Para Obtener una Visión de la Palabra de Dios, Aprende a Meditar en Ella

“Que no se aparte nunca de tu boca este libro de la ley. Medita en él día y noche y obedécelo al pie de la letra. Solamente así tendrás éxito”. Josué 1:8 (NBV)

Hay tantas cosas que puedes hacer para desbloquear los dones que ofrece la Biblia. Puedes leer las Escrituras, estudiarlas y memorizarlas. Pero también debes meditar en ella.

2 Timoteo 2:7 dice: “Reflexiona en lo que te digo, y el Señor te dará una mayor comprensión de todo esto” (NVI).

Cuando reflexionas sobre la Biblia, cuando meditas en ella, Dios te da más información sobre su Palabra.

¿Qué significa meditar? Simplemente significa pensar seriamente en algo. Significa que comprometes tu mente.

¿Te preguntas cómo meditar? Si sabes cómo preocuparte, sabes cómo meditar. La preocupación es simplemente meditación negativa. Cuando te preocupas, tomas un pensamiento negativo y lo repites una y otra vez en tu mente. Y cuanto más te preocupes, más grande será tu pensamiento.

En la meditación, haces lo mismo con las Escrituras: repasas una y otra vez un pasaje de la Biblia en tu mente. Pero a diferencia de la preocupación, meditar en las Escrituras produce resultados positivos.

Una de las formas en que puedes meditar en las Escrituras es haciendo lo que yo llamo “pronunciarlo“. Lee un versículo de la Biblia en voz alta, una y otra vez. Cada vez que lo digas, enfatizas en una palabra diferente.

Tomemos como ejemplo a Filipenses 4:13, : “Todo lo puedo en Cristo que me fortalece” (NVI). La primera vez que digas el versículo, enfatiza en “todo”. La siguiente vez enfatiza en “puedo”. Y así sucesivamente, hasta que enfatices todas las palabras del versículo.

Cada vez que digas el versículo, su significado se matizará de una manera diferente.

Otra herramienta para meditar es un puente de reflexión. Debajo de cada historia en la Biblia hay un principio eterno, y el puente de reflexión te ayuda a encontrarlo. Primero, lees la historia y te preguntas qué significaba cuando sucedió por primera vez. Luego te preguntas qué principio eterno está enseñando. Luego lo personalizas preguntándote qué significa para ti hoy.

La Biblia promete tremendas bendiciones si pasas tiempo meditando en ella: “Que no se aparte nunca de tu boca este libro de la ley. Medita en él día y noche y obedécelo al pie de la letra. Solamente así tendrás éxito” (Josué 1:8 NBV).

Tómate el tiempo ahora para desarrollar el hábito de meditar en la Palabra de Dios, y obtendrás los beneficios por el resto de tu vida.

What Does It Mean to Throw Away Your Life?

“Give yourselves to God . . . and surrender your whole being to him to be used for righteous purposes."

Romans 6:13 (GNT)

God wants you to learn to be a giver, not a taker. He wants you to surrender to Jesus by laying down every area of your life.

Jesus said, “If you insist on saving your life, you will lose it. Only those who throw away their lives for my sake and for the sake of the Good News will ever know what it means to really live” (Mark 8:35 TLB).

Notice the phrase “only those who throw away their lives.” What does it mean to throw away your life? It means you submit yourself to God for his purposes.

Romans 6:13 says, “Give yourselves to God . . . and surrender your whole being to him to be used for righteous purposes” (GNT). When you give yourself to God and let him use you, life becomes an adventure. That’s when you really start to live!

When you say, “Okay God, I’m not going to live for me anymore. Instead, I’m going to live for you and for other people. I’m going to learn to lay down my life and my plans,” God will provide for all of your needs. The Bible says, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need” (Matthew 6:33 NLT).

How do you make the Kingdom of God your primary concern? You care about the things God cares about. God doesn’t care about money and fame. He doesn’t care about a lot of the things we care about. He cares most about people.

Surrender your life to God. Build your life around the things that are most important to him. He’ll make sure you have all you need, and you’ll find true purpose in life.

Cómo y Por Qué Deberías Memorizar las Escrituras

“Que la palabra de Cristo habite en abundancia en ustedes, con toda sabiduría”. Colosenses 3:16 (NBLA)

 La Biblia es un regalo que te ofrece mucho. Pero como una caja llena de tesoros, no sirve de nada a menos que tenga las llaves para desbloquearla.

