Qué Significa Tener una Relación con Dios

“Todos los que creyeron en él y lo recibieron, les dio el derecho de llegar a ser hijos de Dios”. Juan 1:12 (NTV)

Ayer hablamos de por qué es importante que conozcas el propósito de tu vida para que Dios pueda usarte mientras estás aquí en la Tierra. Entonces, si esta vida es una preparación para la eternidad, ¿cómo lo haces? ¿cómo usas tu vida aquí en la Tierra para prepararte para la eternidad?

En primer lugar, conocer a Jesucristo.

La Biblia dice: “Todos los que creyeron en él y lo recibieron, les dio el derecho de llegar a ser hijos de Dios” Juan 1:12 (NTV). Fíjate que no todo el mundo es hijo de Dios, sólo los que lo reciben en su vida. Dios quiere que establezcas una relación con Él confiando en Él.

Estableces una relación con Dios de la misma manera que estableces cualquier relación. Si quiero tener una relación con mi esposa, Kay, ¿qué tengo que hacer? Primero, tengo que pasar tiempo con ella. Tengo que demostrarle que estoy interesado en conocerla, dedicándole tiempo y haciendo que el tiempo cuente. No puedes tener una relación con alguien con quien nunca pasas tiempo.

Es la misma manera de desarrollar una relación con Dios. Le dedicas tiempo en tu agenda. De hecho, lo conviertes en la primera y más importante parte de tu día a través de un tiempo diario a solas con Dios. Te quedas a solas con Dios, le adoras y aprendes de Él. Pasas tiempo regular y significativo con Él.

Lo segundo que tienes que hacer para tener una relación es hablar. Hay muchas maneras de ser más intencional en tu vida de oración. Tal vez necesites empezar un diario de oración con peticiones y oraciones contestadas. Podrías hacer una tarjeta de oración usando las Escrituras y ponerla en el espejo de tu baño o en tu escritorio en el trabajo para que te recuerde orar la Palabra de Dios. O tal vez tu familia necesita tener un tiempo de oración todos los días. Sea lo que sea lo que necesites hacer para aumentar tu conversación con Dios, ¡hazlo!

Nunca te arrepentirás de haber invertido tu tiempo, tu energía y tu vida en conocer mejor a Dios. Da hoy el primer paso para prepararte para ser usado por Dios pasando tiempo con Él y hablando con Él.

Why You Pray Is More Important Than What You Pray For

“When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”

James 4:3 (NIV)

God wants to bless your life and then watch you bless other people’s lives with the same benefits he gives to you. In fact, one condition for answered prayer is a willingness to use God’s blessings to help those less fortunate.

Proverbs 21:13 says, “Whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor will also cry out and not be answered” (NIV). God is saying that, if you ignore those around you who are in obvious difficulty, it doesn’t make sense to expect him to bail you out of your own difficulties.

God wants you to be like him, and God is love. One of the ways you prove you have love is that you’re willing to be generous toward other people. The principle of stewardship is repeated throughout Scripture: God blesses us so that we might be a blessing to other people.

For instance, you might ask God for good health, but what are you going to do with that healthy body after you’ve got it? Are you praying just to help yourself, or are you praying so you can help other people too? When you ask God to bless your business or career, are you willing to give back a portion of what God has blessed you with?

The Bible says in James 4:3, “When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures” (NIV). Motive is important in prayer. Why you pray is more important than what you pray for.

Is it possible to pray for the right thing with the wrong motive? Sure. I’m not saying you should never pray for your own personal needs. Jesus says to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11 ESV). But you have to check your motive. Are you willing to share your blessing with other people, or are you going to hoard it all for yourself?

God is not interested in simply satisfying your selfishness. The conditions of prayer are that you have an honest relationship with God, a forgiving attitude toward other people, and a willingness to share God’s blessings with other people. God loves you, so he’s teaching you how to pray in an effective way.

Usa Tu Vida para Prepararte para la Eternidad

“Dios nos escogió en Cristo desde antes de la creación del mundo, para que fuéramos santos y sin defecto en su presencia. Por su amor, nos había destinado a ser adoptados como hijos suyos por medio de Jesucristo”. Efesios 1:4-5a (DHH)

Si vas a prepararte para ser usado por Dios, lo primero que tienes que hacer es entender el propósito de tu vida.

La Biblia deja muy claro en Efesios 1:4-5a: “Dios nos escogió en Cristo desde antes de la creación del mundo, para que fuéramos santos y sin defecto en su presencia. Por su amor, nos había destinado a ser adoptados como hijos suyos por medio de Jesucristo” (DHH).

