you. How does that happen? First, you’ve got to want it more than anything else.

Deuteronomy 4:29 says, “You will search again for the Lord your God. And if you search for him with all your heart and soul, you will find him” (NLT). It’s guaranteed!

Haz Inversiones con Recompensas Eternas

“Yo no pretendo que me den regalos, sino que ustedes reciban todos los beneficios de Dios por ser generosos”. Filipenses 4:17 (PDT)  

Cada vez que eres generoso, inviertes en tu hogar eterno.

Jesús llamó a este principio “almacenar tesoros en el Cielo”. De hecho, ¡utilizó esta frase seis veces en la Biblia! Cada vez que Jesús dice algo seis veces, es mejor que prestes atención. Si no lo haces, te perderás la bendición.

La vida no se trata de acumular cosas aquí en la Tierra. La vida se trata de acumular cosas en el Cielo. La Biblia dice que no almacenes un montón de cosas aquí en la Tierra donde los ladrones pueden robarlas y el óxido y las polillas pueden destruirlas. Guarda tu tesoro en el Cielo.

Eso tiene sentido. ¿Por qué? Porque vas a pasar mucho más tiempo en el Cielo, y vas a necesitar el botín y las recompensas mucho más en el Cielo que en la Tierra. Solo tienes 80 o 100 años en este planeta, y tienes que dejar todo atrás. Pero ¡podrás disfrutar de tu tesoro en el Cielo por la eternidad!

Entonces, ¿cómo acumular un tesoro en el Cielo? ¿Cómo lo envías por adelantado?

La Biblia dice que lo haces invirtiendo en las personas. Sólo hay dos cosas que van a durar para siempre: la Palabra de Dios y las personas. Las personas pasarán la eternidad en el Cielo o en el infierno, y tu inversión en alguien podría marcar la diferencia. Dios quiere que inviertas en las personas, porque esas inversiones tienen consecuencias y recompensas eternas.

Filipenses 4:17 dice: “Yo no pretendo que me den regalos, sino que ustedes reciban todos los beneficios de Dios por ser generosos” (PDT).

Pablo escribió a los Filipenses para expresar su agradecimiento por su apoyo, pero dijo que lo que más le importaba, lo que más le alegraba, era saber que su sacrificio y generosidad estaba guardando un tesoro en el Cielo. Invirtieron en él, pero también en su hogar eterno.

Serás recompensado por todo lo que has dado con generosidad. ¿Estás dando tu tiempo? Serás recompensado en el Cielo. ¿Estás dando tu energía? Serás recompensado en el Cielo. ¿Estás dando tu dinero? Serás recompensado en el Cielo.

Obedience Leads to Peace

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus."

Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)

If you feel overwhelmed or confused about a decision that you’re trying to make, you’re probably caught up in yourself and not listening for God’s voice. The Bible says, “God is not a God of disorder but of peace” (1 Corinthians 14:33 NIV). He is not the author of confusion. So if you’re feeling confused, guess what? It’s not God’s voice speaking in your life.

If you’re a parent, do you want your kids to feel pressured or confused when you ask them to do something? No. You want them to understand what to do and then respond in obedience. God the Father wants the same thing for and from you.

The only time pressure could be legitimate is if God has told you to do something and you keep saying “no.” Then the pressure will build. But there’s always peace when you say “yes” to what God’s asking you to do.

Satan wants to drive you compulsively, but God wants to draw you compassionately. Satan wants to take advantage of your compulsions and use them to drive your life. But God is your Good Shepherd. He wants to draw you toward himself and peace.

The late Peter Lord, a pastor I deeply respected, used to say, “Ninety percent of what God wants to say to you is encouragement.” If negative messages are all you ever hear from God, something’s wrong. The wires have been crossed.

If you feel like God has told you to do something but you’re increasingly anxious because of it, then something’s not right.

The Bible tells you, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7 NLT).

A Medida que Crece tu Generosidad, También lo Hace tu Fe

“No se preocupen por nada; en cambio, oren por todo. Díganle a Dios lo que necesitan y denle gracias por todo lo que él ha hecho”. Filipenses 4:6 (NTV)

Cada vez que muestras generosidad, fortaleces tu fe.

¿Por qué? Porque cuando tomas algo y en lugar de usarlo en ti mismo, lo usas para ayudar a otros, entonces vas a tener que depender de Dios para que te ayude.

Cuando decides ayudar a un amigo que tiene dificultades para pagar sus cuentas, vas a tener que aprender a confiar en que Dios te proveerá.

Si sólo tienes una cierta cantidad de tiempo para hacer las cosas, pero dejas de hacerlo y en su lugar utilizas el tiempo para ayudar a tu vecino, tienes que confiar en que Dios ampliará el tiempo y lo hará funcionar para que tú también puedas hacer tus cosas.

Tu fe se fortalece cuando dependes de Dios en esas situaciones y confías en Él. Eliges orar, en lugar de preocuparte y esperar que Dios se ocupe de tus necesidades.

Filipenses 4:6 dice: “No se preocupen por nada; en cambio, oren por todo. Díganle a Dios lo que necesitan y denle gracias por todo lo que él ha hecho” (NTV).