Una de las llaves para desbloquear la Biblia es la memorización de las Escrituras. Nada hará más por tu vida cristiana que desarrollar el hábito de memorizar versículos de la Biblia.

Es un hábito que te ayudará a superar la tentación. El Salmo 119:11 dice: “He guardado tu palabra en mi corazón, para no pecar contra ti” (NTV). Memorizar la Biblia te ayuda a resistir la tentación.

Juan 15:7 dice que tener la Palabra de Dios en tu corazón también lleva a oraciones contestadas. Dice: “Si ustedes permanecen en mí y mis palabras permanecen en ustedes, pueden pedir lo que quieran, ¡y les será concedido!” (NTV).

Memorizar las Escrituras también te ayuda a tener victoria sobre las preocupaciones, te mantiene animado y desarrolla tu vida de oración. Tener la Palabra de Dios memorizada hace que sea más fácil aconsejar y compartir las Buenas Nuevas de Jesús con otras personas porque siempre tienes los versículos de la Biblia listos.

He escuchado todas las excusas para no memorizar las Escrituras. Las personas dicen: “No puedo memorizar”, “tengo mala memoria”.

La verdad es que recuerdas lo que es importante para ti y las cosas que usas. Entonces las preguntas son: ¿Valoras la Palabra de Dios lo suficiente como para memorizar algunos versículos? ¿Lees la Palabra de Dios con tanta frecuencia que comienzas a recordarla?

Piense en todas las veces durante el día que tomas tu teléfono inteligente, tal vez mientras esperas en alguna fila, en el autobús, en tu hora de almuerzo o sentado en tu sofá por la noche. ¿Qué pasa si pasas esos momentos memorizando las Escrituras? Probablemente memorizarías varios libros de la Biblia de esa manera.

Si eres nuevo memorizando las Escrituras, comienza con solo un versículo a la semana. Escribe el versículo en una hoja de papel o en una nota en tu teléfono. Sácalo y míralo varias veces al día. Y cuando estés listo para pasar al siguiente versículo, sigue revisando los que ya has memorizado.

Es importante conseguir una pareja, tal vez un amigo, compañero de trabajo, cónyuge o hijo. Decir sus versículos el uno al otro y animarse mutuamente a mantener el hábito.

Mientras memorizas la Biblia, te encontrarás cambiando para mejor: “Que la palabra de Cristo habite en abundancia en ustedes, con toda sabiduría” Colosenses 3:16 (NBLA).

Surrender Your Future to God

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."

Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV)

Surrender means leaving the future to God. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths” (ESV).

What area of your life have you not surrendered to God? Maybe you’ve surrendered the kitchen and the living room. But what about the bedroom of your life? What about the closet and the garage of your life?

Some of you may not have surrendered your sex life to God. You say, “I know God says sex is only for marriage, but I’m going to do it my way.” That’s why you’re under stress.

Some of you may not have surrendered your finances to God. You think, “I know God says that I should give the first 10 percent back to him, but I can’t afford to tithe.” And that’s why you’re under stress.

Some of you may not have surrendered your relationships to God. You say, “I know I should forgive that person who hurt me, but I’m not going to forgive them.” That’s why you’re under stress.

Some of you may not have surrendered a secret sin to God. Or maybe it’s a hurt, habit, or hang-up you haven’t surrendered to God.

But the most important thing is, have you surrendered your life to Jesus Christ?

Surrender today—and leave the future to God.

Surrender is saying to God, “The war is off. I’m not going to fight you anymore. I want serenity, not stress.”

Aren’t you tired of being at war with God? It’s time to stop fighting. Surrendering to God is the ultimate expression of faith.

Conviértete en un Estudiante de la Biblia

“Dios bendice a quienes no siguen malos consejos…  Dios bendice a quienes aman su palabra y alegres la estudian día y noche”. Salmos 1:1-2 (TLA)

¿Qué tienen en común un buen detective y un estudiante de la Biblia? Ambos aprenden a hacer buenas preguntas y sacar conclusiones sólidas.

Cuando los detectives llegan a una escena del crimen, primero observan. Miran a su alrededor y ven los detalles que la mayoría de nosotros pasaría por alto. Luego hacen preguntas. Por último, juntan todos los hechos para sacar conclusiones.

