shifting currents

Blake doesn’t want a mate. No way. No how. And he certainly doesn’t want her camping on his land, floating down his stretch of river, or looking like she belongs in his bed.

But that’s exactly what he gets when he happens upon a curvy woman with shades of sunset hair named Leah. She’s on vacation and isn’t looking for any complications, especially in the form of a shifter or the possessive MINE signal he gives off.

So, what are two bears to do when they’ve convinced themselves they don’t want, much less need anyone else? They give in to the pull and mate, of course, but in sex only. No life commitment. No cubs. No changing the way they live: Separate and independent of each other.

Except when she leaves his mountain, Blake can’t get her off his mind and Leah can’t stop craving his particular brand of gruffness. Now, the one thing neither wanted, has come full circle, and is ready to bite them both.

This is a stand alone romance. It is the second book in the Vanished series (book one, Death Interrupted is also available on Amazon). EXCERPT:

“Wanna come in for a drink?”

He shook his head, never taking his gaze from hers.

“Why not?”

“I told you the truth earlier, Lalani. You test my control, and neither of us are ready to make that next step yet.”

He leaned forward and cupped her face. Slowly, he kissed her. This was not the same over the top passionate kiss from the other day. He nibbled at her lips, teasing her bottom lip before fully pressing his mouth against hers. Still, he took his time, before she felt the glide of his tongue against the seam of her lips. She opened willingly, wanting nothing more that to taste him. He was just the same as she remembered. Desire lanced through her veins, her blood pounding a primitive beat in her veins.

Needing more contact, she stepped closer, pressing her body into his as she slipped her hands around his waist. He shuddered and lifted his other hand to cup her face completely. It wasn’t enough. She wanted to feel his flesh against hers, to taste every inch of him…but he stepped back. They were both breathing heavily.

“I told you we needed time.”

Lalani had never been good at being denied pleasure, and she lashed out.

“Is this some kind of control thing with you?”

The moment she said it, she wished she hadn’t. She opened her mouth to apologize, but he stopped her by reaching up and rubbing his thumb against her lips.

“Not at all. I just want to make sure we both want it for the right reasons. And, as I told you, I don’t want some quick fuck. I want a long time with you in that bed, because I aim to take every second to enjoy.”

Bio

From an early age, Melissa loved to read. First, it was the books her mother read to her including her two favorites, Winnie the Pooh and the Beatrix Potter books. She cut her preteen teeth on Trixie Belden and read and reviewed To Kill a Mockingbird in middle school. It wasn’t until she was in college that she tried to write her first stories, which were full of angst and pain, and really not that fun to read or write. After trying several different genres, she found romance in a Linda Howard book.

Since the publication of her first book in 2004, Melissa has had close to sixty romances published. She writes in genres from historical suspense to modern day erotic romance to futuristics and paranormals. Included in those releases is the bestselling Harmless series. In 2011, Melissa branched out into self-publishing with A Little Harmless Submission and the popular military spinoff, Infatuation: A Little Harmless Military Romance. Along the way she has garnered an epic nomination, a multitude of reviewer’s recommended reads, over five Capa nods from TRS, thirteen nominations for AAD Bookies, and made the USA Today bestseller list in 2013 with The Santinis.

Since she spent her childhood as a military brat, Melissa swore never to marry military. But, as we all know, Fate has her way with mortals. After twenty years as an AF spouse, she and husband, a long with their brats, both human and canine, are now happy they get to pick where they live. She lives in the middle of wine and horse country in Virginia and shops for million dollar homes in Hawaii.

New Release: Amber is here!

Siren-meme

Amber: July

Mystic Zodiac, Book 7

She’s isn’t looking for happily ever after…

Amber Thompson is a Siren. A love-em and leave-em, let’s have some fun for a little while kind of woman who isn’t looking for a long romance, let alone a happily ever after. It just isn’t part of a Siren’s DNA. She loves her life in the small town of Summerset and loves working at the Mystics Only bar, Ecstasis D. Taking home a sexy as sin wolf for a night of fun shouldn’t change that.

He didn’t know he was looking for a change…

Andreas Stathos is a bored, business suit wearing, drowning in paperwork, wolf-shifter. His company, A Shift in Style, is doing great and he couldn’t be happier, except the spark he used to feel is missing and has turned into obligation. It doesn’t help matters that he can’t remember the last time he had a date or took the time to go wolf. At a friend’s urging, he gets out of town for the long weekend hoping to get in touch with his wolf and with a little luck, find a woman to heat up his nights.

Maybe together they’ll find something more.

As soon as he steps into the bar, Amber and Andreas both know their lives will be changed. But how much depends on one stubborn Siren and one wolf’s ability to convince her they have a future together.

Theo shrugged and tapped his knee with a rolled-up paper Andreas had failed to notice before. “I like giving her a hard time. She’s a good kid and gets riled up so easy. The wolf in me gets a kick out of it. It’s like watching prey attempt to fight back.”

“You’re too easily entertained. Just don’t run her off.” He looked at Theo thoughtfully. “Maybe you should bring something for her to apologize for your atrocious behavior one of these days.”

Theo shrugged and tapped the paper on his knee again. “I’ll think about it.”

Andreas’s gaze fell to the object his friend blatantly tried to draw his attention to. “What’s that?”