A lo largo de los años en Saddleback, hemos tenido seis ocasiones diferentes en las que hemos pedido a la gente que dé por encima de sus ofrendas normales. En cada una de esas ocasiones, Dios ha ampliado mi propia fe. De hecho, durante una de las campañas, Dios nos llevó a Kay y a mí a dar nuestro salario durante un período de tres años. ¿Crees que eso fue una prueba de fe? ¿Cómo íbamos a vivir si dábamos todo mi salario a esta ofrenda (esto fue antes de que escribiera algún libro)? Significaba que, durante esos tres años, teníamos que confiar en que Dios proveería de algún modo los ingresos.

Esa fue una prueba de mi fe. Y cada vez que Dios me ha puesto a prueba, mi fe se ha hecho más y más fuerte a medida que Dios proveía fielmente. Dios hará lo mismo por ti cuando des generosamente.

How to Recognize God’s Voice

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away."

Luke 21:33 (NIV)

Sometimes it’s hard to recognize God’s voice. When an idea comes into your mind, you wonder if it’s an instruction from God, a deception from Satan, or just something you want to do. But it’s important to know how to discern God’s voice, because it can have eternal consequences.

A lot of evil gets blamed on God when people say, “God told me to do it!” The Bible says in 1 John 4:1, “Don’t always believe everything you hear just because someone says it is a message from God: test it first to see if it really is” (TLB).

God will never contradict his Word. So you can ask yourself: “Does that idea in my mind right now agree with the Bible?”

God doesn’t say one thing and then change his mind and say something else. If he said it, it’s true—and it will always be true.

God is consistent. He isn’t moody. He doesn’t change his mind. He will never tell you to violate a principle that he’s already given in his Word, the Bible.

So, when you’re wondering whether you’re hearing God’s voice, the first question you need to ask is, “Does this thought line up with what God has already said?” If what you’re thinking contradicts something that God has already said in the Bible, then you know it’s wrong.

Jesus said in Luke 21:33, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away” (NIV). God’s Word is eternal, because truth never changes. If something was true 5,000 years ago, it was true 1,000 years ago, it is true today, and it will be true 5,000 years from today.

People might say, “God said it, I believe it, that settles it.” No! God said it, and that settles it—whether you believe it or not!

God won’t contradict himself. So, when you’re trying to recognize his voice, the best starting place is to ask yourself, “Is this idea in harmony with the Word of God?”

La Felicidad Requiere el “Dejar Ir”

“Me concentro únicamente en esto: olvido el pasado y fijo la mirada en lo que tengo por delante, y así avanzo hasta llegar al final de la carrera para recibir el premio celestial al cual Dios nos llama por medio de Cristo Jesús”. Filipenses 3:13-14 (NTV)

La felicidad requiere el “dejar ir” y aprender a olvidar. La preocupación no cambiará el pasado, así que olvida lo que no se puede cambiar y concéntrate en el futuro.

Filipenses 3:13-14 dice: “Me concentro únicamente en esto: olvido el pasado y fijo la mirada en lo que tengo por delante, y así avanzo hasta llegar al final de la carrera para recibir el premio celestial al cual Dios nos llama por medio de Cristo Jesús” (NTV).

Sólo tienes una cantidad limitada de energía. Por eso te cansas. Por eso te fatigas. Por eso te agotas.

Como sólo tienes una cantidad limitada de energía, te recomiendo que no desperdicies nada de ella en el pasado. Cada día, elige concentrar tu energía en lo que tienes por delante y en lo que te espera.

Este hábito es tan importante para tu felicidad que hay tres trampas de las que tienes que ser consciente.

La trampa del arrepentimiento. Tienes que dejar de lamentarte. ¿Hay cosas que desearías haber hecho de forma diferente en la vida? Por supuesto. Pero no puedes insistir en ellas porque no puedes cambiarlas. No malgastes ninguna emoción en arrepentimientos.

La trampa del resentimiento. Aferrarse al resentimiento no hace daño a nadie más sino a ti. Déjalo ir. Por tu propio bien, debes perdonar. ¿Se lo merecen? No. ¿Pero tú mereces el perdón de Dios? No. Los que reciben la gracia ofrecen la gracia.

La trampa de la tradición. Todo cambia constantemente, y no puedes detenerlo. Tienes que decidir si resistir y resentir esos cambios o ser feliz. La felicidad es una elección.

La forma en que manejas los cambios en la vida revela tu madurez espiritual. Cuando estás guiado por la eternidad y anclado en ella, el cambio puede tener lugar a tu alrededor y puedes elegir ser feliz.

Before God Speaks, Decide to Say “Yes”

“The seeds that fell in good soil stand for those who hear the message and retain it in a good and obedient heart, and they persist until they bear fruit."

Luke 8:15 (GNT)

God speaks to people who decide they’re going to do what he tells them to do, even before he tells them.

This kind of person says things like, “God, if you want me to move, I’ll move. If you want me to get married, I’ll get married. If you want me to leave this job, I’ll leave this job. Before you even tell me, my answer is ‘yes.’ Whatever you want me to do, I will do it.”