Cuando eres un estudiante de la Biblia, te acercas a la Escritura como un detective.

Llegas a un texto y lo miras de cerca. Buscas detalles que una lectura rápida podría pasar por alto. Haces preguntas al respecto. Lo comparas con otros versículos bíblicos. Entonces lo juntas todo para averiguar: “¿Qué significa esto para mí hoy?”

Salmo 1:1-2 dice: “Dios bendice a quienes no siguen malos consejos… Dios bendice a quienes aman su palabra y alegres la estudian día y noche” (TLA).

Para realmente recibir la Palabra de Dios en tu vida, no basta con leerla. Tienes que estudiarla, como lo haría un buen detective.

La diferencia entre simplemente leer y estudiar es simple. Cuando lees, simplemente pones tus ojos en las palabras. Cuando estudias, te involucras con las palabras. Podrías tomar notas en una libreta. Podrías utilizar una buena aplicación de la Biblia para comparar versículos. Podrías tener una mente curiosa y hacer preguntas referentes al texto.

Considera las preguntas de investigación que muchos de nosotros aprendimos en la escuela:  quién, qué, cuándo, dónde, por qué y cómo. Esas preguntas son un buen punto de partida para comenzar a hacerse sobre la Biblia.

Ya sea que hayas estudiado la Biblia durante años o que estés empezando, una de las mejores maneras de hacerlo es con un grupo pequeño. Juntos analizarán, harán preguntas, escucharán y compartirán con otras personas. Y obtendrás información que te perderías por tu cuenta.

Si no eres parte de una iglesia local, busca una que ofrezca estudios bíblicos en grupos pequeños. Si tu iglesia no ofrece grupos pequeños, reúne a un grupo de amigos para analizar el sermón de cada domingo o para estudiar juntos un libro de la Biblia.

A medida que te conviertas en un estudiante de la Biblia, llegarás a saber lo que dice la Biblia y lo que significa. Y entonces podrás aplicarla en tu vida.

Why Doesn’t God Tell You Why?

“Surrender yourself to the LORD, and wait patiently for him."

Psalm 37:7 (GW)

One reason people struggle with contentment is because we’re always looking for explanations for why things happen in our lives. But God doesn’t tell us why most things happen, and that can frustrate us.

Sometimes God doesn’t tell you why because he’s testing you. He wants to see if you will let go of control and learn to be content, whether or not he explains why something happens in your life.

God doesn’t owe you an explanation for anything. You’re not going to know why most things happen until you get to heaven.

When I was a little kid, the only time our school classroom was quiet was during a test. The teacher would say, “No talking! Take your pencils and fill out your tests.” Even the teacher would be silent.

When God is silent in your life—when you don’t hear him, and he feels like he’s a million miles away—that is a test!

The teacher is always silent when the students take a test—but the teacher is still present with the students. When God is silent in your life, your faith is being tested—but God is still with you.

In that test, will you let go of control, or will you grab on more tightly? Will you learn to be content?

The Bible says, “Surrender yourself to the Lord, and wait patiently for him” (Psalm 37:7 GW).

When you go through pain next week or next month or this year, you don’t really need God’s explanation. You need God’s presence. Let go of control and surrender yourself to him.

Para Beneficiarte de la Biblia, Debes Leerla

“Dichoso el que lee [la Biblia]”  Apocalipsis 1:3 (NVI)

¿Alguna vez sientes que no entiendes la Biblia? Te preguntas, ¿por qué no está haciendo una gran diferencia en mi vida? Si es así, permíteme hacerte esta pregunta: ¿Cuánto tiempo dedicas a leer la Biblia?

Durante gran parte de la historia del cristianismo, sólo los sacerdotes tenían Biblias. Como resultado, eran los únicos que interpretaban la Escritura. Todos los demás tenían que aceptar lo que decían.

Luego, alrededor de 1440, Johannes-Gutenberg inventó la imprenta móvil. Por primera vez, la gente común tuvo acceso regular a las Biblias. “Lo que el sacerdote me está diciendo y lo que leo en la Biblia, ¡no coincide!”, dijeron.

Poner la Biblia en manos de la gente común condujo a un tipo de revolución, una gran agitación de la iglesia que ahora conocemos como la Reforma Protestante.

Gracias a la imprenta y a la reforma, tú y yo podemos leer la Biblia todos los días, pero ¿lo haces?