A mischievous grin lit Theo’s face. “I wondered if you were going to notice.”

“How could I not? It’s apparent you want me to ask about it. So give. What do you have there?”

Theo flicked it to Andreas. Unrolling it, he skimmed over the paper. It was a flyer for a Mystics-only bar on the outer edge of the city, one he’d never heard of.

“I know you’re bored out of your mind here. You’re antsy as fuck and driving the staff insane. It isn’t good to be cooped up in the city as much as you are. When was the last time you went on the hunt in the woods? Shook your fur out and roamed the green forest? Felt loam and dirt and the earth under your paws?”

Andreas grunted a reply. It had been too long. He actually couldn’t remember the last time he’d headed out into the woods. It could be why he was feeling restless lately. The absence of going fur would drive any man crazy if he let it.

“This doesn’t look anything like a forest or woods.”

“I know. It’s a bar.”

Andreas shot him a bland look. “I know that. I can read.”

“Then you can read what it says about being a place of gathering for Mystics—one and all. Sing, drink, and dance the night away with the Sirens of Ectasis D. Revel in the freedom to be who you really are.” Theo swung his arms out wide, and had an idiotic grin on his face.

“You want to go to a bar on a holiday weekend? Where does the going wolf come in? Am I supposed to shift in the middle of some rowdy place after a few drinks?”

“Yes, I want to go to a bar. No, I don’t expect you to shift right there. Do you think I’m a complete idiot?”

Andreas opened his mouth to answer but was cut off by Theo throwing his hand up.

“I have a cabin nearby so we can get drunk as skunks, those little sots. Then, when the buzz of alcohol wears off, you can get back in touch with the furry beast inside. What do you say?”

Andreas looked back down at the flyer, his eyes roving every inch. There were pictures of the interior. The crowded tables. The full dance floor. The bar with beautiful women manning it. His gaze snagged on one woman in particular, a fiery redhead wearing a snug tank top. She was laughing in the picture, her eyes lit up like a thousand flames. The wolf in him perked up, the image of the woman snagging his attention as well.

If she still worked there, then he needed to meet her. “Yeah,” he said, a grin beginning to curl the corner of his mouth. “This is exactly what I need.”

Theo jumped from his chair. “Hot damn!” He clapped his hands together in glee. “I have your bag packed and in the truck. Your housekeeper was an absolute doll helping grab your shit. Change out of that stuffy suit and let’s hit the road.”

EXCERPT:

After sweeping a glance across the spotless kitchen, Shiloh Sullivan sacked the trash with a tie, then a twist followed by knotting the plastic gathers at the top. Dragging the bag out of the can, she palmed the recycle-only can as well.

“Take those straight out, put them in the right cans—dark green for the trash and blue for the recycling.” Her mother didn’t look away from the stove or the fish she grilled.

“I have put trash out before, Mom.” Shiloh fisted the bag. “Twenty years of experience.”

“Don’t take that tone with me.” Her mother spun and pointed her spatula in her direction. “Take it out, put it in the right cans, then get back in here. Everyone has had quite enough of you lately, and they aren’t going to be particularly friendly at the moment.”

Blowing out a deep breath, Shiloh pursed her lips. She was twenty-four, not four. She had a college degree and plenty of options. Hell, she’d spent an entire half a year coordinating the most daring gamble of the century and been instrumental in forming a new pack—an unheard of sixth pack in the United States. And they were still going…none of those words passed her lips, however, not when her mother glared daggers at her. “Is there anything I can say that won’t piss you off right now?”

Delia paused as though considering her answer, before she shook her head. “No. Do what I told you to do.”

Not rolling her eyes, she hoisted the bag and can higher to show she had the task in hand then escaped from the hall of judgment known as the Sullivan kitchen. Being a human in a wolf pack had never been a picnic, but being a daughter in the Sullivan family made dominance battles look like a walk in the park.

When she jerked the door open with more force than she intended, she winced at the bang it made hitting the wall.

“Shiloh!” Her mother could encompass so many sins within one yell of her name.

“Sorry, Mom,” had become her mantra from childhood onward. Why did she make everything so difficult? Battles with her parents were par for the course, and she never imagined, after she’d shipped out for school, that she would find herself back in Willow Bend. Worse yet, be back to living in her parents’ home.

Walking down to the curb, she deposited the trash in the cans. She’d put them out earlier, thinking she would be a step ahead of her mother’s judgmental tones. Too bad she’d forgotten her mother wanted every scrap of garbage out when the cans were picked up.

Down the street, the Drakes worked in their yard. They paused at her appearance and the weight of their regard struck her. Two houses down, the Yorks were trotting in their wolf forms toward the woods,

but the two paused to glance at her. Disapproval gleamed in their gazes. Knowing better than to get in a stare off, she closed off the trash can, then emptied the recycling into the blue can.

Across the street, Mrs. Sexton walked out onto her porch and folded her arms. Disapproval radiated from her stance. The wolf owned the local grocer and made the best muffins and other sweets. Pissing her off took skill, so apparently Shiloh earned a gold medal. If looks could kill, she would be dead or at least on the ground writhing. The wolves wouldn’t lay a finger on her. She was human, and they were wolves. Mason gave her permission to return, but she was on thin ice with the Alpha. His orders wouldn’t be challenged, but it didn’t mean they planned to make her welcome.

