Tres Barreras que te Impiden Escuchar la Voz de Dios

“Así que quiten de su vida todo lo malo y lo sucio, y acepten con humildad la palabra que Dios les ha sembrado en el corazón, porque tiene el poder para salvar su alma”. Santiago 1:21 (NTV)

¿Qué tienen en común la voz de Dios y los teléfonos celulares? Para ambos, ¡debes estar en la posición correcta para escucharlos claramente!

La calidad de la recepción con tu teléfono celular puede variar ampliamente. En un edificio grande y sólido, su cobertura puede ser irregular. En un área silvestre, es probable que no tengas ningún servicio celular. Tienes que estar en la posición correcta para tener una señal clara y confiable.

Lo mismo es cierto con tu relación con Dios. Si quieres escuchar la voz de Dios clara y consistentemente, debes estar posicionado correctamente.

¿Cómo se ve estar en la posición incorrecta para escuchar a Dios? Cuando estás en la posición equivocada, tu mente está cerrada: quieres hacer lo que quieres, no lo que Dios quiere que hagas. En la posición incorrecta, tu corazón se endurece, no estás dispuesto a escuchar.

¿Qué mantiene tu corazón duro y tu mente cerrada a Dios? Aquí hay tres barreras que te mantienen cerrado al mensaje de Dios:

Orgullo. Si crees que no necesitas a Dios en tu vida y quieres manejar las cosas tú mismo, probablemente no estés escuchando a Dios hablar. El orgullo te impide estar abierto a la posibilidad de que Dios quiera decirte algo. Miedo. Muchas personas no pueden escuchar a Dios porque tienen miedo de escuchar a Dios hablar. Podrías pensar que escuchar la voz de Dios o sentir su dirección te convierte en una especie de fanático religioso. O tal vez tengas miedo de los cambios que necesitarías hacer en tu vida si escucharas la guía de Dios. Amargura. Cuando te aferras al dolor, al resentimiento o al rencor, no puedes escuchar a Dios porque tu corazón está endurecido. Un corazón duro se enfría y te pone a la defensiva, incluso ante el amor de Dios.

Santiago 1:21 dice: “Así que quiten de su vida todo lo malo y lo sucio, y acepten con humildad la palabra que Dios les ha sembrado en el corazón, porque tiene el poder para salvar su alma.” (NTV).

Es hora de deshacerte de la amargura, el miedo y el orgullo que te impiden escuchar la voz de Dios y vivir su propósito para tu vida. Entonces podrás escuchar a Dios con el corazón y la mente abiertos y “aceptar humildemente” lo que te está diciendo.

The World Does Not Revolve Around You

“Look out for one another’s interests, not just for your own.”

Philippians 2:4 (GNT)

Everything in our society conditions us to think of ourselves first. But the Bible says, “Look out for one another’s interests, not just for your own” (Philippians 2:4 GNT).

That is such a countercultural verse. We don’t naturally think about other people’s needs. That’s something we have to learn to do. We more naturally think about our needs, our desires, our goals, and our ambitions. As a result, millions of people are disconnected because they’re only thinking of themselves and not anyone else’s needs.

Recently, when I was watching TV, I saw three commercials, one after another, with the same tagline: “You deserve it.” “Buy this shampoo! You deserve it.” “Buy this expensive car because you deserve it!”

But let me share two very basic truths about life. First, the world does not revolve around you. You’re incredibly special in God’s eyes, and you were created for a purpose—but the world does not revolve around you.

The second truth is this: God has promised that when you focus on meeting the needs of other people, he will meet your needs. Why? Because he wants you to learn to be unselfish. He wants you to learn to be loving and generous like he is.

When you’re considerate of other people’s needs, you don’t expect them to be perfect. The Bible says, “Make allowance for each other’s faults” (Colossians 3:13 NLT). You’re not perfect, so why should you demand it of anybody else?

Proverbs 17:9 says, “Love forgets mistakes” (TLB). When you are trying to make a connection with someone, you don’t have to remain blind to that person’s faults. You can just choose to overlook their imperfections.

Great friends are good forgetters. Instead of dwelling on someone’s mistakes or faults, a good friend considers the other person’s needs.