Dios te hizo para que formaras parte de su familia. Te hizo para tener una relación contigo. Te hizo para amarte y ser amado a cambio. Pero sólo hay una manera de llegar a ser parte de la familia de Dios: la fe en Jesucristo. Cuando pones tu fe y confianza en Jesús, te conviertes en parte de la familia de Dios.

Dios no sólo quiere que formes parte de su familia, sino también que pases la eternidad con Él.

Efesios 1:10 dice: “El plan de Dios, que se cumplirá a su debido tiempo, es poner bajo el mando de Cristo todo lo que hay en el cielo y en la tierra“. El propósito de Dios es que primero llegues a ser parte de Su familia, que llegues a conocerlo, y luego te pases toda la eternidad con Él.

La historia avanza hacia un punto culminante. Un día, Dios va a tomar a todos los que han puesto su fe en Él y los reunirá a todos para pasar la eternidad con Él en el Cielo.

La vida es una preparación para la eternidad. La Biblia dice, “Dios ha plantado la eternidad en el corazón de todo hombre y mujer” Eclesiastés 3: 11a (NBV). Eso significa que fuiste hecho para durar eternamente. Fuiste hecho para la eternidad. Vivirás para siempre. Cada ser humano va a vivir para siempre en uno de dos lugares: con Dios en el Cielo o separado de Dios en el Infierno.

Dios no te creó sólo para los 80 o 90 o los años que tengas en este planeta. Dios tiene planes a largo plazo para tu vida. Entonces, ¿de qué se trata la vida aquí? Es una preparación para la eternidad. Eso significa que Dios está más interesado en prepararte para la eternidad que en hacerte feliz aquí y ahora. Claro que te ama y quiere que seas feliz, pero no a costa de que estés mal preparado para la eternidad.

La vida es un entrenamiento. Es el calentamiento para el gran acontecimiento. Tienes que prepararte para la eternidad conociendo a Dios, pareciéndote más a Jesús y dejando que Dios te use para cumplir su propósito en la Tierra.

How to Trust God in the Delays

“Brothers and sisters, be patient until the Lord comes again. See how farmers wait for their precious crops to grow. They wait patiently for fall and spring rains. You, too, must be patient. Don’t give up hope. The Lord will soon be here.”

James 5:7-8 (GW)

Whatever problems you’re facing, you need to remember that God is working behind the scenes. You need to trust him and be patient.

But how do you do that? What do you do while you’re waiting? How do you build a faith that trusts God during the delays?

The Bible says, “Brothers and sisters, be patient until the Lord comes again. See how farmers wait for their precious crops to grow. They wait patiently for fall and spring rains. You, too, must be patient. Don’t give up hope. The Lord will soon be here” (James 5:7-8 GW).

Like a farmer, you need to wait expectantly. While farmers wait, they prepare for the harvest. They get ready. They don’t sit around thinking, “I wonder if this is going to grow or not.” They expect their crops to grow. They prepare for the harvest so that when it comes, they can reap the benefits.

So, you expect God to act and provide. Psalm 130:5 says, “I wait expectantly, trusting God to help, for he has promised” (TLB). That promise is all over the Bible, in verses like Isaiah 49:23: “No one who waits for my help will be disappointed” (GNT).

What have you been waiting for God to do? Maybe you’ve been waiting for him to transform your marriage, solve a financial problem, heal a hurt, or reach someone in your family who is not a believer. Whatever you’ve been waiting on God to do in your life, do you really expect him to do it? If you’re not preparing yourself while you wait, you’re not really expecting anything to happen.

Quite often when we think we’re waiting on God, God is actually waiting on us. You may not be ready to handle the blessing he wants to give you, and so he’s waiting on you to spiritually mature.

One thing that will help you wait patiently on God is to remember his goodness and grace. He is working in your life, even when you can’t see what he’s doing and even if you think his timing is too slow.

Get still, spend time in God’s Word, and learn how to be more like Jesus. Then get busy doing the work that will prepare you for the harvest.

La Envidia es una Señal de que no Confías en Dios

“Corramos con perseverancia la carrera que Dios nos ha puesto por delante”. Hebreos 12:1b (NTV)

Una de las señales de que la envidia está en tu corazón y necesitas eliminarla es que utilizas constantemente esta frase: “No es justo”. “¡No es justo que él pueda hacer eso y yo no!”. “No es justo que para ella sea fácil y para mí no”. “No es justo que sus hijos reciban el premio y los míos no”. “No es justo que ellos puedan permitirse esas vacaciones y yo no”.