The cold air coupled with the trash being taken care of meant she needed to go inside. “Shiloh!” her mother bellowed and Shiloh closed her eyes, tilted her head to face the sky and counted to twenty. The sooner she got her own place, the better. Living at home sucked.

Hands snaked around her waist and hit her ticklish spots even as she was lifted off the ground. A squeal of surprise burst out of her. “Matt!” She beat at his hands, but he had her, and the gentle squeezes sent laughter through her.

“Hey, gorgeous.” He pressed his cheek to hers and, thankfully, stopped setting off the racing sensation over her skin. “Long time no see?”

“Shiloh Maria Sullivan,” her mother snapped the words like fired bullets.

“Oh boy, you’re gonna get it.” The whispered chant from her best friend didn’t score her any points. Slapping his hands worked, however, and he pivoted both of them to face her mother. “Good evening, Mrs. Sullivan.” Matt’s butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth smile charmed more than one parent over the years. “Sorry about distracting Shiloh. I came over to invite her over for dinner.”

“She can’t.” Her mother’s lips compressed to a thin line. Though her hair had been pulled into a ponytail, gray wisps escaped. Gray hairs she attributed to Shiloh’s choices. “Shiloh, come inside, please.”

Matt didn’t release her. “Aww, Mrs. Sullivan. I know you’re upset, but my mom was really looking forward to seeing her.”

“I’ll call and apologize for her, then.” Delia Sullivan didn’t bend, not even for Matt’s charm. “Shiloh, go inside please.”

“Wow, Mommy Dearest is pissed.” His faint whisper had been meant for her ears.

Elbowing him, Shiloh pushed free and reclaimed the recycle bin. “You’re not helping,” she hissed.

“Call me.” He bumped her shoulder as she cut around him to jog up the path to her mom. When she didn’t respond, he raised his voice. “Call me, Shiloh. Call me. Call Me. Call me.”

Pausing, she swung around and stared at him. “I heard you the first time, Matt. I’m not deaf. I’ll call you after dinner.”

His face lit with a broad grin. “Can’t wait. I knew you missed me.”

Despite her irritation, she rolled her eyes and laughed. He was her best friend. Of course she’d missed him.

“Go away now, Matt.” Delia shooed him, then gave her a rather forceful nudge. “Get inside and stop embarrassing me.” The low-voiced utterance would carry. They’d lived around wolves long enough to respect their sharp hearing. Shiloh’s face heated. Half the street watched them…no, they watched her.

Door open, she slid inside, then held it for her mother. Her gaze collided with Matt’s and his cheerful face softened. He winked at her, then held his thumb and pinky toward his face. She nodded.

After pushing past her, Delia tugged her away and closed the door. “Look, I get that you don’t fully understand everything you did, Shiloh. You’re a grown woman, making passion-based decisions. Passion leads to foolish choices…like that sixth pack.”

“Mom…”

“Don’t Mom me. You made the choice to go against your family and the pack that shelters us. You made a crazy call, risked your life, your future, and our position…you don’t just walk back from that.” Anger cooled every word and, for a brief second, tears glimmered in her eyes. She took the recycle can from her hands, then nodded to the stairs. “So, do as I ask you to do and go wash for dinner.”

Chewing the inside of her lip and maybe some of her pride, she nodded. “Yes, ma’am.” Taking the stairs two at a time, she headed for the bathroom where she washed then ducked inside her bedroom. From there, she stole a peek from her window. Sure enough, Matt leaned against his car across the street.

He straightened, and his gaze met hers as though he’d been expecting her. In fast strides, he crossed the yard, climbed the tree and alighted on the ledge outside her window before she could even get the locks undone. “You said to call you, dumbass. If my mother catches you up here…”

“She won’t,” he said with a grin, crouching to peer inside. “Damn, with the My Little Pony Shi. You still keep that crap?”

“Ignore the girly frills since I have photos proving you played with ponies, too.” Had in fact given her several over the years for her birthday.

“Stalking them is not the same as playing.” He winked, then settled his arm as if he planned to hang out. “So, how you doing?”

“I’m doing great. Everyone is so happy to see me they can only stare. My mother can barely look at me, and I’m on probation. How much better can it get?”

Scratching his chin as though to give the matter some thought, Matt scrunched his face. “Break any mirrors lately?” At her snort, he grinned again. “What? You asked me. How much better it could get?”

Her mother yelled from downstairs, and she sighed. “I gotta go. She’s freaking out and, until she accepts that I’m not going to go rob a bank or something, she’s going to keep freaking out.”

“Okay. I’ll be around. Call me later. After they go to sleep, I’ll stage a jail break, and we can get a beer.”

“Oh man.” A drink sounded like heaven. “I don’t want to make her any madder.”

The sharp, hard syllables of her name reverberated from downstairs.

“Yeah, not thinking that’s possible.” Matt winced, the rubbed his ear. “Beer. You. Me. Let’s say midnight to make sure she’s really asleep.”

A slamming pot jerked through her. A motor down the street caught her attention. Dad was home. “You got it. Go, before they see you.”

“Later, babe.” Matt didn’t leap to the ground. Instead, he climbed higher, then over the house. Damn, he could move. Weird as it seemed, he’d gotten taller, or at least she thought so. Maybe she’d forgotten how tall he was. Retreating from her room, she made it to the first floor as her father came in from the garage.