Cuatro Maneras en las que Dios Responde a la Oración Persistente

“Oren en el Espíritu en todo momento y en toda ocasión. Manténganse alerta y sean persistentes en sus oraciones por todos los creyentes en todas partes”. Efesios 6:18 (NTV)

No existe la oración sin respuesta. Puede que Dios no responda siempre como a ti te gusta, pero siempre responde a la oración en una de estas cuatro maneras:

Cuando tu pedido no es correcto, Dios dice: “No”.

Dios no te va a dar algo que sea dañino para ti. ¡Él solo te da lo mejor de sí! A veces dice “no” porque tu pedido no coincide con lo mejor para ti.

Cuando no estás listo, Dios dice: “Crece”.

Tal vez Dios quiera darte algo, tal vez incluso una bendición tan grande que no puedas ni imaginarla, pero no estás listo para la responsabilidad en este momento. Incluso podría causar estrés en tu vida si te lo diera ahora. ¡No dejes de orar! Sigue leyendo la Palabra de Dios y haz de Cristo tu mayor prioridad.

Cuando el momento no es el correcto, Dios dice: “Espera”.

Habacuc 2:3 dice: “Esta visión es para un tiempo futuro. Describe el fin, y este se cumplirá. Aunque parezca que se demora en llegar, espera con paciencia, porque sin lugar a dudas sucederá. No se tardará” (NTV). Viene, pero aún no está aquí. Dios quiere tomarlo con calma, hasta que estés listo para poder manejarlo. El crecimiento a menudo necesita pasar por un proceso. Y siempre lleva tiempo.

Cuando tu pedido, el tiempo y tu carácter están alineados, Dios dice: “Ve”.

Efesios 6:18 dice: “Oren en el Espíritu en todo momento y en toda ocasión. Manténganse alerta y sean persistentes en sus oraciones por todos los creyentes en todas partes” (NTV). No oras persistentemente porque estás tratando de convencer a Dios. Oras persistentemente para estar listo cuando Dios diga: “Ve”.

Siempre tienes que creer que Dios va a contestar a tu oración. Puede que no siempre sea la respuesta que deseas o esperas, pero siempre será para tu bien y para la gloria de Dios.

Three Things Fear Does to Relationships

“For the Holy Spirit, God’s gift, does not want you to be afraid of people, but to be wise and strong, and to love them and enjoy being with them.”

2 Timothy 1:7 (TLB)

If you want to connect with someone, you need to be willing to take the first step. This often requires courage. Why? Because it’s fear that disconnects human beings.

When we’re full of fear and anxiety, it’s difficult to get close to others. In fact, we back off. We’re afraid of being rejected, manipulated, vulnerable, or hurt. All these fears can cause us to stay disconnected in life.

In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve gave us an example of what many of us do when we’re afraid. After they sinned, God came looking for Adam. And Adam told God, “I was afraid . . . so I hid” (Genesis 3:10 NIV). People have been doing that ever since. We’re afraid, so we hide. We hide our sins. We hide our true selves. We don’t let people know what we’re really like—because if we do and they don’t like us, we’ll face rejection. And so we pretend. 

Fear does three terrible things to relationships:

Fear makes us defensive. When people point out our weaknesses, we retaliate and defend ourselves.

Fear keeps us distant. We don’t let people get close to us. We withdraw. We hide our emotions.

Fear makes us demanding. The more insecure we are, the more we attempt to control things. We try to have the last word in a relationship. We seek to dominate.

So where do you get the courage to take the first step to connect with someone and go to a deeper level of intimacy?

You get it from God’s Spirit in your life. The Bible says, “For the Holy Spirit, God’s gift, does not want you to be afraid of people, but to be wise and strong, and to love them and enjoy being with them” (2 Timothy 1:7 TLB).

How do you know when you’re filled with God’s Spirit? You’re more courageous in your relationships. You love people. You enjoy being with them. You’re not afraid of them—because God’s Spirit is in your life.

The Bible says that “God is love” (1 John 4:8 ESV) and that “love casts out all fear” (1 John 4:18 TLB). Is fear undermining your relationships? The more of God you have in your life, the less fear will have a hold on your life.

La Oración Persistente Revela tus Prioridades

“Esas cosas dominan el pensamiento de los incrédulos, pero su Padre celestial ya conoce todas sus necesidades. Busquen el reino de Dios por encima de todo lo demás y lleven una vida justa, y él les dará todo lo que necesiten”. Mateo 6:32-33 (NTV)

Cuando oras por algo más de una vez, no estás convenciendo a Dios para que lo haga. ¡Él ya está esperando para dártelo! Solo quiere saber qué es realmente importante para ti.