Conozco a algunos cristianos que son más fieles a la página de deportes que a la Palabra de Dios. La gente puede pasar tres horas al día en las redes sociales o viendo la televisión, mientras pasa unos minutos leyendo la Biblia. Esperan que esa fórmula los transforme en gigantes espirituales, pero simplemente no funciona de esa manera.

Para entender y aplicar la Biblia, tienes que leerla. Y leer la Biblia es más fácil de lo que crees. Si la lees durante 15 minutos todos los días, la leerás toda una vez al año. Si reemplazas un programa de televisión de 30 minutos al día con la lectura de la Biblia, leerás la Biblia dos veces al año.

Piensa en lo que te pasas el tiempo leyendo todos los días: un blog favorito, el periódico de la mañana o las redes sociales. ¿Crees todo lo que lees en esos lugares? ¿Y qué con respecto a lo que lees en la Biblia? Mucha gente dice: “Creo que la Biblia de principio a fin”. Y me gustaría responderles, “¿La han leído de principio a fin?”

Si no tienes un hábito regular de lectura de la Biblia, comienza hoy mismo. Toma una de esas fuentes que no es completamente confiable y reemplázala con la Palabra de Dios. Recuerda lo que dice el libro de Apocalipsis: “Dichoso el que lee [la Biblia]” Apocalipsis 1:3 (NVI).

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿En cuál de las redes sociales te la pasas todos los días? ¿Cuál de esas redes sociales es completamente confiable?Haz una lista de formas específicas en las que influyen las redes sociales que lees o ves todos los días. Haz otra lista de las maneras en que la lectura de la Biblia a diario podría influir.Piensa en esa lista de redes sociales donde te la pasas a diario. En la próxima semana, ¿cuál de ellas podrías reemplazarla por la lectura de la Biblia? Let Go, and Know God Is in Control

“Let go of your concerns! Then you will know that I am God. I rule the nations. I rule the earth."

Psalm 46:10 (GW)

Every day, decide who’s going to be in control of your life—you or God.

That choice is a battle because there are things in life you want to control. You want to make your own rules. But relief from stress always starts with letting God be God. It always starts with saying, “God, I’m giving up control, because only you can control the things that are out of control in my life.”

The number one reason you’re under stress is because you’re trying to control things that only God can control. You can’t control your spouse, your kids, your job, your future, or your past. When you try to play God, it puts you in opposition to God. Not only are you going to lose that conflict, but you’re also going to be tired—and stressed.

Psalm 46:10 says, “Let go of your concerns! Then you will know that I am God. I rule the nations. I rule the earth” (GW).

I don’t know what you’ll face this week. You don’t know either. But I can already tell you what God wants you to do: Let go of control and trust that he is in control.

Let go and know! This is the first step to serenity.

When people face out-of-control situations and feel stressed, we often go to one of two extremes. For some of you, the more out-of-control your life gets, the harder you try to control it. Others do the exact opposite: You just give up and have a pity party.

Both of those reactions to stress are foolish. They don’t work. Instead of being a victim or becoming hyper-controlling, you need to pray a prayer of surrender.

Millions of people pray the Serenity Prayer, which is based on the Lord’s Prayer, but most have never read the last eight lines to the prayer: “Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardship as a pathway to peace; taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that You will make all things right if I surrender to Your will; so that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with You forever in the next. Amen.”

That’s where the power is! Power comes when you surrender to God anything you’ve been trying to control. And that will lead you to living a life of serenity.

Como Recibir la Palabra de Dios en tu Corazón

“Así que debemos prestar mucha atención a las verdades que hemos oído, no sea que nos desviemos de ellas”. Hebreos 2:1 (NTV)

La Biblia es uno de los grandes regalos de Dios para nosotros. Pero una Biblia cerrada es inútil. Para cosechar los beneficios de la Biblia, debes obtener sus verdades en tu vida.

Una de las formas de hacer esto es recibiendo la Palabra de Dios con un corazón atento y abierto. Jesús dice, “Las semillas sobre la tierra rocosa representan a los que oyen el mensaje y lo reciben con alegría; pero como no tienen raíces profundas, creen por un tiempo y luego se apartan cuando enfrentan la tentación… Así que presten atención a cómo oyen” Lucas 8:13, 18 (NTV).