“Hi, Dad.”

“Shiloh.” Chilly.

Damn, dinner would be fun. Maybe her brothers and sister would ignore her, too. She couldn’t wait.

EXCERPT:

Violet Clare slammed the flimsy wooden door to her cabin, then threw the lock. It was somewhere around an inch of steel away from comforting. Retreating while keeping her eyes trained on the only entry point, she strained to identify what she could do to avoid the inevitable if the animal wanted in. With only moonlight illuminating the cabin she tried to convince her heart to evac out of her throat and settle into a more subdued rhythm. Instead, it had a mind of its own, and continued on the Jesus, Mary and what the fuck gravy train it was currently joy riding atop.

It was out there. Chasing after her. She’d seen him. Not him. It. A shadow. Or a wolf. Both?

At least she thought it was a wolf. But wolves weren’t so damn big and they sure as hell weren’t born with red, almost glowing eyes…

Remove the almost part.

Emphasis on the what the fuck part.

“It’s just a dream,” she whispered, trying desperately to stop shaking. “Only another dream. And I’m going to wake up. I am.”

Shaking her head didn’t work. Squeezing her eyes shut did nothing, but freak her out more.

Beyond the cabin, in the shadows of the huge pine trees—no from the shadows of the trees a wolf had appeared. Watching her. It was like something out of a children’s book. Not moving a single muscle but she knew every fiber of his being was ready to…what?

Pounce. Attack. Seduce?

“Heheheheeeheheeee—” A high-pitched giggle, the love child of her frayed nerves and anticipation, bubbled out until she slapped a hand over her mouth.

Holy nut house, Batman! Her mother had told her for as long as she could remember to get her head out of the clouds. Fairytales weren’t real and the sooner she learned to live in the real world the better off she’d be. At twenty-five, she still couldn’t seem to get that one right.

If someone needed a random prediction of the future she couldn’t control? She was their girl. For as long as she could remember, she experienced foresight—visions which came true. Every. Single. Time. She’d been hiding her freaky ability since the first time she’d made the mistake of telling her mother something she knew was going to happen. When her predictions came true, her mom had been furious. Violet’s backside still stung when she thought about how angry her Mom had been. Scared even. So she’d tried to act the part. Perfect daughter. Perfect student. Perfect employee. Living a lie in the real world? It didn’t fit her so well. Never had.

But what if her dreams were true? She shook her head again as she continued to retreat from the door. Not possible. It’s just not possible. A wolf with red eyes appearing right outside a cabin she’d rented and only one other person knew she was at.

The travel agent promised her a remote, picturesque secluded getaway located in the middle of a protected forest in East Texas. Perfect for a couple weeks of rest and relaxation in the summer where nature walks abound and it was almost expected to sunbathe for hours—all

described in the brochure. Didn’t say anything about creatures stalking her in the forest or appearing out of thin fucking air.

“It’s beautiful there,” the travel agent told her as she’d booked Violet’s flights from where she lived in Destin, Florida. “It will be a trip to remember. Fresh air, sunshine, and you’ll be surrounded by wild flowers.”

“Wild flowers my ass,” Violet murmured as she finally hit the far wall. Being jarred out of her inner monologue, she ran clammy hands across the wood behind her. A weapon wasn’t forth coming along the wall as her heart got good and comfy on its seat on the holy shit train to freakoutville.

Violet slid down the wall and wrapped her arms over her knees seeing nothing but the pair of bright red eyes following her all the way to the cabin as she’d sprinted for the only structure within fifty miles. Out for a walk to get some fresh air, she’d caught a whole heck of a lot more nature than she’d planned on. God she had felt the gaze on her like a caress. Her body had responded like someone had licked her up the middle. Her breathing grew labored, her nipples pebbled and wetness coated the lips of her pussy preparing to be penetrated clear through to her soul. Adrenaline coursed through her veins as if she’d had someone seducing her for hours. A lover dedicated to showing her what it was going to feel like when she came so hard reality fell away and the only thing left was her desire staring at her with those red eyes. The same red eyes she’d been dreaming of for the entire twenty-five years she’d been breathing. She’d known them forever. Which is why she’d run. Terrified he was real. More terrified he wasn’t.

Always – Romancing the Wolf

Day 5 release glimpse with Rebecca Royce

Romancing the Wolf 3DAlways (Dragon Wars, Book 3)

Rebecca Royce

BLURB:

Robbie Owens has fought the dragons for seventeen years, leading his group of secret, elite werewolves. Tatyana Knox is a human in a world where humans are like unicorns—they simply don’t exist. But she is real and she is Robbie’s mate. If he can trust her, they will turn the tide of the war. But the clock is ticking and Tatyana’s time with Robbie is almost up.

BUY HERE: All Romance eBooks | Amazon | Barnes & Noble | iTunes | Kobo

EXCERPT:

Robbie Owens stared skyward to count many green beasts circling above. As of five minutes earlier, he’d seen five dragons. They circled but, from his current perspective, the flying nightmares looked more as if they were doing a figure eight. Whatever. The flying in a pattern motion meant his enemies looked for food.

He and his fellow werewolves were not going to be dinner, not if he had a say in how their day ended.