Orar persistentemente pone a prueba tus prioridades. Si no vale la pena orar repetidamente, entonces no es una prioridad.

¿Quieres saber qué es importante para ti? Es lo que más te preocupa. La preocupación te dice lo que es importante en tu vida. Si te preocupas por eso, es importante para ti. Si no te preocupas por eso, entonces o se lo has confiado a Dios, o no es tan importante para ti.

Cada vez que comiences a preocuparte, debes detenerte y convertir la preocupación en una oración. Si oraras por todo lo que te preocupa, tendrías mucho menos de qué preocuparte. La preocupación no cambiará nada. ¡Pero la oración puede cambiarlo todo!

Jesús dice en el Sermón de la Montaña: “Esas cosas dominan el pensamiento de los incrédulos, pero su Padre celestial ya conoce todas sus necesidades. Busquen el reino de Dios por encima de todo lo demás y lleven una vida justa, y él les dará todo lo que necesiten” Mateo 6:32-33 (NTV).

Cuando tus prioridades son correctas, la respuesta de Dios es “sí”. Él te dará todo lo que necesitas si tu primera preocupación es vivir para Su Reino.

Es posible que estés diciendo: “Estoy esperando que Dios responda esta oración”. ¿Estás esperando en Dios, o Él está esperando por ti? Tal vez quiera poner a prueba tus deseos y prioridades. Quiere saber qué es lo más importante en tu vida antes de darte una respuesta.

La Biblia promete: “El Señor no negará ningún bien a quienes hacen lo que es correcto” Salmo 84:11 (NTV).

Cuando vives para Jesús, cuando le prestas atención y te mantienes conectado en oración con Él, entonces te dará lo que tu corazón desea.

¡Dios no retendrá nada de su bondad!

You’re Significant in the Body of Christ

“Just as there are many parts to our bodies, so it is with Christ’s body. We are all parts of it, and it takes every one of us to make it complete, for we each have different work to do. So we belong to each other, and each needs all the others.”

Romans 12:4-5 (TLB)

In the Bible, the church is often called the “body of Christ.” What Jesus Christ did when he was here in his physical body, he wants his followers to continue to do today. We are the body of Christ here on Earth.

The Bible says, “Just as there are many parts to our bodies, so it is with Christ’s body. We are all parts of it, and it takes every one of us to make it complete, for we each have different work to do. So we belong to each other, and each needs all the others” (Romans 12:4-5 TLB).

Everybody is needed in the body of Christ. It takes every one of us to make it complete.

It’s like a jigsaw puzzle. When you put together a puzzle and one piece is missing, what are you going to notice? The one missing piece.

That’s the way it is in the body of Christ. Everyone is needed. And if even one “small” piece is missing, you’ll notice.

You may say, “I’m just a toenail in the body of Christ.” Have you ever lost a toenail? You notice it! I once dropped a 12-pound weight on a toenail. It was just a tiny part of my body, but I sure noticed it was missing for about six months.

Never confuse prominence and significance. Something can be prominent but not significant. My nose is prominent—it’s one of the first things people see when they look at me. But it’s not significant. I could lose my nose and keep on living for many years. But there are things inside me that no one ever sees, like my liver, heart, and lungs. They’re not prominent, but they are very significant. If I lost them, I’d die.

You may not feel prominent in the body of Christ, but you are significant. Christ’s body here on Earth has many parts—and each one of them is needed. No matter who you are and what your role in Christ’s body is, you have important work to do!

Orando por tus Deseos más Profundos

“Deléitate en el Señor, y él te concederá los deseos de tu corazón”. Salmo 37:4 (NTV)

La oración persistente pone a prueba tus deseos. Cuando comiences a orar para abrir camino y avanzar en tu vida, descubrirás que tu oración evoluciona y se desarrolla a medida que te concentras en lo que realmente quieres.

Todo el mundo tiene deseos. La razón por la que tienes deseos es porque Dios los puso en ti. Todos los dones de Dios son buenos, pero un deseo puede ser mal usado, abusado y pervertido. El fuego es bueno en la chimenea, pero el fuego en el lugar equivocado puede incendiar una casa.