La envidia es en realidad una batalla con Dios. Estás en una guerra con Dios cada vez que envidias. Porque lo que estás diciendo es, “Dios, lo arruinaste. No lo hiciste bien. No tuviste el cerebro suficiente para hacerme como debo ser. Porque si realmente me amaras, no me hubieras hecho a mí. Me habrías hecho otra persona”.

Y Dios dice: “¿Qué? ¡Si no te hubiera hecho tú, no existirías!”.

El problema con la envidia es este: No confías en Dios. No crees que Él tenga su mayor interés en tu Corazón. No crees que Él te conozca mucho más que tú, sobre lo que es mejor para ti.

El problema con la envidia es este: No confías en Dios. No crees que Él tenga en el corazón lo mejor para ti. No crees que Él sepa más que tú sobre lo que es mejor para ti.

Hay cosas en tu vida que no tienes porque Dios conoce la razón por la que no deberías tenerlas. Hay algunos talentos que Dios no te dio. Hay algunas oportunidades que Dios no te da. Y hay algunas experiencias en la vida que no tienes.

Puedes confiar en Dios o agitar el puño con rabia. Sin embargo, Dios es más inteligente que tú y conoce mejor las cosas. ¡Él conoce lo mejor!

Dios ha dado a cada uno de nosotros una carrera para correr. No puedes correr la carrera de nadie más, ni nadie más puede correr la tuya. Puedes correr tu carrera, o puedes cambiar tu propia carrera. Eso es lo que la mayoría de las personas hacen —ellos cambian sus propias carreras en la vida y después se preguntan porque se estrellan con callejones sin salida.

Dios quiere que corras la carrera que tiene para ti. Es un plan diseñado a medida para tu vida. Cuando te concentras en la carrera de Dios, no necesitas preocuparte por la carrera que todos los demás están corriendo. No te molestarán las multitudes que animan o abuchean en las gradas. Vives para una sola audiencia: Dios.

La Biblia dice en Hebreos 12:1b, “Corramos con perseverancia la carrera que Dios nos ha puesto por delante” (NTV). Cuanto más entiendas tu llamado de Dios, menos te preocuparás por lo que Dios ha llamado a hacer a otras personas.

El tiempo que gastas envidiando otras personas es tiempo perdido. Tan solo sé quien Dios quiere que seas.

How to Be Confident During Uncertain Times

“Be patient, resting your hearts on the ultimate certainty.”

James 5:8 (PHILLIPS)

It can be hard today to tell what’s true and what isn’t. We get conflicting information from multiple sources. It seems like there are studies and experts, research and polls, that all contradict each other.

When things seem uncertain, we can remain certain of this truth: God is in control.

The Bible says, “Brothers and sisters, be patient until the Lord comes again. See how farmers wait for their precious crops to grow. They wait patiently for fall and spring rains. You, too, must be patient. Don’t give up hope. The Lord will soon be here. Brothers and sisters, stop complaining about each other, or you will be condemned. Realize that the judge is standing at the door” (James 5:7-9 GW).

Why does James remind us several times in this passage that the Lord is coming back? Because it’s the ultimate proof that God is in control.

History is God’s story. It’s not circular. There is no circle of life. History is linear, and it’s moving to a climax. God has a plan. God has a purpose. And one day Jesus is going to return.

Everything is on schedule. We don’t know when he’s coming back, but the Bible talks more about Jesus’ second coming than it does about his first coming. That means it should change how we live our lives every day. We should be living with great expectation!

Although your situation may seem out of control and feel painful, nothing is beyond God’s control. Be patient. God’s timing is perfect. He’s never late. He is always in control.

The PHILLIPS paraphrase of James 5:8 says, “Be patient, resting your hearts on the ultimate certainty.”

What’s the ultimate certainty? Jesus is going to come back one day. And nothing can stop that. No person. No power. Knowing that all of history is under God’s control and that Jesus has promised to return should give you all the confidence you need in uncertain times.

When you feel like you can’t count on anything else, count on the truth: God’s got this. And Jesus will come back one day soon to make all things right and new.

Talk It Over

What does it mean to live with expectation of Jesus’ return?
Does knowing that God is in control of history give you comfort and confidence? Why or why not?
In what situation do you need to remember that God is in control? How have you seen him at work already in that area?

What will you do when Jesus returns?

The Bible says you can only get to heaven by trusting in God’s Son, Jesus Christ. You can’t earn your way into heaven: “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).