With the slightest click of his tongue, he caught his brother’s attention. Auggie, clad in wolf form, raised his ears to look at him. Three of his seven fellow elite unit members

were walking on four legs instead of two. The other four, Robbie included, stayed in their human forms. When sneaking into dragon territory to explore human ruins, they never knew exactly what they’d encounter. His team was the best of the best. If need be, the three wolves would destroy the five dragons while the rest of them busted into the caves.

Fuck, he hated dragons.

Homer squatted next to him. The young werewolf joined his team two years earlier. New recruits were few and far between these days. Seventeen years of war destroyed most werewolf soldiers before they gained enough experience to be considered elite—not to mention the severe rules to join a secret team.

In order to be a member of Robbie’s group, they agreed to let their families be informed of their death. They cut off all contact with anyone outside of the mission. The war became everything, the survival of werewolves paramount.

For over a decade, Robbie and Auggie’s family believed them dead. He pushed away the discomfort the thought brought—it really bugged him a lot lately—and turned his attention back to Homer.

The good they did outweighed the pain they caused. What was the point of letting their families think there was a chance they’d come home? On the off chance they won the war, they’d still not be fit to be around. All werewolves were affected by the never-ending battle, Robbie’s team more than most. He knew the dragons’ internal organs, how they fit together, their individual colors, as he’d been the first werewolf to gut one of the flying lizards.

“Yes. Into the caves. We take what we can carry on our backs. Ten minutes to study the cave walls and descriptions. No more. In and out. Away from the craphole cave by dinner time.”

If only these things ever went so easily. The last time they’d sought out the human caves, he’d lost two wolves to the fight. The dragons really didn’t want the werewolves in there, yet the flying monsters hadn’t burned the place to the ground.

The lack of destruction fascinated him as much as anything else. Why let the cave stay there untouched if the dragons were so adamant the wolves should not make it inside?

“Yep.” Homer nodded and scooted backwards to give the others instructions. Across the ravine, Auggie’s ears pushed downwards. His twin brother possessed the most sensitive ears of any wolf he’d ever known. Born a fighter, Auggie grew fiercer as he aged and the cerebral aspect to their special ops missions drove him crazy.

While his brother had zero interest in the caves, Robbie couldn’t spend enough time in them. Humans, though long gone, managed to leave them instructions on the dragons if only they could translate the words.

Of course, the paintings might mean jack shit and the whole escapade total crap.

“Go.” He turned left, leading his crew of four. Homer, David, Mike, and Chris followed him through the open space to the caves. The last bit of land was usually where they got caught on their way out. If the dragons missed them on the way in, they seemed to have a sixth sense in regard to their escape.

Seventeen years of war and they weren’t any closer to figuring out how not to die from a dragon attack. With the autumn wind blowing at him, he could smell the coming winter on the wind. Soon the land would freeze over, offering no relief to be found until the spring came…if they survived long enough to see the seasons change.

Since the moment the dragons appeared, burning the skies, Robbie’s way of life vanished along with his expectations. Some days he didn’t miss the way things were. Much. Shouldn’t seventeen years be enough to let old dreams go? He reached forty-four years old, not a child anymore. So the fuck what, he hadn’t gotten the future he wanted? Robbie led the most elite band of werewolf warriors alive. He was respected, listened to, and important to the war effort.

Watching sunsets over his own land while his kids ran on four feet through the forests would have probably bored him to death.

He entered the cave enough to let the others follow. Soon, all four of them hid inside. Darkness surrounded them in a veil of protection from the outside world. The midday sun shining brightly meant nothing in the permanent shadow. What had the humans done in there to make them paint the walls of a dark place?

“Torches.” He instructed, and his four comrades followed suit. They pulled their sticks out of their back pockets and whipped them in the air. Seconds later they all started to burn. A mechanism developed by his sister-in-law, Caitlyn’s, lab before the organization closed—the same institution which developed the idea to burn the dragon’s eggs.

His brothers hboth mated smart women. Too bad he’d never meet the ladies in person. He had, however, monitored them from a distance for some time. Getting Dougal back to Caitlyn had been one of his better maneuverings.

With brightness finally surrounding them, his soldiers started to collect books. They found too many to take with them all at once, so they’d need to make multiple trips. Should have been a fast mission, back and forth, yet war screwed with plans. A year passed since they’d been back to these caves.

Homer walked next to him. “These are amazing.”

Robbie regarded his friend. Homer’s help proved key in saving Robbie’s brother, Dougal, the year before. In a short period of time, he’d become integral to the team’s success. “I forgot you’d never been here before. Your first time, so to speak.”

“I’m a human cave virgin.” Homer touched a painting.

Robbie memorized the pictures over the years, yet he always thought the depictions held more to teach him. He must be missing something.

Someone painted the walls with images of humans battling dragons. Certain facts became obvious and his people learned valuable information from the pictorial representations. The werewolves hadn’t realized the dragons had a Queen until they’d seen these pictures. They’d also found depictions of the dragons disappearing and reappearing over and over again. All of those pictures made sense.

He found the next section confusing. The dragons were taken, or maybe lured, from the sky and eventually became forced into submission inside of some kind of mountain. He wished he knew how the humans managed such a feat.

Robbie would make figuring the depiction out his job to make sure he did whatever the humans had done before they’d been wiped out.