Hay buenos deseos en tu vida, y también hay malos. Hay deseos apropiados e inapropiados en tu vida, útiles y dañinos, constructivos y destructivos. Cuando oras persistentemente, tus deseos se filtran y Dios revela cuáles deseos son buenos y cuáles no.

La oración persistente también muestra la diferencia entre un capricho y un deseo profundo. Si le pides algo a Dios solo una vez, no es un deseo profundo. Es solo un capricho. Dios no está en el negocio de cumplir todos tus caprichos. Como tu Padre celestial, Él está más interesado en cuidar tus deseos más profundos.

En última instancia, Dios quiere concederte tus deseos. Pero solo quiere asegurarse de que Él es tu primer deseo y todo lo demás es secundario. A medida que oras persistentemente, tu corazón se vuelve más y más hacia Dios y las cosas que Él ama. Entonces comienzas a desear aquellas cosas que honran a Dios y lo mantienen primero en tu corazón. No hay casi nada que Dios no haga por la mujer o el hombre que pone a Dios primero en cada área de su vida.

La Biblia promete: “Deléitate en el Señor, y él te concederá los deseos de tu corazón” Salmo 37:4 (NTV).

Dios no es tacaño. ¡Él está esperando que le pidas! Deléitate en el Señor. Préstale tu atención mientras oras persistentemente y filtra los caprichos para que estés orando por tus deseos más profundos.

Christianity: Adopted Into the Family

“You will all be joined together, and you will give glory to God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Christ accepted you, so you should accept each other, which will bring glory to God.”

Romans 10:13 (NIV)

Most people think Christianity is a belief system. It’s true that Christianity includes beliefs—but it’s so much more than that. It’s about belonging and connection. When you’re a Christian, you belong to the family of God and are connected to the body of Christ.

There are only two ways to get into a family: You can be born into it or adopted into it. Both phrases are used in the Bible to explain what it means to be brought into the family of God. You are “born again” into the family of God, and you are “adopted” into the family of God.

Once you’re born, you can’t be unborn. Your relationship with your parents may be broken, but you are still their child. In the same way, once you are born again into the family of God, you can’t be unborn. You remain in the family of God!

God also says you’re adopted into his family. According to New Testament-era Roman law, people could disown children they birthed. But if they adopted children, they were forbidden to ever disown them. God says you are not only born again into his family, but he has adopted you—and there is no way he will ever disown you. That’s good news!

You may ask, “Really? No matter what I do, God won’t let me go?” Yes, no matter what you do!

When you become part of the family of God, you become part of his church. Church isn’t something you go to; it’s something you belong to. The Bible says, “I want you to know how people who are members of God’s family must live. God’s family is the church” (1 Timothy 3:15 GW).

And Romans 15:6-7 explains more about what the church—the family of God—looks like: “You will all be joined together, and you will give glory to God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Christ accepted you, so you should accept each other, which will bring glory to God” (NCV).

Just like you are God’s child forever, you are part of his bigger family—the church—forever. That has been God’s plan all along—to make you part of his forever family!

No matter what you’ve done or where you’ve been, you’ve got a place in God’s forever family ready and waiting for you. The invitation is wide open. Just believe and receive.

Are you ready? Here’s a prayer you can start with: “Dear God, I know when I die, I’m going to give an account of my life to you. I know I have sinned against you, and I have lived by my plan, not yours. I want that to change, starting right now. I want to turn away from my sins and toward you.

“Thank you for sending Jesus to die for all that I’ve done wrong so that I don’t have to pay the penalty. I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness. I know only your grace can save me, Lord. I could never be good enough to get into a perfect place.

“Jesus, thank you for loving me so much that you took all my guilt on yourself. You made me acceptable for heaven, and I humbly ask you to save me and make me part of your family forever. I believe in you, Jesus. And I believe you will keep your promise to save me instantly, certainly, completely, and eternally. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”

La Prueba Viene Antes que la Bendición

“Los pasaré por el fuego y los haré puros. Los refinaré como se refina la plata y los purificaré como se purifica el oro. Invocarán mi nombre y yo les responderé”. Zacarías 13:9 (NTV)

Algunas oraciones se contestan de inmediato, pero otras tardan semanas, meses o incluso años. ¡Probablemente eso lo sepas demasiado bien! Pero hay buenas noticias: mientras oras por la respuesta de Dios, aprenderás algunas cosas que no puedes aprender de ninguna otra manera.