If you’re ready to commit your life to Jesus, start by praying this prayer:

“Dear God, you have promised that if I believe in your Son, Jesus Christ, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess I have sinned, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus died to take away my sins and that you raised him to life. I want to trust Jesus as my Savior and follow him as Lord from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

El Contentamiento es una Señal de la Madurez Espiritual

“Disfruta de lo que tienes en lugar de desear lo que no tienes; soñar con tener cada vez más no tiene sentido, es como perseguir el viento”. Eclesiastés 6:9 (NTV)

En lugar de lamentarnos, debemos estar agradecidos. En lugar de quejarnos, debemos recordar que todo es un regalo de Dios.

La Biblia dice en 1 Corintios 4:7-8, “Pues, ¿qué derecho tienen a juzgar así? ¿Qué tienen que Dios no les haya dado? Y si todo lo que tienen proviene de Dios, ¿por qué se jactan como si no fuera un regalo? Ustedes piensan que ya tienen todo lo que necesitan” (NTV).

La envidia siempre pregunta, “¿Por qué ellos?” “¿Por qué él tiene mejor salud?” “¿Por qué ella tiene un trabajo y un marido, y yo no tengo ninguno de los dos?”.

La gratitud dice, “¿Por qué yo?” “¿por qué tengo agua limpia para beber cuando tanta gente en mundo no tiene?” “¿Por qué no estoy bajo persecución? ¿Por qué no estoy en prisión por causa de mi fe?”.

La envidia se basa en el mito de que tienes que tener más para ser más feliz. No es verdad. La felicidad es una elección. Si no eres feliz ahora, no serás feliz con más. Puedo dar testimonio de personas que tienen mucho más que tú, y no les hace más felices. Eres tan feliz como decides serlo.

Eclesiastés 6:9 dice, “Disfruta de lo que tienes en lugar de desear lo que no tienes; soñar con tener cada vez más no tiene sentido, es como perseguir el viento” (NTV). Esto se llama contentamiento. Todos nosotros necesitamos aprender a tener contentamiento.

¿Por qué? Porque por naturaleza no eres una persona contenta. ¡Ninguno de nosotros lo es! No es natural estar contento. Es signo de madurez tener contentamiento. Los bebés no están contentos. A menos que todo esté a su manera, ellos no están satisfechos. La madurez es aprender a estar contento cuando las cosas no van a tu manera. Es mejor estar satisfecho con lo que tienes que siempre querer algo más.

Déjame aclarar: La envidia no es desear; desear es bueno. La envidia no es ambición; la ambición es buena; debes ser ambicioso y trabajar por buenas cosas en tu vida. La envidia no es soñar; fuiste creado para soñar. La envidia no es tener metas; debes tener metas en tu vida. Los sueños, las ambiciones, las metas y los deseos son cosas que Dios puso en ti.

La envidia es resentir que otras personas ya tengan algo y pensar que tú no puedes ser feliz hasta que tú también lo tengas. Ambas cosas son mentira. En vez de eso aprende a ser agradecido por quién eres y por lo que tienes. ¡Todo lo que tienes es un regalo de parte de Dios!

Is What You’re Doing the Best Use of Your Life?

“Be very careful how you live. Do not live like those who are not wise. Live wisely. I mean that you should use every chance you have for doing good, because these are evil times. So do not be foolish with your lives. But learn what the Lord wants you to do.”

Ephesians 5:15-17 (ICB)

If you want to make an impact with your life, you’ve got to get control of your time. Your time is your life. If you don’t learn to manage your time, you’ll limit the legacy of your life.

Ephesians 5:15-17 says, “Be very careful how you live. Do not live like those who are not wise. Live wisely. I mean that you should use every chance you have for doing good, because these are evil times. So do not be foolish with your lives. But learn what the Lord wants you to do” (ICB).

We all have the same amount of time every week: 168 hours. It’s what you do with it that counts! If you waste time, you’re wasting your life because your time is your life. You have to stop and ask, “Is this the best use of my time? Is this the best use of my life?”

You don’t have time for everything. But the good news is that God doesn’t expect you to do everything. So don’t feel guilty about it! There are only a few things worth doing in the first place.

Effective people figure out what’s essential in life and what’s trivial, and they spend more time doing the essential things and less time doing the trivial things. You can’t eliminate everything that’s trivial in your life, but you can reduce it.

This may sound simple, but it’s often difficult to choose between what’s best for your life and what’s easiest for your life—especially when you’re tired. When you’re tired, you don’t want to do the best thing. You want to do what’s easy. That’s why, if you’re really going to make something of your life, you have to learn to get some rest. If you’re not rested, you won’t have the mental, emotional, and physical strength to say, “I’m going to do the right thing instead of the easiest thing.”