Of course, the pictures didn’t explain where the humans disappeared to hundreds of years before. Nothing except questions every time he came and once they left he couldn’t figure out the wording in the books. Their smartest people worked on translations, although there weren’t too many brilliant minds left in their shattered world.

“Are we good?” Homer looked at him. “You’ve been quiet. We’re all worried about you. Spending more and more time in your head. Auggie thinks you may need some time off. A week of leave.”

“To what? Go get my dick sucked?” He snickered although he knew Homer wouldn’t understand the joke. Years passed since he’d last gotten hard. At some point during the war, his body apparently gave up the idea of finding a mate. Everyone else lost their sexual drive when they met their mate. Male werewolves lost their constant need to fuck every female they saw after they met their mates, unable to perform for anyone except their significant other. Since he was sure he’d remember if he’d come across his, the fact that he lost all interest made no sense and just plain sucked. But what didn’t anymore?

“Spend some time elsewhere. Aren’t we supposed to periodically?”

“There are no rules for us, Homer. Haven’t you figured the truth out? We don’t exist anymore. We died. We can do whatever we want.”

As a teenager, I would hide in my room to read my favorite romance novels when I was supposed to be doing my homework. I hope, these days, that my parents think it was worth it.

I am the mother of three adorable boys and I am fortunate to be married to my best friend. We’ve just moved from New Jersey to Texas where I am learning to love Barbecue!

I am in love with science fiction, fantasy and the paranormal and try to use all these elements in my writing. I’ve been told I’m a little bloodthirsty so I hope that when you read my work you’ll enjoy the action-packed ride that always ends in romance. I love to write series because I love to see characters develop over time and it always makes me happy to see my favorite characters make guest appearances in other books. In my world anything is possible, anything can happen, and you should suspect that it will.

EXCERPT:

Sharp stabs punctured each breath Felicity forced in shallow bursts. The man smelled of oak and musk. He held her gently in a protective embrace she appreciated more than she should. Who was he? Had she found Redemption?

“Relax, I’ve got you.”

She battled the hazy fog. Why had she violated the land treaty and gone to Redemption? Oh yeah. The threat. Her soul ached, her heart too wary for the memories she’d locked away. Maybe someday she’d recall the atrocities she committed. For now, nothing good came from recalling what she did.

“The boy.” She collapsed against the softness at her head and forced her eyelids open despite the harsh sun tumbling from the sky. Mid-afternoon. A stabbing sensation resonated behind her eyes. Her entire side throbbed beneath a constant burn. “Save him. Please.”

The wolf—the man who’d forced her shift held her tighter against him. Full lips harshened into a grim expression which accentuated the square set of his jaw. Her gaze trekked upward and locked on the golden amber swirling in darkened chocolate. Thick, dark hair fell around the handsomest face she’d seen.

Massive shoulders, thick arms and an expansive chest tumbled into her field of vision when she collapsed against powerful thighs. Definitely a warrior. Thank goodness he hadn’t challenged her. Though she’d kicked the asses of many hulky men, she didn’t think such a battle would bode well for her today.

He kept her pinned in his embrace. A shadow spanned the sky above her. Crisp traces of sandalwood, citrus and evergreen assailed her nostrils. Newcomers.

Protect the child.

The strong wolf didn’t shift to a defensive stance. Struggling beneath his firm hold, she tugged and twisted as she blindly searched for a weapon. If she’d collapsed near her terrain—Outsider country—any stranger was a perceived threat until proven otherwise.

No. Her mind flashed memories. Walk. Burned paws. Hurt jaw. Dry terrain. She’d fled the Outlands days ago. Right?

“Calm. A white dragon healer is here to help. If you get too agitated Doc will kick my ass for scaring you.” The man’s lips turned into a slight smirk.

“I see why you insisted on tending the wounded.” The uncensored anger forced her wolf forward in an agitated growl. The approaching man halted and grinned. “She’s developed your bedside manner, Marek.”

Running with the Wolf – Romancing the Wolf

Day 4 release glimpse part 2: Gayle Donnelly

Romancing the Wolf 3DRunning with the Wolf (The Cascadia Wolves)

BLURB:

Running from an abusive ex-husband, Sydney Fuller faked her death, bought a new identity and hopped a bus North to Oregon; far away from her Louisiana roots. Two years later, now living as Abigail Mann and teaching Kindergarten in the small town of Sisters, she thought she could finally exhale and stop looking over her shoulder. But getting comfortable and trusting again

was something Abby was having a problem with. Especially when it came to the tall, dark, and brooding guardian of three of her students.

After recently gaining control of the Oregon territory, the Cascadia wolves needed to protect what was theirs. And as one of the strongest hunters known, Abram Keaton knew the pack children had become targets. Abram became their guardian; taking them to school, watching over them, and delivering the young back to their families. It was a massive responsibility considering the children belonged to his Alpha but as an added bonus, Abram began forging a relationship with the distant but alluring teacher. Chocolate brown hair, wide brown eyes, and a shyness that only made him to pursue her even stronger, Abram found he couldn’t stay away from Miss. Mann. But involving her in his world wasn’t smart and the more he watched her, the more he came to believe she was hiding from something. Or someone.

EXCERPT:

Abby walked through the front door and greeted her landlord. “Hey Miss Ruth. Can you believe this weather?”