Luke 8:15 says, “The seeds that fell in good soil stand for those who hear the message and retain it in a good and obedient heart, and they persist until they bear fruit” (GNT).

I used to study this parable of Jesus and think it was talking about four kinds of people: those who are resistant, those who are shallow, those who are busy, and those who are good.

But this parable actually represents four attitudes. You can have all four attitudes in the same day! One moment you think, “God, I don’t want to hear you, because I know what you’re going to say.” And the next moment you say, “Lord, tell me quickly.” Then you hear it and think it’s good, but you don’t do anything about it. Maybe the fruit starts to appear in your life, but then you get busy with your job or school or your kids, and the weeds grow up. Then other times you say, “God, do whatever you want. I’m totally open to you.”

God wants you to have an attitude of obedience so that you can bear fruit—the biblical term for being successful. God wants you to be fruitful in your business, your family, your friendships, your relationship with him, your relationships with others, and your health.

What’s the best and quickest way to bear fruit? By taking what God has told you and sharing it to someone else.

Another version of Luke 8:15 says, “They listen to God’s words and cling to them and steadily spread them to others who also soon believe” (TLB).

When God tells you something, accept it with an obedient heart and then share it with someone else!

No te Preocupes por las Cosas Pequeñas

“Hagan todo sin quejarse y sin discutir, para que nadie pueda criticarlos”. Filipenses 2:14-15 (NTV)

¿Alguna vez te preocupas y peleas por las cosas pequeñas? Por supuesto. Todos lo hacemos. Es un hábito difícil de romper porque somos negativos por naturaleza. Desde Adán y Eva, hemos andado excusándonos y acusando. Excusamos nuestros propios errores y luego acusamos a los demás por sus errores, y más. Nos escondemos y echamos culpas. Culpamos a los demás de los problemas de nuestra vida.

Filipenses 2:14-15 dice esto: “Hagan todo sin quejarse y sin discutir, para que nadie pueda criticarlos” (NTV). Este puede ser uno de los versículos más difíciles de la Biblia. ¿Estás de acuerdo?

Hay cuatro tipos de queja con los que me encuentro todo el tiempo.

En primer lugar, están los que se quejan. Uno puede levantarse por la mañana y decir: “¡Buenos días, Señor!”, pero los que se quejan eligen decir: “¡Bueno Señor, otra vez es de día!”.

En segundo lugar, están los mártires. Su expresión favorita es: “¡Nadie me aprecia!”. Son profesionales de las fiestas de compasión. Hacen rabieta y se quejan cuando no se salen con la suya.

En tercer lugar, están los cínicos. Su actitud es: “¿Para qué molestarme? No va a cambiar nada”. Lo echan a perder todo.

En cuarto lugar, están los perfeccionistas. Nada es suficientemente bueno para ellos. Su frase favorita es: “¿Es eso lo mejor que puedes hacer?”.

Para mí, el versículo más aterrador de la Biblia es Mateo 12:36: “todos tendrán que dar cuenta de toda palabra ociosa que hayan pronunciado” (NVI).

Eso debería producirte escalofríos. ¿Cuántas veces te has quejado o has discutido por algo cuando no deberías haberte preocupado por las cosas pequeñas? No te preocupes por las cosas pequeñas.

En cambio, “den gracias a Dios en toda situación, porque esta es su voluntad para ustedes en Cristo Jesús” 1 Tesalonicenses 5:18 (NVI).

Three Things That Keep You from Hearing God

“The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature."

Luke 8:14 (NIV)

You can’t hear God if your mind is crowded with other thoughts or concerns—particularly worries, plans, and activities. If you’re always listening to the radio or watching tv, it’s difficult to hear God when he calls. To hear God, you have to eliminate distractions.

Jesus says in Luke 8:7, “Some other seeds fell where thornbushes grew up and choked the plants” (CEV).

In this story Jesus tells, seeds are planted and begin to grow—but the seeds are in weed-infested soil. So, as the plant grows, the weeds grow up around it. The weeds choke out the life of the plant, and it never bears fruit.

Here’s what Jesus says is the meaning of Luke 8:7: “The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature” (Luke 8:14 NIV).

Three things can choke spiritual growth in your life and keep you from hearing God:

Worry. Worries are weeds. When you’re preoccupied with the problems and pressures of daily living, it’s harder to hear God.

Riches. Are you so busy making a living that you don’t make a life? Working to pay bills for things you don’t need, to get out of unnecessary debt, or to make more money than you actually need can stunt your spiritual growth.

Pleasure. There’s nothing wrong with pleasure, but be careful that you don’t become so busy pursuing fun that you miss God and his plans for your life.

Do you know what’s always true of weeds? You don’t have to cultivate them. They grow automatically. In fact, weeds are a sign of neglect. If you see weeds in your yard or garden, it means you’re not tending it.

It’s the same with your spiritual life. The weeds in your spiritual life show that you’re neglecting time with God.

Spend time each day tending to your spiritual garden. Pluck out the weeds as soon as they appear so they don’t take over the good work God wants to do in you.