En esta Escritura, la palabra “recibe” proviene del griego dechomai, que literalmente significa “darle la bienvenida”. Tú puedes darle la bienvenida a la Palabra de Dios como un anfitrión generoso le daría la bienvenida a un extraño.

Pero ese versículo incluye una advertencia también. Debes tener cuidado sobre cómo escuchas la Palabra de Dios. Recíbela con una actitud abierta y enseñable.

Es más que solo escucharla. Todos nosotros hemos oído a alguien sin realmente haberle escuchado. Es posible que mientras estás leyendo este devocional hoy, estés leyendo las palabras, pero no escuchando el mensaje; mientras tus ojos están leyendo, tu mente puede que esté a un millón de millas de distancia.

La Escritura dice que debemos “recibir” la Palabra de Dios. Piensa en una conexión Wi-Fi. Cuando tienes una conexión fuerte, puedes bajar cosas rápidamente y sin problemas; pero cuando no es así, tu dispositivo quizás nunca muestre lo que necesitas.

La Palabra de Dios es de la misma manera. A veces no tenemos una conexión fuerte. Eso nos mantiene alejados de realmente recibir la Palabra de Dios.

A veces tenemos una conexión pobre con la Biblia, porque no estamos prestando atención. En otras ocasiones puede ser debido a que hay algo obstaculizando esa conexión —puede ser que tu relación con Dios o con otra persona está en el lugar incorrecto. Ordena tus relaciones. Luego encontrarás que tienes una conexión más fuerte con la Palabra de Dios, y Dios podrá utilizarla para hablarte.

Hebreos 2:1 dice, “Así que debemos prestar mucha atención a las verdades que hemos oído, no sea que nos desviemos de ellas” (NTV).

¿Cómo puedes aferrarte a la Palabra de Dios en vez de dejarte arrastrar? Una forma es tomando notas. Escoge una parte de este devocional que Dios utilizó para hablarte y escríbelo en una nota en tu teléfono o en un diario.

¿Cómo sabrás que estás recibiendo la Palabra de Dios con un corazón abierto y atento? Comenzarás a ver cambios en tu vida. Hechos 2:41 dice, “Los que creyeron lo que Pedro dijo fueron bautizados y sumados a la iglesia en ese mismo día, como tres mil en total” (NTV).

Reflexiona sobre esto

Haz una lista (en papel, tu teléfono, o solo en tu mente) de todas las cosas que puedes hacer para darle la bienvenida a un extraño. ¿Cuáles son algunas formas similares en las que puedes prepararte para darle la bienvenida a la verdad de la Escritura en tu vida?¿Hay relaciones en tu vida que están fuera de orden y que puedan estar interfiriendo con tu conexión con la Palabra de Dios? ¿Qué puedes hacer hoy para comenzar a corregir una de esas relaciones?Puedes saber que estás recibiendo la Palabra de Dios con un corazón abierto y atento cuando ella comienza a cambiarte. ¿Has visto las Escrituras cambiar tu vida?Síguenos en nuestra cuenta de Instagram: @esperanzadiariadelpastorrick

Nothing Is Too Big for God

“Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think."

Ephesians 3:20 (NLT)

God is a competent Father. He can handle any problem you give him. Nothing is beyond his ability or his resources. No request is too big or too small.

A woman once asked me, “Rick, is it really okay for me to talk to God about the small things in my life? Shouldn’t I just talk to him about the big problems?” I looked at her and said, “Can you imagine God considering any problem too big? It’s all small to him. There is nothing too big or too small for God.”

The Bible says, “Nothing is impossible for God!” (Luke 1:37 CEV) After reading that, I cut the word “impossible” out of my dictionary because it’s not in God’s vocabulary. Nothing is impossible with God.

It’s amazing to me what my kids thought I was capable of fixing when they were young. They expected me to know it all, fix anything, and be able to afford everything. As they grew up, they learned that their father had limited knowledge, limited energy, limited resources, limited skills—limited everything.

But your heavenly Father really can do anything. Ephesians 3:20 says, “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think” (NLT).

I’m a big dreamer. I’ve had a lot of big dreams in my life, and God has fulfilled many of them. But God says, “I don’t care how much you dream, Rick; I can still top it. I can dream bigger than you can dream.”

Yesterday’s impossibilities are today’s miracles. God specializes in the impossible! He is a competent Father.