“Abby, how many times do I have to tell you, this is nothing. Snow up here is like the sun where you’re from. It’s always around. School let out early?”

Abby unwrapped her scarf and shook it by the front door. She walked across the room and grabbed a sugar cookie off of the front counter. “Yup. I thought I would go take a nice hot bath and crawl in bed with a good book.”

“Now that sounds good to me too.”

Abby spun around only to see Abram standing in the doorway with all three kids with him. Why the hell was he here?

Mrs. Hayney walked out from behind the counter. “Abram Keaton! Don’t tell me you couldn’t make it through this? If anyone could, it would be you.”

He gave the sly older woman a wink. She knew exactly who and what Abram was and thank heaven for it. Ruth Hayney had provided years of support and much needed cover for the Cascadia pack and Alex had repaid her in kind. He and Abram had refurbished her home after

her husband passed a decade ago and also financed her purchase of the B&B so she could keep a high profile presence in the area. Everyone in town knew Ruth and when it came to the sightings of gigantic wolves and strange goings on, she was right there telling tall tales of mystical creatures and magic within the forest.

The older woman reached up and placed a chaste kiss on Abram’s cheek. “So good to see you.” She leaned down and brushed the snow from Sawyer’s head. “And you three…how big you’ve gotten. Why don’t you go and get a cookie from the counter and I’ll see what I can do about a room.”

The kids scampered across the room and Abram was stuck staring at Abby. “So, a bath and a book, huh? What do you read?”

Abby’s cheeks pinked. “Romance novels.”

Abram instantly hardened, picturing Abby lying in a tub full of bubbles, hair piled on top of her head, reading a sexy story. He walked toward her and rested his elbow on the counter. “Really?”

Abby blew out a raspberry. “Oh please, Abram. Seriously? I can see your mind churnin’ at this very moment.”

Abram laughed. “You can actually see that? Well, I’ll have to be more careful around you from now on. “

Abby laughed right back. A pretty tinkling laugh that had Abram’s stomach in a knot. Making her happy felt good. Especially after overhearing her with her friend Charlotte the other day. If Abby was dealing with a bad past relationship, he wanted to show her what a good one was really like.

“Well,” Abby began, “I was always told my family had some kind of sight. Remember, I’m from New Orleans. That’s where magic was born. Momma said the women in our family could always tell if someone was genuine or not. Hell, I failed that one like a champ.”

“Hell!” Marina yelled.

Both Abram and Abby looked down at the little princess. Her face covered in pink icing from the cookies and her hair damp and curly from the snow. The little mockingbird.

Abby closed her eyes in defeat. “I give up. No matter how much I say, how many words come out of my mouth, she will always choose to repeat the one word she’s not supposed to say. It’s a gift and a curse.”

“You have no idea.” Abram chuckled.

Silence enclosed them both as they just stared into each other’s eyes. Abram knew he was in trouble the first day he saw Abby but looking at her at that moment, he didn’t care any longer. There was something about the little Southern belle that intrigued him and he didn’t want to wait any longer to see what it felt like to touch her.

He slowly raised his hand and tucked her hair behind her ear. Running his finger across her cheek, her skin felt like warm silk. Abram watched as Abby’s eyelids fluttered and he couldn’t take it any longer. He slid his index finger under her chin and tipped her mouth up to his. Leaning down, he gently brushed his lips against hers. Soft, warm, and plump, he sucked her lower lip into his mouth and gently bit down. Her soft moan took him by surprise but not as much as feeling her hands on his chest. Her acceptance of his touch fueled his need for her even more.

Without thought, Abram dug his hands into her hair and deepened the kiss. His tongue slid inside her warm mouth and once again, a moan escaped her. All rational thought left his brain and he could feel his wolf jump to attention. The hair on the back of his neck stood on end and his muscles tightened under his skin. The wolf liked this. Liked her.

A biting pain suddenly engulfed his crotch and Abram fell to his knees. Breathing heavily and gripping what was left of his balls, he looked up to find Marina standing in front of him, her little hands balled into fists. Jesus Christ. She had punched him in the balls.

“You can’t do that to Miss Mann, Unka A. You not married to her. Momma says you have to be married to kiss so you can’t do that. Momma says anybody tries to kiss me like that, I have to hit them in the zipper.”

Wincing, Abram looked past the little princess and saw the other two standing behind her, nodding in agreement.

He closed his eyes, dropped his head, and tried to breathe through the pain. Alex’s kids were fucking lethal.

Day 4 glimpse of Virginia Nelson

Romancing the Wolf 3DOdd Mate ( The Odd Series)

Virginia Nelson

BLURB:

Now she’s back in town and drawn to his side. Can a wolf sworn to destroy all coyotes claim a coywolf mate or will he be forced to destroy the only girl he ever loved?

EXCERPT:

“Rise and shine, sleeping broody.” Trudy poked him with her foot. “Wake up. Wake up. Wake up. Wake up.”

One handed, he reached out and yanked her ankle out from underneath her, pleased when she landed on her ass with an oof. “Knock it off, Trudy,” he grumbled.

“Oh my goddess, I’m way too close to naked fuzz nuts.”

Trudy’s comment and her immediate and hurried rush to get away from him finally managed to make him open his eyes. He was naked—blissfully, wonderfully naked. He’d made love to Gretchen all night long, amazed by how all his imaginings of how they’d be together didn’t manage to live up to the reality. He felt sore in all the right places, happy, replete.