En la espera, hay bendición. Una de las bendiciones es que aprendes más sobre ti mismo cuando no obtienes instantáneamente todo lo que quieres.

Para dos de las oraciones más importantes que he orado, Dios tardó 13 años en responder a una de ellas y 25 años a la otra. ¡Pero respondió! Eran las oraciones más importantes de mi vida en ese momento. ¿Por qué tomó tanto tiempo? Porque mientras yo estaba trabajando en la oración, Dios estaba trabajando en mí.

Cuando estás siendo pasado por fuego, te preguntas: ¿por qué tienes que pasar por él? Es para probarte y purificarte. Cuando oras por algo una y otra vez, te enfrentas a pruebas que revelan más sobre ti.

Dios dice en Zacarías 13:9: “Los pasaré por el fuego y los haré puros. Los refinaré como se refina la plata y los purificaré como se purifica el oro” (NTV).

El oro se prueba colocándolo en una cubeta grande y calentándolo hasta que se calienta tanto que se queman todas las impurezas. ¿Cómo saben los orfebres cuándo el oro y la plata son puros? Cuando pueden ver su reflejo en ellos.

Dios puede ver su reflejo en ti cuando todas las impurezas se han quemado de tu vida, después de haber pasado por el fuego. Él dice que, después de haber hecho la prueba y la purificación, “invocarán mi nombre y yo les responderé” Zacarías 13:9b (NTV).

La oración contestada viene después de la prueba. Antes de cada bendición, hay una prueba. Dios te prueba con estrés antes de confiarte el éxito. Estos son los principios de la oración persistente.

Dios te va a probar antes de bendecirte. Y en esa prueba, aprenderás mucho sobre ti mismo. Si dejas de orar, nunca aprenderás las lecciones que te ayudarán a ser más como Jesús.

Sigue orando con persistencia cada día. Y recuerda que después de la prueba, vendrá la bendición.

How Do You Get God’s Grace?

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Romans 10:13 (NIV)

The Bible says in Romans 6:23, “The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord” (NLT). You might say that grace is the gift that keeps on giving.

In fact, God’s grace will last all the way to heaven—and through eternity. What’s heaven going to be like? You’re going to be reunited with loved ones who know the Lord. You’ll be rewarded for your faith. You’ll be assigned work that you love to do. You will be released from pain, depression, despair, shame, and guilt. And you’re going to rejoice and party for eternity. What a deal!

Spending an eternity in heaven is a free gift—you don’t need to earn it. In fact, you can only get to heaven by the grace of God. It’s the best deal anyone will ever offer you.

But there’s a catch: You have to accept it. The Bible says, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13 NIV).

To receive the grace of God, you have to call out to him; you have to accept his amazing grace.

Imagine going home today and finding a gift on your table, but you leave it there for an entire year, unopened. That would be ridiculous! A gift is worthless unless you accept it.

In the same way, for the gift of God’s grace to make any difference in your life, you have to accept it.

Sometimes people hold off on accepting God’s grace because they’re afraid of being rejected. It’s true that friends and even family may reject you. But God isn’t mad at you and will never reject you. In fact, he longs to give you the gift of his grace and secure a future for you in heaven. The Bible says, “The Lord longs to be gracious to you” (Isaiah 30:18 NIV).

Have you been overwhelmed by shame or fear of rejection? You can get rid of that feeling today. You just need to accept the gift of God’s grace!

Talk It Over

What shame or fear has kept you from accepting God’s grace (in the past or now)? Have you fully released it to God?
Think of someone in your life who needs to hear about the good news of God’s grace. What do you think is keeping this person from accepting God’s free gift of grace?
The Bible says, “The Lord longs to be gracious to you” (Isaiah 30:18 NIV). What difference does that truth make in your life?

Are you ready to accept God’s grace?

The Bible says you can only get to heaven by trusting in God through his Son, Jesus Christ. You cannot earn your way into heaven: “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).


If you’re ready to commit your life to Jesus, start with this prayer:

“Dear God, you have promised that if I believe in your Son, Jesus Christ, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

"I confess I have sinned, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus died to take away my sins and that you raised him to life. I want to trust Jesus as my Savior and follow him as Lord from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen."