Don’t waste your life. Don’t settle for second best. Don’t go through life just existing. You were not created to just coast. God made you for a mission and a purpose. That starts by asking, “Is what I’m doing the best use of my life?”

El Amor Celebra la Bondad de Dios con los Demás

“Gocémonos con los que se gozan y lloremos con los que lloran”. Romanos 12:15 (RVC)

La Biblia nos dice “gocémonos con los que se gozan y lloremos con los que lloran” Romanos 12:15 (RVC). ¿Has notado que la segunda parte de la oración es fácil, pero la primera parte puede ser verdaderamente difícil?

Cuando alguien está teniendo un tiempo difícil, es fácil sentir simpatía. Es fácil alentar las personas cuando se encuentran desanimadas. Pero lo que a veces no podemos soportar es que la persona reciba un ascenso. No somos muy buenos para manejar el éxito de otras personas. En vez de regocijarnos en ello, lo resentimos. De hecho, deseamos que sucedan malas cosas a las personas, porque de alguna forma pensamos que si apagamos las velas de los demás, las nuestras brillarán con más intensidad.

Hay suficiente Gracia de Dios para todos. Si Dios quiere dar a otros la misma cantidad, ¿qué importa? Ni siquiera debería de estar preocupado de lo que Él le quiere dar a otras personas. Debería estar preocupado de lo que yo estoy haciendo con lo que se me ha dado.

Déjame que te explique algo sobre la envidia. La envidia ocurre cerca de ti. Ocurre en tu relación con las personas que te rodean. Normalmente no envidias a la gente con la que no te relacionas. Puedes tener una especie de adoración de ídolo que dice: “Ojalá fuera como esa super estrella”. Pero en realidad no es tan irritante como la gente más cercana a ti. Esas son las personas en las que más te cuesta ver el éxito: tu familia y tus amigos.

La envidia es un mal insidioso. Devalúa a los otros, destruye relaciones, y te hace miserable. Está escondida, pero es destructiva. Provoca que te pierdas momentos muy felices.

Te hubiera gustado estar casado, pero no lo estás. O estuviste casado, pero se terminó. Ahora odias las bodas. Cuando recibes una invitación a una boda comienzas a resentir. No te gustan las bodas. porque piensas que cuando la vela de otro está brillando, apagará la tuya. Estás equivocado.

Disfrutarás mucho más de la vida si aprendes a gozarte del éxito de las demás personas. Si solamente eres feliz cuando las cosas van bien para ti, serás miserable la mayor parte de tu vida, porque las cosas no siempre irán bien para ti, ni para nadie más. Pero si aprendes a alegrarte del éxito de otras personas y disfrutas de la celebración de otros, puedes estar feliz todo el tiempo.

La Biblia dice en 1 Corintios 13:4, “El amor no tiene envidia”. La envidia es la cosa menos amorosa que puedes hacerle a alguien. El amor no es envidioso.

El amor celebra la bondad de Dios para con otros.

How Will Your Decision Affect Others?

“Each of us will give an account of himself to God. So don’t criticize each other anymore. Try instead to live in such a way that you will never make your brother stumble by letting him see you doing something he thinks is wrong.”

Romans 14:12-13 (TLB)

One of the biggest mistakes we make in life is forgetting how much our actions influence the people around us. Every day you are tempted to make decisions that may seem best for you but could have a devastating effect on the people around you. If you want to make wise decisions, you need to ask, “Will my choice harm other people?”

That’s the opposite of our culture. Our society teaches us to think only of ourselves. But God wants you to think about others, not just yourself. In fact, the Bible says that one day you’re going to be judged by God on how your decisions affected other people.

Romans 14:12-13 says, “Each of us will give an account of himself to God. So don’t criticize each other anymore. Try instead to live in such a way that you will never make your brother stumble by letting him see you doing something he thinks is wrong” (TLB).

You may not like hearing this, but you are being watched—all the time. If you’re a parent, you should be especially aware that little eyes are always observing. You’ve got to be careful about what you say and do because you’re influencing not just your life but the next generation as well.

Show respect for those who serve and protect your community. If a police officer pulls you over for a ticket, even if you think they’re wrong, treat them with respect.

Don’t call in sick when you’re actually taking your family to the beach for the day.

Don’t bring supplies home that you stole from the office to use for personal benefit.

Don’t cheat on your taxes—and then brag about it in front of your kids.

Don’t watch the awful stuff that’s on TV and in the movies with your kids. Think about whether you should be watching it at all.

Mature people limit their freedom for the benefit of others. Not because they’re afraid of what other people think, but because they’re motivated by love. In situations where there is no clear right or wrong, you have to ask yourself, “How will my decision affect other people?”