Rolling, he scanned the forest. Birds sang. Bugs buzzed. Leaves fluttered in the early afternoon breeze. The beauty of the scene around him jangled warning bells in his head.

No Gretchen.

Sitting up fast, he scented for her. She wasn’t anywhere nearby. Instead of bothering to put on clothes, he shifted fast. Trudy stood nearby, watching him instead of her surroundings. The girl was badass with the magic, but not so great at guarding.

Then again, he hadn’t bothered to tell her to stand watch.

His bones shifted, cracking and popping as they realigned in a rush of fur overtaking flesh. In moments, he stood on four feet, shaking off the last vestiges of humanity in favor of his beast.

“Ew,” she said. “That was super gross. Could you not?”

Rolling his eyes, he moved to her side, tugging her pant leg with his teeth to suggest she should follow him. She obeyed, only bitching a little. “So where are we off to? Because toward coffee would be good. I mean, I came looking for you when you weren’t at camp—hard to accomplish in the land of the tree mazes, but pretty easy with a quickie locator spell.”

Charly slammed to a halt, staring up at her.

“What? Coffee? Yeah, great idea, right? Want me to poof us to some Starbucks? Cuz, if that’s what you want…baby, I’m your gal.” Trudy stopped moving when he’d stopped, swatting at a random horsefly.

The scent trail from Gretchen ended abruptly at the creek, suggesting she’d walked in the water itself for a while—which could’ve been coincidence or an intentional way to hide where she’d gone. A locator spell would be rather handy. He continued to stare at the witch.

“I’m guessing you don’t want coffee. Although I don’t speak dog, I can tell you’re giving me a dirty look. What is it, Lassie? Is Timmy down a well?” Trudy smacked her legs, grinning at her own cleverness.

The Ardennes Curse – Romancing the Wolf

Day 3 glimpse part 2 from Saranna DeWylde

Romancing the Wolf 3DThe Ardennes Curse (Woolen Secret)

Saranna DeWylde

BLURB:

When Armand Rommulus killed Luc Ardennes in single combat before the Great Council, he was forced to leave his pack and his home—and claim his birthright as the Ardennes Alpha. But Armand isn’t like other wolves—he’s something deadlier. Armed with a new evolution, and the magic in his blood, he’s a force to be feared.

Victoria had no love for her sire, but what she does have is love for her people. She’s determined to free them from the curse forcing them to become mindless, slavering terrors every full moon. Even if it means taking their new Alpha to mate. She quickly discovers Armand is not only a good man, but a noble wolf.

Victoria must choose between the life of the Alpha she loves, or breaking the curse tormenting her pack.

EXCERPT:

They were monsters. They’d chained themselves up to keep from ravaging the countryside, hurting innocents, and exposing their secret. The whole town was beneath his feet, hiding in the dark, slaves to this darkness that infected them.

This curse was why the Council had let Luc Ardennes’ madness continue for so long.

Luc, with his laws and his deals and his paranoia, he’d kept them leashed.

Armand wouldn’t let his pack down. He’d be the Alpha they needed him to be.

“Submit,” he commanded again, this time drawing on the Alpha power resonating in his bones, and the Ardennes magic in his blood.

The beast in front of him shied away, head turned to the side in avoidance rather than submission. Her muzzle pulled back from her long, deadly razor teeth and she continued to snarl.

Power thrummed through him, the magic recognizing its own after so many years left to lie fallow in the earth and it surged, crackling along his fingertips, up his arms.

“Submit!” His very voice caused the earth to shudder and grass under the other wolf’s feet blackened and she yelped, but instead of submitting, she launched herself at him.

He was ready for her attack, and rolled easily.

But her teeth tore into the flesh of his neck and suddenly, that wasn’t magic or power in his blood. It was pure, unadulterated lust.

He hadn’t counted on that. Sure, he wanted her human form. But this wasn’t her, not really. This was a mindless, raving beast. Guilt was quick to follow the burn of want engulfing him. It was his job to protect her from all things. Himself included.

She bit him again and he floored her, got the beast on its stomach, arms locked behind its back. Goddess, but he was so hard and thick. The scent of musky female desire hit him hard and he looked down at her, the beast now looking slyly at him over her shoulder.

This darkness wasn’t mindless at all.

It calculated, it hunted, and most of all it hungered.

She squirmed against him, no longer fighting, but grinding her ass against his cock.

He was no pup to be led around by his dick. Even though she writhed against him, this wasn’t consent because Victoria wasn’t in the driver’s seat. He flipped her over so that she was on her back and blocked out the bliss that washed over him when she locked her thighs around his hips.

Armand called his power again, but this time, he didn’t hold back. He let it flow through him ebullient and free. “Victoria!”

The trees shook and bowed their old and creaking branches, the cottages’ foundations rattled, even the dark flower opened its blooms and offered up its meal in submission to the voice of the Ardennes Alpha.

And the beast beneath him took her human shape.

Fear was bright in her eyes, but he held her fast. “You’re safe.”

“So are you,” she gasped, a kind of wonder on her face. “You really are the Ardennes Alpha.”

A chorus of unnatural howls split the night—a choir from Hell to welcome him.
